Summary

Pilot a lone wolf, armed with a laser, and shoot up many types of enemies that are trying to take you down! Collect various power-ups to give you an edge in space! From stackable shield levels to obtaining missiles and the God's Wish superweapon!

Work your way to the head henchman who gave the order to massacre your entire platoon! It won't be an easy feat! Buckle up, conserve your ammo and outwit your opponents with fluid movement, or else you're going bye-bye.

I finally made a game! It's definitely a milestone for me and many more to come!

https://sleepingdaemon.itch.io/flower-snatcher

Flower Snatcher is a 2D survial game. You're a robot stealing flowers from ugly looking weed plants. They will follow you and eat you from all corners of the game lol. They are mad but not mad? They smile at you while chasing you to death.

This is a game jam game for the Harvest Mouse Jam. It was an experience for sure.

My Highest score so far!

Street Conference, thank you!

I want to thank the hosts of this game jam and all the other participants who have shared their game on discord as well as complimented on my updates! Without you guys, I probably wouldn't have finished this :)

This all started out with a simple idea and through out development, I made many changed that I wish I had the time to plan before starting. The architecture of this game underneath is a mess and because of this game jam experience, I learned so much that I will take this experience and learn from my mistakes.

So here are some of the updates I have shared on the discord channel.

Tile set complete

Until the next one! :)

Thank you, Cody!

So I did quite a lot today since I had a day off from work.  I finished up most of the mechanics. I also created a tile set for the ground as well as some animations for the player and the flowers.

After testing and playing around, my wife and I felt that the game needs something else to make it interesting. Just running around grabbing flowers is kinda not fun after a few minutes.

Well here are the screens I shared on the discord channel.

Hello everyone! I am making a simple game of going around collecting different types of flowers and accumulating as many points you can with 3 lives. I am quite new to programming in Unity so I figured I would start small and have fun!

So here's a WIP 1 I posted yesterday on the discord channel.

Here's WIP 2 I posted today on the discord channel.

The mechanics are almost done. I need to add the point and lives mechanics either later today or tomorrow. I will probably start on the art tomorrow as well so I am excited for that.

Hello! I have been pixeling on and off for over a year now, and I'm eager to gain more experience with a team, which is why I am here to hopefully turn that around. You can see my work here http://www.sleepingdaemon.com/pixelart

You can also see a prototype of a game I have been working on and off on my own which shows pretty much what I can do thus far.

The team must have some experience with game development. I take this serious and I want to learn. I hope to find a team that shares the same values.

I am also available for a game jam team to gain more experience.

For serious projects, we can discuss about revshare or a form of pay.

If there's no project, perhaps together we can come up with one from scratch.

DM me with some info about the team and project. Or DM me in discord "Sleeping Daemon#2566"

Thank you, Laouro!

Thanks J, this has really been a good experience. Might not finish this on time but its been fun non the less.

Here's a wip of how the game might look. Art by Sleeping Daemoness.

Good morning, everyone :) I worked on a few entry levels this morning that will gradually increase difficulty. My wife and I have discovered that we might want to make the gameplay  different from what we had originally planned, but things happen for a reason!

So at this current state, we plan on having the player move something precious to the final goal which is an exit. The yellow box indicating the "something precious" and the green box indicating the goal which is the "exit" to the next level.

I need to work on:

  1. having a timer
  2. a reset button for when you screw up (especially for the later levels as difficulty increases)
  3. a simple menu
  4. a permanent title

My wife will work on the art soon.

Here's another update. This time around, we can now push blocks! I now need to make it so that we can only push it once in a direction.

Thank you, Wudgeous!

This is off to a good start, Snuti! Kudo's with the 3d and the concept :) It looks really good.

Here's another update. This time I have placed walls around the player indicated by the grey color. The blue block will be the object that will move. I haven't figured out how to move the object yet... but I hope to do so today :)

Thank you, Snuti! It is awesome to know that there are other couples working together as a team to create a game for this game jam :) My wife thought of this idea so I give her all the credit haha. My wife and I don't have a clue how to make puzzles as well so this will definitely be a learning curve for us.

We are using Gamemaker Studio 2.

Good luck to you guys as well!

So here's the inputs for the player movement with collision checking. I am using simple sprite shapes that will eventually be replaced with finished sprites from my wife.

I have also added depth to the player and block object.

Next step for me is to work on moving the blocks once.

Hello everyone, so this is pretty exciting! My wife, and I had never Jam'ed before. This is our first and we hope to learn a lot from this!

Our Team consist of my wife (Sleeping Daemoness) and I. I'll be the programmer for this Jam and she'll be creating the art.  Everything else we"ll work together.

The idea is to create a top-down puzzle game with the player moving blocks to get to the treasure. The blocks can only be moved once so it'll be tricky as one progresses. Once the player opens the treasure, a key is received which will unlock the door to the next level.

We want to make this as simple as possible since we are fairly new to game development. We do not want to over complicate things so we will try out best to keep in mind that simplicity is one of our core pillars, as well as learning and having fun at the same time.

Thank you for reading!

Gabriel

1. Hi there! What's your name? Want to introduce yourself?

Hello everyone, my name is Gabriel.

2. Did you participate in the last jam we held? If so, what do you plan on doing better this time? If not, what's your reason for joining?

I did not attend last year's event. I started my game development journey about 7 months ago. It's been more about learning than anything so I am here to see what my wife and I can come up with in 2 weeks for our first jam.

3. What games are your favorites? Did any of them inspire you, or made you want to make your own?

Too many to decide but one that impacted me the most I'd say Halo.

4. Do you have experience with game development? What did you do/with what engine?

Roughly about 7 months of game dev'ing but it's mostly been learning the ropes. Currently using GameMaker.

5. Tell us about something you're passionate about!

Art! Art has been a part of my whole life since I was 4 years old.

6. What are your goals for this game jam?

To learn and build confidence needed to create more games.
