Hello people, I'm Damon and I'm looking for a decently experienced artist that I can collab and create a fun little game with!
I am a programmer myself, I've dabbled in doing art for games but it usually ends in me burning out very quickly. While I enjoy building the codebase for a bunch of fun and complex mechanics, I struggle to maintain motivation when creating actual content (sprites, story, levels). So I'm looking for someone to take care of all of that and let me focus on the part that I love most about game dev, which is writing code.
We would collaborate on the game as a whole, but I'm fine giving away most creative control to the other person, as long as I can still ocassionally express my ideas, and their style doesn't differ too much from my own vision. I want them to get implicated in the game dev process and come with their own ideas and vision. Also they'd preferably need to be on Europe time, although my sleep schedule is pretty fucky these days.
As for what games I'd like to develop, I'm currently thinking of some chill 2D game with building and light roguelike mechanics. Think of something like Forager, but possibly with a sci-fi theme. But of course, none of that is set in stone, I'd like to develop any sort of game that feels fun to play and isn't just 'bland' (I'm all for LGBT characters, themes of mental illness, weird satisfying mechanics, anything that doesn't scream basic). Also the scope should be somewhat small, I'd rather do a bunch of fun games with unique experiences than some expansive open-world rpg bullshit.
Personally I enjoy playing a lot of JRPGs, Soulslikes, linear action games, but I'm not looking to make anything of that scope right now.
And in case it matters, I am working in the Bevy game engine and that is non-negotiable. I hate OOP with a passion so I tend to stay away from stuff like Unity and Godot. Bevy is an open-source ECS engine written in Rust which I love. No bullshit, no built-in editor, just clean and modular code.
If any of that sounds interesting, feel free to contact me on discord ("thedamon.") so we can discuss more!
