Sorry for the delay. I have ideas for what I want to do next and have tagged this release as version as v0.1 so I can keep going, but I am not exactly sure on the time table right now.

If you copy the "MonoBleedingEdge" folder from "Our Summer Stand" into "Camarena Game Jam" the program will start, but not work. Or at least not well. Not really sure what it is supposed to do. It does not appear responsive and is not well optimized. Do at your own risk moment I guess.

YBtheS do you have the mono redistributeables for your game? If so could you please share those?

Is there a way to know what all items it takes to make the different drinks and whether or not I can fill an order without wasting product trying to fill orders. I have been having a lot of problems with the resource management part of this game.

Here is a bit more detail on some of those points. Still trying not to spoil the game for anyone. (Go play and vote before reading this, if you haven't already. >.> )

  • The stars are all or nothing. So you don't make good progress towards unlocking the other characters until you have mastered the difficulty of the game. This makes for a poor engagement curve.
  • Small rocks is the only wave in the game with no stars, instead it has more complicated patterns that ask you to look ahead and plan your route. This provides a difficult but rewarding challenge. I think if you take a good look at how your game is using stars you will find they currently take away a lot from the game.
  • Wave 4 is hype... the first few times. Unfortunately, the star placement is a distraction (try later in the wave) and the wave gets long and easy after the first few times. Still it offers something that no other part of the game does. (Also, your character choice has some amusing effects on the context of wave 4. Not saying I would do anything about it, just that it is weird how much one character can change the interpretation of the story.)
  • Encouraging risky choices: Placing collectables in a line leading up to an obstacle to encourage the player to wait until the last second to change lanes. Splitting the path into two routes one easier one more rewarding and letting the player choose which half they want. Offering power-ups or special paths that offer a huge benefit, but sometimes placing them in hard to get to places. Just to name a few I have seen. The advantage to this is it lets players adjust the difficulty of the game themselves while rewarding them for turning up the difficulty. This makes the same level fun for multiple skill levels.
  • Yes, that would help it be more re-playable, but you have to keep in mind the type of experience you are trying to make. It is okay for a game to end. Not all runners need to be endless you know. That said the thing I see in games that have A LOT of replay value is that they don't change the way they interact with me, I change the way I interact with them.

I hope that helps.

  • The game appears to have 3 lanes. So it took me a while to realize that the game has 5 (and not that the game has gradual transitions).
  • For whatever reason I did not get to keep any of my stars unless I cleared all of the waves (Firefox). So at first I thought it was impossible to unlock the other characters.
  • Waves 2 and 4 of the four wave set are my favorite (but wave 4 should probably be faster).
  • The game could probably use a mechanic to encourage risky choices.
    Overall I liked the game, but towards the end of 100%ing it seemed to lose a lot of the charm.

Sorry, I ran out of time. There is technically an Easter egg if you can find a way to get past the fireball, but that should not be possible to do in normal play. I don't think you missed anything.

That is as far as I got. The goal is to collect the star and return to the door at the start. I was planning on building more, but I ran out of time.

So it turns out I failed to say what I meant... I meant to ask for help with some story specific visual assets (inside of a house, swings, another character, a few extra animation, etc.). I have seen ansimuz's other sunnyland assets, but they do not look like they would match easily together (largely because they use different color ranges). I could recolor them, but I am concerned about time.

That said the famitracker keyword was a great tip! Thank you very much. If I have time I will look that over and possibly change up my song list.

Hi everyone. Less than 24 hours to go you feeling the hype?

This year I am making a platformer game where the goal is to collect stars to show to your friend. I will be using these assets: https://opengameart.org/content/salivs-summer-uoga-jam-3 . If you think you can match that art style and are fine with the CC0 I would like to talk about getting some extra assets made. My goal this time is to focus on programming, as such I will be hosting the project on GitHub once the jam officially starts. There will be a link here later for those that want to see the how the game is coming along. Though, I still plan on talking about my progress here.

The version I submitted was tagged "v0.1". I plan to continue working on this game.

I guess I should write a quick write up as to how to play the game.

The game assumes a large scale destruction event behind the player of "totally natural" causes. The player is piloting the Hydro Jet to clear a path for the rescue team behind him as everyone is trying to escape. The meteors are very explosive and will explode if they hit the ground or are shook by each others shock waves. (If they leave the screen they are assumed to have hit the ground.) However, the Hydro Jet is equipped with a powerful beam that can not only destroy the meteors in a single shot, but also safely get rid of most of the energy.

