Positive feedback:

  • Love how you integrated a tutorial on the start page.
  • Instructions were very simple and clear.
  • I love the end-game page. Great feedback and encouragement to do better. Very motivating tactic!
  • I really like the graphics too. Very simple but perfect for the game!
  • It was very challenging! Took me a while to figure out that last level.

Constructive feedback

  • I don't have a ton of feedback, cause I really like this game. I think just future iterations, having more levels and more challenges would be a great addition. 

Positive feedback:

  •  Graphics are so fun! Love how the lantern looks like it is glowing, especially.
  • I like the theme at night and the character, pickups, and enemies fit together so well
  • The moth is super cute and i like how the bats mouths seem to be chomping ? Nice effect!
  • Overall, very magical and fun game.

Constructive feedback

  • I noticed that your scrolling background would occasionally reset. I also did a scrolling background and I edited it in photoshop to have similar graphics on the left and right to try to make it seamless. There may be other strategies. Still a great background! 
  • For future iterations, it would be fun for the moth to have a spritesheet so that when you hit the space bar, its wings do flap to move it around.

Positive feedback:

  • I thought it was a little slow at first, but then quickly realized it was like a puzzle game. Fun!!
  • It is such a fun challenge when the snake's tail gets longer!
  • Great strategy game!
  • Love the start page with the logo!

Constructive feedback

  • It took me a second to figure out that I was the snake (I thought it was the enemy!)
  • As a science nerd, it would be cool if the apples were mice, frogs, or birds. If it's too morbid for folks, I think having a fun narrative that gives some context to eating the apples would be a good addition.
  • I think after you play for a few minutes, or maybe grab a certain amount of apples, the snake can start moving a tad faster for more challenge 

Positive feedback:

  • Love the characters! And the fact I got to choose one.
  • Love the character narratives!
  • Navigation and shooting are intuitive
  • Jumping is responsive and as expected
  • The height of the jump is just high enough to hit the platform, so it made it a little suspenseful, wondering if I was going to make it 

Constructive feedback

  • I wish the platform were a little slower or the character a little faster so I could catch a platform I wanted to jump on
  • For the next iteration, it would be fun to have a limit on the firepower, and maybe have an additional pickup for ammo

Positive feedback:

  • Navigation and shooting are very intuitive
  • Challenging! Once I figured out how to aim, the challenge was engaging!
  • I really wanted to play this longer to "win" but I wasn't very good at it. 

Constructive feedback

  • It took me a second to figure out how to aim
  • I wasn't sure if the bandit was a good guy or bad guy at first
  • Do you have to hit the bandit a few times to kill it? I feel like I hit is a few times and it still killed me. lol

I love this concept!! I got my undergrad degree in Marine Biology, so I'm a fan of stream ecology.  AND, as a former science teacher, my brain was in overdrive with all the educational components you could add to what you already have that is so engaging! Great job and thank you so much for participating! 

I highlighted the game jam on the first and last slides of my talk so I hope folks visited and gave you all some additional love!

Kirby!! Thank you so much for joining this jam! I love Dr. Bear!! This was a super cute game. I immediately thought of ways you could introduce types of fractures your next iteration. I see Dr. Bear going places. :D

Love, love, love your game!! I especially like how I learned something new about these floating islands. As a former science teacher, it's rare for me to hear something that I haven't heard before! My talk at ECGC was well attended and I encouraged everyone to visit the game jam and look at the games. You all were the first and last page of my talk. :) Thank you so much for participating!

Hi!

I'd love it if game developers could have easy access to subject matter experts if they wanted to receive constructive feedback on their games. This could be in a variety of subjects like health-related content, primary and secondary school curricula, DEI, etc. Having a pool of experts who would be willing to put in some time to help enrich our games is golden! They would need to be vetted somehow, but this would be amazing.

Hi Beth! I'm so glad you like the idea!! Feel free to share far and wide. I can also extend the date. My presentation isn't until April 20th, but I may create a jam with a longer duration afterward to continue the idea. :)
