Love the PS1 low-poly aesthetic, how precise the boat’s movement is, and especially how whatever’s going wrong is up to the player’s imagination.

Very creative use of my name. Kept me on my toes with the need to multitask. The left/right and up/down switches look the same, though, so it was hard to tell them apart. I also can’t slide across walls, though that was probably intentional.

I noticed the game gets slower if you die, and it was useful, but I do think it should’ve just been an option you can toggle.

(also you accidentally exported a debug build)

The first submission ended up being mine, Beaten Waters

It’s out but I don’t want to submit it unless I know for sure

Beaten Waters

There is indeed no text whatsoever in these segments. The game will be out soon, but it likely won’t qualify.

noodlesnook has dropped out, so his slot is open to any new participants (though there’s not much time left).

Hi,

I’m working on another tiny game (for my jam) that should easily be completable in under 30 minutes. It follows a narrative and has text at the beginning and end, but the bulk of the game is focused on exploration via direct character control. Based on this description, would it still be eligible for the IF showcase?

This is a Youtube Poop in book form and I absolutely love it

Everyone who submits a different name should be on a different team

Sorry, please pick a new name (also adding a statement that names have to be meaningful)

I think I actually have a cartridge… I know I’m not supposed to smoke it, but what’s the worst that c

And it’s live. Happy naming.

Flip and Flop

Love how the actual gameplay of this non-game is vague enough to be up to imagination. Page 11 inexplicably being missing is the kicker for me

Addendums:

  1. I will be an entrant in the jam just like any other.

  2. Decided to delay the games period by a week (from 12/01-12/14 to 12/08-12/21). The names period will still begin on Monday as scheduled and gain that extra week.

I’m hosting my first game jam: the Name Jam! This will be a pretty experimental jam with a process unlike any other: make a game name, then make a game based on someone else’s name.

When the itch.io page goes live on Monday, the names period will begin. Each entrant will make up a name for a video game and submit it to the Community tab. When the games period begins, I’ll randomly assign each entrant to a name they didn’t submit, and they have to make a game based on it.

It’ll be unranked, casual, and hopefully really fun. Whether you’re a beginner or an expert, if this sounds like something you’ll enjoy, consider joining starting on Monday. I’ll see you there.

I knew. I KNEW it was coming and it still caught me off guard

Quoting the rules: “There is no limit to the amount of entries you can submit. Share everything you made!”

And the Tortoise Won

The way the title screen changes after you finish??? I’m always glad to get byte-sized games like this

This is a one-level demo for Lead Kid, my upcoming fast precision platformer on the Game Boy. Planning for the full game to release in 2025 and include 6 levels and multiple save files. It’s open source, so please let me know of any issues, and I hope you enjoy.

Fun little game with tight, satisfying controls, great music, and a “less is more” design philosophy that I always love to see

Good work. Became insanely addictive as soon as I figured it out

As always, great work. Haunting, thrilling, mysterious, and shows how limited hardware can actually enhance an experience

This might genuinely be my favorite game of the year so far

Really unique and fun!

Bit Bang

(5 edits)

I just released my first real game, Bit Bang. It’s a small solo-developed Game Boy homebrew puzzle game. The goal is to make the requested numbers in binary with simple operations. It features 64 (|……) puzzles and an Assist Mode for people who need it, and it’s open source. Feedback is appreciated.

As a fan of the whole pirate aesthetic and rhythm games, this is a fun demo, and a nice twist on an adventure RPG. The concept is inventive, the dialogue is witty, and the mechanics are taught in a way that feels natural. Looking forward to the full game.

If I had one criticism, the in-game font is really hard to read. This is a 160x144 screen, after all. The splash screen has a more readable font, so please consider at least having an option to switch to that one.

And I’ve never used GB Studio before, so I don’t know how hard these are to implement, but I also encourage QOL improvements like diagonal movement and using stairs from any side.
