Ha! I'm an idiot. Thanks.

So far I've not needed to jump on the skulls and I thought they were scenery.

Congrats Roger and Sisko. Great game.

I can't see how to pass this screen, and my way back is blocked. Can I make sure that this jump is possible?

I never realised pressing up & jump had that effect. Cheers!

Have you played level 4 through since release? I really do think that the jump at the bottom is not possible and it's a bug.

Nice ladder fix in the update by the way :)

Fun game. Hard! On level 4 it looks impossible to collect the block at the bottom. The solid platform above the conveyor can't allow a jump high enough as far as I can see. Am I missing a trick?

Fantastic game. What are the cyan baddies that bounce across the screen? And are the blue ones crop spraying planes?

Small bug - if you end up with less than a pound, there's no viable input option for the next bet.

(I was about to go all in and put my remaining 50p on the 7-1 and it wouldn't let me!)

Btw I'll be reviewing this for the next issue of Break Space magazine. Is the available version the final release or are there any updates in the pipeline?

RANDOMIZE fixes what the random number sequence that RND uses will be. If you RANDOMIZE a number more than zero, it sets the same (for that number) series  of 'random' numbers every time. If you RANDOMIZE 0 (or just RANDOMIZE) it sets a different series every time based on the spectrum's clock. If you try the following  with RANDOMIZE number versus RANDOMIZE you'll see the difference. The former will give the same sequence every time you RUN, the latter will be different every time.

10 RANDOMIZE 50

20 FOR A=1 TO 10: PRINT RND: NEXT A

Yeah the loading POKEs can make a BASIC game go funny. It took me a few tries! In the TAP below, check out the first loader, which I restructured to just one line. The loading message POKE is 23739,111. Then in your main game, check line 3. I moved your POKEs there, and a PAUSE 0 so it waits for a keypress for all the people using turbo loaders.

The CLEAR is to reset the system variables, because the POKE 23739 can mess things up sometimes.

I put RANDOMIZE there too, because it looks like you get the same game every time in the original version.

If that link doesn't work, then I could upload it at the Spectrumcomputing forum, but you'd need to join.

Love this. Great backstory too. @bedroom coder, it's possible to have the loading screen not be obscured by the following load message. I've put a TAP together demonstrating this, and a randomise idea. Are you interested in seeing it?

Finished. Great stuff and looking forward to part 3.

BTW the colours of the mechanism are wrong in the solution, and I can't unzip the  'Old Envelope' file. I get a pop up for all 3 files inside and it won't do them.

Thanks!

Thanks for the reply and the games Luis! I went on quite a journey with 'Echoes' for about a fortnight :)

I did wonder in my review about the text area, since most GAC games do obey the same screen layout as your games. I checked before writing and saw several GAC games that allow much larger text areas, e.g. 'Play It Again Sam', 'Not The Lord Of The Rings', 'Pete Bog,' and 'Murder, Mystery'.

I'm not as familiar with GAC as you. Are these examples unusual extensions of the regular engine?

If I've made a mistake I can clarify in the next issue.

Cheers

Dave

PS - it's also a proud member of the 'Maoi cameo' group in ZXDB

Ah - the part 2 walkthrough is actually a .docx, so if you rename the file to 'ECHOES 2 - SAHARA SOLUTION.docx' it's readble. I reached the very last stage without it at least, but I missed an object very early on in the game and had to go all the way back

Brilliant game (games!). I'm stuck on part II, and the walkthrough is corrupt. Any chance you could upload a working PDF?

Great game! I really struggled initially but now I've got into it. Can I ask what do you mean by "This is the first true result of our collaboration on 'The Most Hated in Videogames'?

Thanks. I hope you do translate it - you have at least one player here  and there will be more :)

Hi DaRe, great game. When will the next 'day' of the adventure be available

Thanks for the game. My best so far is 51 items, with 4:34 left. Can I ask what your best is Dvader?

Is it definitely possible to complete level 26?

Gracias por el brillante juego!

I'm stuck on level 26. How do I reach the 2 stars at the top right?

Small bug - when you return to the play menu, the "1 - V CPU" doesn't show.

It'd be good to be able to see all the types of card in the instructions.

Plays well though. Ta for the game.

That's still fantastic work!

Superb game Tartesso! Can I ask if the levels are your own design, or a standard template (as for example, a lot of Sokoban games).

Also a couple of bugs: "PULL LEVER" is interpreted as "QUIT GAME", and "SEARCH" seems to be interpreted as "SHOOT".

Thanks for the cool game DaRe. I completed it today. Can I ask how you did the images?

Hi Ed, are you about and still taking entries? Hope things are okay. Let us know if you need any help.

Hi Ruben, thanks for the game. Is it made with a tool, like MK1 or ZXGameMaker? Also - I notice there is an AY player and music at the end of the cassette, but the game does not load them. Is the music supposed to be part of the game? Ta. Dave

Cute game! Is there a bug in the demo? It starts off with 0 moves (which overclocks to 255), and level 2 only has 1 move

Strange bug - on level 7, "BOTTY" (or anything OTTY) makes it return to BASIC!

Got it. Thanks! A nice extra supplement to my daily Wordle fix.

Hi, I've just paid for the game and it says nothing to download yet. How do I access it please?

I just swung by for this, but I can happily wait another week :) I really enjoyed the others in the series.

Great game. I'm stuck on level 2 - link because of spoilers

Am I on the right track?

Thanks for this. It's a good read and I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of it. I spotted a few little bugs:

'self- ritical' missing the c; 'well- efined' missing the d;

and you can burn the note, and still select burn the note afterwards.

There were a few little quirks in the text, nothing major, but if you want any help proof reading let me know :–)

@Frankster - we've been playing this over on the SC forum. Any chance you could give us a bit of background on this - from original coding, attempted release (?), to recovery 37 years later?

Must be the number of turns. I just did a quick run through and scored the full 250. I love that the game starts with the classic "GET LAMP" by the way...

Great find, and a great game this, classic oldschool, and a very timely release regarding the coronation! I just completed it with 240/250. Thanks for the game. Now to get back to it and see where those 10 points went...