This is great and all, but the Hydro Jet is not limited to just blowing up rocks. It can also help with the rescue! As you are playing you will see little faces and warning signs.

  • The faces are pretend rescue targets. The Hydro Jet is equipped with a near range teleportation device that it can use to move them to safety. The device is activated by pressing the rescue button (by default: 'J' on keyboard or 'Y' on Xbox controller). While active your ship will glow and any rescue targets you come close enough to (right on top of) will be saved. If you can't reach them remember the rescue team proper is behind you.
  • The orange warning signs are pretend obstructions. In an real run these would be things like down trees, flooded roads, and broken bridges that would make it harder for civilians to get to the rescue zones. The Hydro Jet is not equipped to handle these problems. Instead you use your GPS Beacon to report any problems you find to the rescue team. The GPS Beacon is placed for you. All you have to do is press the beacon button and get into scanning range. By default the beacon button is 'K' on the keyboard or 'RB' on an Xbox controller.

Scoring:

Max Round Length: 300 ish seconds (5 minutes), it always goes a tiny bit over.

  • Shooting a meteor: ................ 1 point
  • Reporting an obstruction: 30 points
  • Rescuing a target: ............... 50 points

Tips:

  • You have limited control over where the chain explosions happen and they are predictable. (Set it to hard if you want a crash course.)
  • Don't hide on the bottom. (Seriously, the meteors will get you eventually. Move up a little.)
  • The game is funner trying to clear the secondary objectives.

Thank you for your feed back! I would like to actually complete this game, but I need to rethink a lot of the design choices and a lot of the code needs rewritten. The game play seen here is pretty far off base of the story and I would like to fix that, but at the same time I stumbled on something that is pretty fun and I do not want to throw that away just because I have more time now. I plan to use your review during the redesign of the game. However, it is largely leaning away from what I have in mind. The players goal is to reduce the impact of the meteors and escape.

My biggest issue with this game is that I had to restart the program to play again. This made speed run attempts a lot less engaging. I played the windows version but I suspect the bug is in both.

Otherwise I did enjoy the game and the song suits it well.

I will admit at first I was concerned to download Roblox, because I expected to just download your game, but instead was linked to a website I had never seen before and ask to agree to terms I was not expecting and give away personal info. I do not think currently think the app is a virus or anything.

I disagree with you about Roblox being the future of online gaming. Reviews like this ( https://thecybersafetylady.com.au/2017/06/is-roblox-safe-for-kids/ ) are not hard to find and after having read most of that I do not feel I could recommend the platform to anyone with out significant changes.

However, Roblox is not my problem now. My problem is that in order to play your game I have to read and agree to the following:

Together this will probably take me at least three hours. Which would be fine if 1.) The terms are acceptable and 2.) I had a reason to do it. In the mean time you have not taken the effort to:

  • Participate in the community (except for joining and your reply, point out other examples if I am wrong).
  • Write a description of your game.
  • Provide a screen shot of your game that conveys game play or story elements.
  • Provide a game trailer that shows your game in action.

Only the first of which would have taken more than an hour of your time.

So at the end of the day here is the question. Why should I play your game? The Open Game Art community is about respecting copyright and making quality works more easily available to everyone. I have to read those documents before playing your game even becomes an option. I will never use the Roblox platform myself and I can not recommend it to others. So what is it about your game, not Roblox, that is worth gambling three hours of my life on?

PS I would recommend changing your mindset. I think it is better to have a heavy heart than a heavy wallet.

Edit (8/20/18): VinnNo. has confirmed that this is actually a game. See his post for more details on that. Just goes to show you can't judge a book by it's author, I guess. Moving forward I plan to leave my remaining posts up though. It feels wrong to take them down at this point, but take it with a grain of salt. I did not have all the information when I wrote these. Sorry.

Sorry, about the tone of my previous post. I have done a little more research and have a slightly more open view on this. Kind of... more polite at least.

"The Gamer Cat" this entry was posted first of all entries on the jam. Just 4 hours after after the Jam opened. Best I can tell you have talked to no one during the entire month of the jam. Your game's page on itch.io is very difficult to read (though it does contain a list of six OGA assets you claimed to have used). The game requires signing up for a third party service. And your previous submissions on itch.io include "Global Warming Real" and "obama.exe". All of this leads me to be very suspicious of your post.

