While the concept and art style are very original. There is no explanation as to how one is meant to play or "win" this game. With some UI and text, these simple additions will upgrade your project.

The gameplay is very fun. However, I think more story needs to be implemented so that the themes you adress in your writing come across to players. The pixel art is fun, but the placement of the trees is a little stiff even for the barren land. I think by refreshing some of the assets and adding more written content or cutscenes, this game's story can be fully realized.
Zip file seems to be broken but game works fine in Itch.io.
This game is very simple but very well done. The message of oil spills is carried throughout from the page and within the art style. While I think you could expand the scope of the game, it works very well in its current form. I will love to see what this team creates next! Quack Quack!
While there are some clever ideas in this game, I think some of the story does suffer from telling and not showing. If you wanted to rewrite this, I would add some sort of backstory or cutscenes as a lot of the gameplay is clicking through text. For an early attempt of a game in Unreal, this is very good. Keep trying out different perspectives and gameplay styles!
Using the orca to highlight the impact of hurricanes was a very strategic choice. The varity of game mechanics was fun, but I the later 2 levels need more polish/stakes as they seem quite easy.
Some minor things:
- The cutscenes in the upper left corner are quite small and hard to read. Try moving them ot center of the screen or make it larger for more readability
- The hurricane stock image could easily be replaced with some art or animation. If you plan on returning to this game, more original art would make this game's graphics pop.
- When I accidentally press S, I had a minor glitch where I was spinning in a circle for a minute in level 1, it corrected itself after a minute, but just a small error.
Great job coming up with a fun concept and fun gameplay. Its refreshing to see orca's being treated with this much kindness in media instead of the "killer whale" stereotype.
The two levels were engaging to play, but I feel this can be improved if the assets matched more with one another. The ending also confused me because the style of that is completley different from the earlier levels. The scope of this game is admirable but may be a tad too wide for the jam (try sticking with the levels made or the platformer, both is a ton of work). While I think focusing on plastic pollution to be a noble cause, I think more call to action other than "pick up litter" may be needed (How do we clean up microplastics? Who can be write/call to?). There are some wonderful seeds of a story here. With more time and editing, this game can sprout into something revolutionary.
The art style and aestethics of this game are very polished. Alongside playability, I think more overall needs to be fugured out about how this game is about climate disasters ad the character designs don't lean toward any specfic diasaster or region. Best of luck and with the start you guys have, I don't think it will be too difficult to make a fun and engaging game
The theming and overall message of the game is very orignal and yet so timely considered the issues with AI and data centers in a lot of areas rn. One thing about the play loop I notced however is that the order in which to contact certain NPCS is not defined and may be confusing for a player to know where to go first. Hope in the later iteration there is a little more action than giving and recieving dialogue. Can't wait to learn more out such an important issue in such an engaging way
I had major issues getting this game to work on my end so I am definatley missing more information. It would help players and judges a ton if you were able to provide a design document or description so people don't feel left in the dark on what this game actually is. I can't wait to see more of this game in the next sprint.
The art style and character designs so far look so professional and appealing. One thing I am wary though is the scale, two weeks may not be enough to build out several landscapes and storylines. By getting more specific, you may be able to have a more interesting story and more detail to get viewers attached (example, try and figure out how natural disasters are impacting the ingredients for pesto).
The playability on this game is fantastic for just a prototype! I really hope to see more storyline and more nuanced enviormental messages because simply "throwing out trash" may not be as in line with the jam's theme as it could be. Overall, with the amount of content thus far I can't wait to see how great this game can be. Good luck!
The language you use to describe the natural diasters is very poetic, I would love to see if you add some of these elements to the written portions of the game. During the prototype spring you will need to narrow down what exactly the player does to either hurt/heal the enviorment and how. This week, make sure you focus on the more technical aspects of the game because while the aestethics are promising, I want to know hiow this will translate to an interactive medium
The discussion of how natural disasters impacting smaller islands and developing communities is incredibly important and I am glad you are discussing it! Your timeline and mechanics are very well fleshed out so I have high hopes you will be able to make a quality game in the time given. One thing in the visual style that I am wary of is the background being pixelated while the characters are not. Make sure that the artists keep the colors in mind so they don't look like they are from two seperate games. Overall I am very psyched to check this out!
The idea of the newscaster is very creative and a fun spin on the theme of the jam. The game is a good balance of entertainment and education, but I would like to see more examples of how the game's comic style will ultimatley look. Make sure to narrow down how many different storylines you have so you have a handful of great dialogue for the jam. Can't wait to play this game and I love the comic book story heavily.
Like the logo and the tagline. However, I was unable to get this game to run on my pretty powerful PC. While I appreciate the effort to get a prototype done in the ideation phase, I feel like we are still missing what this game will look like and the overall mechanics of the game itself. I hope you guys will be able to add more to those parts of the game in the next week.
I love the idea of navigating the boat in this game. It feels like an Oregon Trail for a modern time. One thing I'd keep in mind is balancing between the bee management and the adventure game elements so you aren't overwhelmed with making nearly two seperate games. Overall this idea is very creative and a strong start for further development
Time travel component and mechanics are very polished and beautiful. From an artistic standpoint, the 2D assets in the prologue do not necesarily match the vibe of the rest of the 3D ones. Possibly having screenshots or renders of the 3D characters instead of the illustrations would make the two flow more cohesivley. Other than that, this game is beautiful, heartfelt, and clever.
Cute style and a very interesting twist on the climate change discussion. From a art perspective, this game would really be improved by making walking animations for the player and NPCs and maybe more landscape art/assets. But, even without these, I still understood who was who. Very fun, can't wait to see what this team does next!
This game has a really unique perspective to renewable energy and the conflicts it can incite between communities versus corporations. The pixel art style was very charming and the animation was very smooth for the most part. I had slight issue reading the text at the very beginning as the longer sentences got cut off on my monitor. Other than that, you found a way to make emails fascinating and would love to see further development of this story and art in the future!
I think the strongest part of this game has to be the research and the muskoxen species itself. However, the gameplay loop as it stands is very short and too simple for repeated plays. I also think that the pixel art should be the main artstyle in all of the elements, including the background. I think with reworking of the levels and added content I would be more intrigued.
I love the concept of the card game and the storytelling aspects in both the description and the cards themselves make me wish there was more artwork to fully flesh out this story and further elaborate on how the players can "change the story" on climate change. I'm a fan of the monochromatic look, but if you were planning on publishing this elsewhere I do believe some of the fonts should be changed in order to make it more readable (typically simple, sans serif fonts like Arial or Comic Sans are easiest to read for dyslexic or vision-impaired individuals). I think the risk you took in making a card game has paid off, can't wait to watch this world come to life.
This game was very entertaining especially by personifying the many parts of the ocean. One issue I had was that even though I never completed the krill mission, I was still allowed to complete the game... The blue jellyfish in both foreground and background caused me a little difficulty at the beginning of the game as I kept swimming towards something that wasn't there. By simplifying the background graphics and adding more animations would make this game look more polished, but this game was a narrative delight!
This game was an absolute blast!
I personally love the idea of the turn-based enviornment. I understand the message of harmony between the enviorment and people, but wish there was more of a connection with the music so the player could year the land and people "harmonizing".
Overall a beautiful and fun strategy game!
The wiring concept is great but I still believe there needs to be more clarification on the mechanics of the game and how this game is supposed to end (does the world go back to normal/habitable?). While the pixel art works, the overall setting is very bleak and difficult to tell what is supposed to be what. Hope to see more!
