The only thing I was not fully on board with was using the pluck-synth theme as is again after the break at 1:27. It is used a lot in the tune and also right before the break. Also I think it is too high-energy for the post-break part. A reduced version of it would have fitted the post-break part/ outro a little bit better in my opinion. That being said, I really liked basically everything else about the track. Great work and again great sound.

I found the bass to be very overpowering on my speakers as well. I also think the choice to give the piano no room reverb or at least much less than the accompaniment would suggest makes the first part of the track spatially inconsistent. That being said, I liked the harmonic content of the piece. I just found that some of the production choices did not really work for me.
Hello everyone,
I just discovered this weekly jam a few days ago. This is a great idea. The other audio-only jams are (in my opinion) rare and hard to find in the jam overview.
I have a question regarding this jams "difficulty" selection. What is the effect of choosing between beginner/intermediate/advanced? I chose beginner since I just recently started composing more broadly even though i have been playing music (mostly guitar) on and off for many years.
@emscottish : If this can be done without too much work, having a link to next weeks jam in the description/text of the current weeks one would be super nice. Then one would not have to search for it in the list of jams every week and could just move from weekly jam to weekly jam. If this is too much work never mind. Just some feedback. Thank you for hosting these jams :)
Best regards
Hey pixcele,
thank you for setting up this Jam. It was really nice to hear all the other submissions and get some feedback on my track as well.
Overall I really liked your track. I have one comment on production and one loosely related memory that came up when I heard your track:
I find the difference in space the background drone and the piano in the very beginning occupy a little bit irritating. The drone feels very spacious and the piano feels very brittle and claustrophobic. I guess there are cases where such illogical acoustic spaces can work but here I think I would have preferred it if both parts would have felt a little bit more „in the same space“.
Your (reversed) poetry reminded me of a track I did with a friend a long time ago. We reversed some spoken sentences, memorized how they sounded and recorded us saying them „in reverse“. We once more reversed that and got some really striking otherworldly but understandable spoken passages. It’s a really fun trick we stole from the TV series Twin Peaks. If you never tried that before I recommend giving it a shot if you need some really unsettling voice lines some day.
Super nice tune. I actually get some Breath of the Wild vibes from some of the harmonies. I think a lot of memorable stuff in that soundtrack is based on stacking 5ths. I tried to play along to some parts in your track and I think that there is also some emphasis on stacking 5ths at least in a few places? Was this a deliberate choice or was it just happening by playing around? In any case I really liked it :)
Thumbs up for going for something a little bit more experimental. I am quite a bit into drone/noise music so I think it is really cool to have it represented in this jam.
What I look for the most in this type of music is a unified aesthetic when it comes to the sounds used/produced. For my taste, the track lacks a little in regards to this cohesion. When listening I do not get a clear picture in my head of where the track is supposed to take me. With regards to production I would argue that there could be some more low-end rumble in the louder parts to give them some more weight. Apart from that, I really like it.
I liked the atmosphere of the track very much but also agree that maybe adding some bass instrument or low octave keys would fill some empty low-end space. Also just adding some simple low frequency material e.g. half way through the track can help to give a sense of forward motion to the piece. Also (at least on YouTube) the overall volume seems to be quite low. Apart from that I really think the track fits the chosen category nicely.
Thank you very much for your feedback :)
I agree that the track is a bit more on the repetitive side. I tried to counteract this by throwing in new ideas every 4-8 measures and mixing even and odd numbers of repetitions for melodic themes etc. For my taste, especially due to its short length it still works fine as an unintrusive background/soundtrack piece, but that of course is a matter of personal taste :)
Hello everyone,
I get that the rules for this jam are quite loose but I still have a general question:
Do you make your track(s) loopable for this one?
I never played Minecraft myself but I probably listened to the soundtrack (especially the two initial C418 ones) for at least a few hundred hours. I just now watched some footage of people playing the game and from what I have seen I think the songs are just fading in and out so I would opt for "not loopable" similar to the OST versions. Since I have no experience in playing this game I just wanted to get some feedback on that to be sure.