Now I have learned some things that alleviate some of that. For example it appears to be possible to submit a jam entry before it is complete on itch.io so you could have been working on it all along and Roblox is a legit sounding service I just happen to be unfamiliar with.

However, your entry is not legit is it? I took a closer look at your games, and would be surprised if you could prove to me if any of them are real let alone this one. Feel free to prove me wrong get a copy OBS Studio or a digital camcorder and get a video of your game in action. I would love to see it, but as it stands I am really disappointed. Most of us tried really hard for a month to make a game (and a lot of people did not even finish). We kept cheering each other on and inspiring each other to do better. We poured everything we could into this. But if I played your game that is not what I would find is it? What did you have in mind? Was it a Rick and Morty joke like in "Rick and Morty Simulator", "Flip the Cartridge Over", or "Sisterhood of the Saphire". What about a jump scare like in "Touhou: Koala edition"? I will probably never know.

I was looking forward to playing your game. I planned to play it first. I did not expect it to be good, I just expected it to be interesting. Now today I face the disappointment that a game I had been looking forward to was probably never a game to begin with. I know you can do better than that. Why have you chosen this?

Bummer. If you want you could still upload your game and post a link to it here. Some people might play it and give you feedback even if it is too late (I would be interested in that.). Otherwise I guess we will see you next year then?

The game is out.

It is not as done as I would like, but I have no plans to work on it more until after the jam is over. I have a lot I want to say about it, but I plan to wait. Now does not feel like the time.

It beats the "life didn't happen" excuse. What you do have looks really cool though, and nobody else seems to have got everything they wanted done either. So don't beat yourself up to much. Life happens. ;)

So, I have questionable planning skills. As it stands the game proper is basically unchanged since the beginning of week two. Which leaves the question what have I been up to since then? Menus. Week 3 is over and my biggest accomplishment is what will probably be the most over built options menu submitted in this game jam with support for customizing the games difficulty, volume, and controls (keyboard only). Probably a mistake, but I hope you enjoy. :)

Video this week is a little more from the heart than last weeks. I forgot to mention any names in the video, so I added a short list to the description. Please note that if your name is not there it does not mean I do not appreciate you. Those are just the ones that stood out to me the most.

Things I got done last week:
* Create a start menu.
* add an exit menu to the credits page.
* make the game modes exit option functional.

Things on last weeks list that still need done:
* get the lasers a sprite.
* Make it so lasers are not fired when you unpause. (disable the fire button in menus?)
* add code to the game that spawns the meteors
* Stop overloading player input or make player input context sensitive.

Current priorities:
* Make it so the credit menu shows the asset. (this will complete the credit menu)
* Make the "game" into a game (I have done almost nothing to it since week one.)
* add a game save function for high score keeping.
* Add a credits scroll.
* Polish in "game" graphics (namely add a background)
* Polish the start menu. (background, better menu placement, etc.)

I doubt I will have time for this and bellow.
* Add an opening animation.
* Hand build the difficulty levels.
* Enhance game save function and create multiple play throughs

Week 2 Progress

Overall learning lessons about project management this week. A month sounds like a long time, but it really isn't. Make however much time you have left count.

Lot of minor updates this week.

* Added graphics for the player and meteor explosions.
* Godot default icon now represents the meteor instead of the explosion.
* Lasers no longer go through meteors.
* Selected items in menus are now highlighted.
* Sound test (the pretty tree scene) has been obsoleted by the new credits menu.
* The new credits menu is very dynamic and can be updated by changing the entries in a dictionary and a few "enum"s.

Things that still need done:
* Create a start menu.
* add an exit menu to the credits page.
* make the game modes exit option functional.

The scene looks beautiful. I think it feels like a half way point between octopath traveler and animal crossing :). I am looking forward to seeing it in action.

I had never heard of smile game builder before. It looks really cool. Also the the unity exporter is an interesting feature I had never seen before. Thank you for drawing it to my attention.

Hey everyone Saliv here. I figured I should be posting weekly updates on how my game jam entry is going. This helps me stay motivated and gives you an idea of what I am up to. I have seen that some people have already posted their work in progress entries, but I do not think my game is quiet far enough for that yet. Hopefully I will have something playable up next week. The following video shows where I am at.
