I managed to get to floor 19! I really enjoyed the few runs I did. The graphics are supremely charming. I think the inventory management was particularly good. I found myself using the oil cans pretty much as soon as I found them, and tried to save my inventory space for restorative items. I was shocked when an upgrade I purchased took up an inventory slot! This definitely made me think twice about whether or not I would purchase other items I came across.

I really enjoyed this entry! The atmosphere was beautiful. I was really struck by the polish of the titlescreen, and how the graphics and music seemed to support the ethereal stillness of moving around the map. Congratulations!

Hi everyone!
Congratulations to everyone who took part. I failed miserably at keeping a daily devlog during the challenge, so now that the dust has settled I wrote a long-form postmortem on the development of Grim Rejoiner that mainly reflects on the role of a design doc in a 7DRL, as well as some of the specific approaches taken during the challenge. I hope you find it interesting!

A postmortem for a morbid game

Thanks,
Seilburg

This is a beautifully polished and slick entry! The dice pool movement system is an interesting idea, and I think the the keep die ability is particular engaging in forming strategies.

I really liked the visual style, even though it perhaps wasn't obvious what the symbols meant. A simple splash-screen the a legend would take care of that.

Lastly, I'd be very interested to see some more traditional roguelike gameplay tropes integrated into the core of the gameplay. I kept finding myself wondering 'what would interacting with a trap, or locked door feel like' as I was playing.

Congratulations on your success! I hope you are very proud of your achievement!

Amici, Romans...!

Voxelate and I, Seilburg, are delighted to announce our entry for the 2021 7DRL contest:

Portlligat
A Dalí-esque post-apocalyptic survival-exploration roguelike

In Portllegat you can expect to:
• Delve into a psychoanalytic worldscape influenced by the sights, colours, and themes of (in)famous artist Salvador Dalí;
• Craft items out of junk, or magical scraps of godtech, you know, whichever;
• Spend time running and hiding from things you don't understand;
• Refute fantasy or lose yourself to your hidden desires;
• Progress your character by levelling-up your skills as you use them;
• Wander the wilderness looking at funny shaped rocks;
• Die;
and explore!

And you will be able to save your game! In a 7DRL. It is possible.

This game unintentionally focuses on some of the themes we hoped to explore in Slumber, our 2020 entry, but sadly were unable to focus on. We will be devblogging our progress on Portlligat's game page, so I hope you can check it out! Happy rogue-ing!
