Hi! I’m Ryumka, a volunteer English-to-Russian game translator.
I love reading, story-driven games, and visual novels, so game localization has become one of my main creative interests. I enjoy helping indie developers introduce their projects to Russian-speaking players and helping more people discover games that might otherwise remain unavailable to them.
I provide Russian localization free of charge. I do not ask developers for payment. I have optional support pages such as Ko-fi, Boosty, and DonationAlerts, where members of my audience may support the time I spend on translations, but donations are never required to access my work and are not a condition of cooperation.
What I can translate:
• Visual novels
• Horror games
• Romance and otome games
• Psychological and story-driven games
• Short indie games
• Demos and games currently in development
• Ren’Py projects
My main language pair is English to Russian.
My experience
I have already translated several projects published on itch.io, so I have practical experience with both literary translation and the technical side of localization.
For Ren’Py games, I can work with localization files, accessible scripts, or project files provided by the developer. A prepared spreadsheet is helpful but not required.
I can handle:
• Dialogue, narration, choices, menus, and interface text
• Ren’Py translation files and scripts
• Russian language selection
• Cyrillic font replacement
• Language-dependent font switching
• Text inside images and animations
• Interface adjustments required for Russian text
• Testing the translated version
• Corrections after player feedback
• Preparing a separate translation patch
• Preparing localization files for an official game update
Fonts sometimes support Latin characters but lack Cyrillic characters. In such cases, I can find a visually similar font and configure the game to use it only when Russian is selected. I will always discuss noticeable font, interface, image, or script changes with the developer.
Why I am posting here
I only translate games with the developer’s explicit permission.
I previously contacted developers individually in itch.io comment sections, but repeated permission requests can look like spam. I created this topic so developers who are genuinely interested in Russian localization can contact me directly.
Before I begin working, I would like us to agree on how the translation will be released.
Available distribution options:
1. Official localization
I send the completed Russian files to the developer, and the developer adds Russian to the official game. In this case, players are directed to the original itch.io page.
2. Separate translation patch
With the developer’s permission, I publish a patch that requires the player to download the original game. The patch does not contain the complete original game.
3. Authorized Russian build
I publish a complete translated build only when the developer gives me explicit permission to do so. The original creator, studio, and game page will always be clearly credited and linked.
I will not redistribute a complete game unless its developer has specifically authorized that form of distribution.
Promotion and gameplay videos
I have a Telegram channel where I share my localization projects with my Russian-speaking audience. Every publication includes the game’s title, developer’s name, original itch.io page, and clear information about the translation.
I may also record translated gameplay for TikTok and YouTube as a demonstration of my work and as promotion for the original game. If the developer has a social media account, I will credit or tag it whenever the platform allows me to do so.
I would like to receive permission for:
• Translating the game into Russian
• Editing localization scripts where required
• Replacing or configuring fonts for Cyrillic
• Localizing text contained in images
• Testing the translated build
• Publishing the agreed translation format
• Showing translated gameplay on TikTok and YouTube
• Sharing screenshots and information about the localization
The developer always chooses the distribution method. If you prefer to publish every file yourself, I can send you the completed localization instead of releasing a patch.
Quality and corrections
I carefully edit and test my Russian translations. However, long projects may still contain typos, context errors, or technical issues. I welcome corrections from developers and players and will update my work when genuine errors are found.
Projects I am interested in
I am especially interested in visual novels, horror, romance, mystery, psychological stories, and character-focused games.
Before accepting a project, I would like to know:
• The game’s itch.io page
• Its current development status
• Approximate word count or playtime
• Game engine
• Preferred deadline, if there is one
• Whether Russian is already being translated
• Your preferred distribution option
• Whether the game contains sensitive or adult material
Since this is volunteer work, I may decline a project based on its length, schedule, subject matter, or my current workload. I prefer to discuss the scope before beginning.

Thank you for reading! I would be happy to help more indie games reach Russian-speaking players.
Hi! Thank you again for giving me permission to translate your game into Russian. I’ve now finished the localization. If you’d like, I can send you the translated scripts and other localization files so you can add Russian to the game officially. If not, that’s completely fine — it can remain an unofficial fan translation.
