This has potential but its very clunky. Im quite expecting this to get much better and Im eager to see it.
auto text made me miss the initial dialogue, having to wait for the text to end to do things. text extending over the buttons, etc
Liked using the hair pin to remove the handcuffs
Obviously the art is just placeholders but i like for example how it changes when you open drawers and stuff. The pixel art has a couple artstyles mixed together and thats simply strange.

The levels maybe are a bit too long.
Please put the controls in the description so people dont try every single key like me! hehe
I dont know the limitations of pico8 but maybe an animation for when kanata is not moving could make it look more polished, even id its just the head moved down one pixel.

First of all, I like how well-crafted it is, so trying it out isn't a bad experience. The menu moving when you press play, how it resets when you lose, there are sounds when they speak, showing you how many turns you have left in your face, etc. Very curated.
It's a game with a LOT of content and dialogue, which I didn't expect. The conversations are in a style that reminds me of PC-98, without the technical limitations, of course. I think they have a very important essence, and the dynamic elements in them, like Bee Ame, bring them to life. The character art is what wins the prize in this case. I'm very jealous of the portraits in the Kronii dialogue box because I can't draw that well.
I know it's complicated because I've been at it for a while too, but I think that with the great team you had, you should have looked for another type of game. Maybe something more narrative and not a puzzle. I feel like humor is your thing, and having to do puzzles, some easy and some more complicated, overshadows that.
The music is also incredible, but after listening to it three times, it's already driving me crazy.
Having said all of this I expect this gem to do reallyyy well in the rankings!
i think it is really good, it has a lot of polish, buildings dithering so i could see behind them was a nice surprise.
great use of 3rd party assets. Loved the convos. Nerissa for sure lays eggs but shes just embarrassed.
if you are beside nerissa you are immortal. maybe scroll the water texture so it doesnt look static?

My skills are lacking in the story and scripting department, I'm not too creative and was constrained to my code. Spoiler alert, is awful haha

At the beginning I thought of making it like a game of Clue but with Hololive members being murdered or murderers, but it seemed a bit dark to me and I doubted if it would fit Cover's guidelines.
But you're right, literally everything you've listed is a better idea than mine lol. It could totally have a Part 2 with what you said.
