Great job!

I mean, look at video game ratings.  Lots of games have player death in them.  It's in how you show it.

Make something super simple that you don't have to learn too much for.  Next game jam, you will see your progress.

lol The whole point of not getting the theme until the day it starts is to try and make sure everyone starts at the same time.

I don't like any of them :( Hopefully my brain will do it's thing and get some ideas in the next day :/

Thank you. I didn't realise that.

I didn't know how to until tonight.  On my game's page I clicked Analytics.  I could see that I had three ratings, but didn't realise I could click on it to see them.  You only see a rating out of five stars, not what they rated on each individual category.  And they can leave a comment too.

Is it possible to block someone on itch.io?  I just saw that one of my ratings is by a family member who is stalking me irl.  It doesn't matter that they game me 1 star really, cause I only have three ratings over all.  But it wasn't nice to see that, and I'd just rather not interact with them at all.  But I don't know itch.io well enough to know if you can do that.

Good job!  I made it up to level 3 :)

Hi.  The game looks beautiful and the sound is fitting for the theme.  I couldn't work out how to actually play, which is a shame, cause I think it was a really great idea.

Yep. I destroyed my game on the last day.  It got better!  But yeah.  I really, really thought I'd done my chances.  So now I've bumped up the git hub course on my to do list.  It won't be the next course that I do, but it will be done before the next game jam.

Thank you so much!  I didn't think anyone would play my game! You just made my year :)

My game froze in the WebGL browser, but not in Unity Editor, so I rebuilt it as an executable file.  I hope it works: https://tiarali.itch.io/dead-or-alive

(1 edit)

I finished my game!  I tested it and it was fine!  And now it has a game breaking bug.  And I don't know why.  Can I upload it as a download so people can see what I was trying to do or am I just done?
I know it's my fault for having my code in such a mess that I can't find the problem, but as the clock ticked I just went as hard as I could :/

Edit: Nevermind, I got it working as a pc build, just not a WebGL build (it always freezes at the same point, I don't know why).  So maybe it'll be ok.

Hi!  My teenage daughter is asking me questions about how to submit to the jam, but I haven't gotten that far yet.  I assume that you make a page for your game on itch, upload it there, then go to the game jam page and hit the button to add your submission.  Is that correct?  Thanks!

I had two days off (mostly cause I had to work those days, but I told myself I was allowing myself to 'recharge').  So now I've got a list of things to do today. Hoping to upload tomorrow.  Just need to motivate myself to get started.

I've seen others posting that we should just delete the assets from the source files, and instead put in a txt doc that lists the resources and where they came from.

They mentioned Scratch as a possibility in one of the livestreams.  I don't know much about Scratch (my kids have used it, but I haven't) so I don't know if you can upload a WebGL or if you'd have to make it available to download, but as far as I know it's definitely possible.  You have to submit your "source" which is your actual code as well.  But yeah, I vote go for it :)

They did say if you've got 60 collaborators, they might raise an eyebrow, but I doubt you're in that camp :)

Day 3 Progress.  Anyone who's done the 2D course will see where I got my inspiration, lol.

I don't know, but I do know there will be winners in lots of different categories (story, theme, sound, music, aesthetic etc.).  So there will be more than one winner.

Hey.  This is my first major game jam.  I think I'm doing ok, but I know I'm focusing mostly on stuff I've done on tutorials before, and I'm worried about the few new features that I have yet to implement where I'm going to have to apply my knowledge to a new situation :/  So it could all come crashing down.

My big problem seems to be staying focused.  On Saturday I did so well!  I breezed through it.  Yesterday I needed a bit of a break.  Today I just don't wanna.  But I work tomorrow, so I feel like I need to do as much today as I can.  Anyone got any ideas on how to stay focused and motivated when you have a close deadline?  I think it's particularly hard for me because I don't have a realistic idea of how long different things will take to implement yet.  So I don't know if I need to allow extra time for the menu screens or the audio yet.  So it looks like I've got a pretty good start (set up two basic levels of a simple platform game - I've just completed the 2D course).  But I don't know how to pace myself.

So yeah.  Surely I'm not the only one struggling?

In the livestream where they announced the theme, they actually got all the viewers to help with brainstorming.  So if you go watch the last ten minutes of that you should get quite a few ideas :)

Paid tools are allowed.  It's the assets (graphics, sound effects, etc.) that need to be freely available.

I assumed that it's like NaNoWriMo.  You 'win' if you finish and upload a submission.  Quality, feedback etc are bonuses.

I just want to add my weight behind Juggler's question.  I have no idea what it means by including source.  Is it enough to put a link to the actual unity project (not the exe) on my dropbox so that others can access it?

I have a kid who's seriously considering making a game in Scratch just so she can join in with her older family members.  If you make a submission, you should be proud.

The post gives 12-14th March to give submissions, but also says one week. So that might be a bit confusing.

Never mind, I worked it out.  Looking forward to the release of the full game :)

Hi.  I've had this game on my steam wishlist for ages, and just found out that you can download the alpha version, which is awesome.
I'm just having trouble with some of the gameplay aspects.
Mining is referenced in the tutorial, but I can't work out where to go to mine.
I've managed to kill zombies and research them/mulch them.  But how do you get live zombies?  And what is the point of researching them?  Is it just to give you more information about them?
Thanks.