Hello wormieko!
I hope you're doing well. I'm a Russian translator, and people in my community asked me to translate your game into Russian. I'm happy to do it, but of course I wanted to ask for your permission first as the author.
I downloaded the game and noticed that there are already English scripts available, so in principle I can work with those. I'm sorry, but I don't know Spanish, so I'm a bit limited there. But since there's an English version, I should be able to handle the translation.
Also, regarding the build: I can assemble a working version with the Russian translation myself, so you don't need to send me any scripts.
I will only start working after I receive your permission. Thank you very much if you take the time to read my request!
Best regards,
Ryumka
Hi Chante` / VeilwalkerStudios!
I was really happy to collaborate with you on the Russian translation for Room without a View. The game is wonderful — the atmosphere, the story, and the choices feel so immersive. The visuals are absolutely beautiful! I’ve already had a chance to admire the new Jane sprite — it turned out amazing.
Many people in my Telegram channel who downloaded the game were absolutely delighted with it. They especially loved Masky sprite — everyone said he looks incredibly cute and charming.
Thank you so much for creating this game and for trusting me with the translation. I’m really looking forward to future updates!
Thank you again and stay spooky! ✨

Hi! I finally finished the Russian translation for your game.
I’m not sure if you’re interested in having an official Russian translation, but I can send you the translated scripts if you’d like to take a look.
If you’re not interested in adding it officially, that’s totally okay too — I can keep it as a fan translation.
I’m also open to cooperation if you’d like to discuss it. Thank you again for giving me permission! :) <3
Hi!
I like translating because it genuinely brings me joy. It is also nice to know that other people can enjoy the game in another language because of my work, and that gives me a lot of positive emotions.
I usually ask developers for permission first because I don’t want to make a fan translation without knowing how the creator feels about it. If I translate something and the developer later finds out and dislikes it, that could create problems. So I prefer to be respectful and ask in advance.
And as you can see, sometimes a fan translation can even become official, which makes me really happy.
It also gives me more experience with programming. I don’t just translate the text — I also try to put the translation into the game. Before, I didn’t know how to do that at all, but now I understand it a little better.
So this helps me not only as a translator, but also with my future profession. Although, to be honest, I still make mistakes sometimes. Even after doing this several times, I can be inattentive and accidentally break the code, so someone may need to fix things after me.
Still, I’m always happy when developers agree to let me translate their games. It means a lot to me.
Telegram. @Creator_Ryumka
Спасибо за понимание и за то, что помогаете сделать русский перевод лучше!
Hello!
I found "Death Note | L Der C8 Fall" and wanted to ask if I could translate it into Russian.
I wouldn’t publish or share the translation without your permission, and I would fully credit you as the original author.
If you’re not comfortable with that, I’ll completely respect your answer.
Thank you for reading!
Hello!
I really enjoyed "To Death We Wander" and wanted to ask if I could translate it into Russian.
Since it’s a Twine interactive story, I’m not sure what would be the best way to work with the files, but I’d be happy to follow whatever method is most convenient for you.
I wouldn’t publish anything without your permission, and I would fully credit you as the original author.
If you’d rather not allow a translation, that’s completely okay — I’ll respect your decision.
Thank you for reading!
Hello!
I really liked Mi Amigo Imaginario and wanted to ask if I could translate it into Russian.
I know the game is still in development, but I’d be happy to start with the version that is currently available. I wouldn’t publish anything without your permission, and I would fully credit you as the author.
If you don’t want me to translate it, that’s completely okay — I’ll respect your decision.
Thank you for reading!
Hello!
I wanted to ask if I could translate your game into Russian. I know it’s currently only a demo, but I’d be happy to start by translating this part for now.
I’m asking because your opinion as the author is important to me, and I don’t want to do anything without your permission.
If you’d rather not allow it, I will completely respect your decision.
Thank you for your time
Hi! I thought it would be right to let you know about this.
I translated your game into Russian. I’m still a beginner programmer, so the patch is not perfect yet, and there is currently no way to manually choose Russian in the game, because it switches to it automatically. But the most important thing is that the game has already been translated and can now be played in Russian :)
I just wanted to tell you about it.
