Yeah, the upgrades intentionally stop working at that point. I originally only wanted gameplay to go to 1 billion mana, but people kept going way beyond that. So my solution was to reward that in some small way, even if you can't really progress from there.

You call it a bug, I call it an easter egg!

I was aware of it, and actually left it in intentionally, because I thought it was fun! :)

Thank you so much for the kind words!

The mana wells and soil quality are represented with the blue and green particles coming from the bottom respectively. I originally wanted to do more with them, but was limited not only by time, but also the fact that I'd have to draw a well in multiple sizes as the background shifted.

Yes, Godot unfortunately doesn't support Mac in the browser. Have you tried the MacOS download?

I'm glad you liked it! Thank you so much for the feedback.

As far as the gray background goes, it seems like that happens when I zoom into itch.io, so you might not be at normal zoom.

The scroll thing is the "cheat" I mentioned in the description ;)

There is no music, I was waffling with some ideas, but nothing seemed to fit.

Thanks again!

lol, well close enough, probably

This game is hard, I can't seem to beat the first guy.

I do like the atmosphere though!

Also I think your goal of a game a month is really cool. I hope you stick with it!

Since I haven't been able to find a workaround, I exported a Linux build. Hopefully it works.

So it looks like unfortunately Godot 4.x currently has no MacOS support for web builds.

I did however make a MacOS build that might work. You'd have to download it, and it's possible your Gatekeeper will try to block it. See the link for help: https://docs.godotengine.org/en/stable/tutorials/export/running_on_macos.html#do..

Hmm... That's strange. Can you tell me what operating system and browser you're using? I'll have a chance to try to fix it soon.

hmm... I'm sorry you weren't able to play the game. Unfortunately I don't have a Mac available for testing.

Could you maybe check if anything is coming up in the console of your browser?

wonky numbers have been fixed!

wonky numbers have been fixed!

The wonky numbers should be fixed now!

I hope you enjoyed it!

I'm glad you liked my little "cheat"! I'll see what I can do about the wonky values.

I'm really glad you liked it! Especially the art, since that's what I was trying to improve in this project.

I really only tested up to the final growth stage at 1 billion, but did also notice some glitchy behavior afterward. I guess I should have expected people to go beyond!

The tree is already fully grown! It's going to explode!

It's at 1 billion mana. There should be a little popup, but it goes away after a few seconds.

Thanks for mentioning that. I'm honestly not sure why this is happening, since under the hood the numbers keep counting properly. I'll take a look at it.

The background effect as you rise through the clouds was pretty neat! Though it was a bit tricky to tell where my character was relative to the other cubes, sometimes I wasn't sure if I was going to hit them or not.

Really fun game and funny too! Simple yet addictive, and well made. Only thing, I kept confusing the coin icon in the UI (at the top of screen) for a real coin.

Thank you for the kind words! It was definitely intended to be punishingly difficult, but there is also lots I would clean up if I had time.

Haha, thank you!

Thank you so much for the kind words!

I added two more levels before the jam ended. Might add more later if I can think of more gimmicks, lol

I'm sorry it gave you trouble. I wanted the levels to feel impossible without paying with the settings, but maybe I went too far.

To be completely honest, I didn't see the theme until I was already mostly done.

You could argue though that it's less is more because every art asset is the godot logo.

I'm glad you enjoyed it! And I added two more levels for you to try!

I understand your issue with arbitrary numbers. If I had more time I would have tried to reactor them, as is I just used what the math gave me sure to time constraints.

I only added them at all because it felt like there needed to be some feedback of the changes to be able to repeat levels faster

I really liked the look and feel of this one! A very unique approach, and well executed overall!

Also I feel super dumb, somehow it took me until I was level 4 to find the frost fairy... I searched the whole map it felt like 3 times before I finally found the bridge staring me in the face at the start, lol

Your team obviously put a lot of love into this project, and it shows. The atmosphere, music and visuals are great!

I found the differing pixel sizes of various elements a bit distracting, it ruins the immersion a bit.

It was exciting to see a game with a real story going on, most of these jam games let the story fall a bit.

At some point my attack stopped working, and resetting the keybind wasn't working for some reason. I then reloaded the game and accidentally clicked the new game button. The button to not reset the game doesn't work there!

This is a really cute game! The visuals are great, and the music and sound effects really evoke the old school feel.

I found the controls a bit difficult (was frequently jumping into sawblades when activating the jetpack), but overall I had a good time!

This game is great, might be my favorite of the jam!

The controls are super satisfying, and I love the visual and audio feedback.

Also, it's huge! Good thing there's a map. Well done!

Overall really fun! I was a little confused at first that I could move up and down, haha.

I noticed that I could skip all the enemies (except the boss).

I think a finished game would be really fun! I'd be interested to know what other powerups you had planned.

I agree with another comment that sound would have added a lot, but I had a good time!

I think it looks really nice, feels like the beginning of something great. Unfortunately, like other commenters, I have had issues continuing because the pits don't kill me. I would love to see a finished version!

The artwork looked very nice, I especially liked the particles. The sounds were very satisfying, but the jump sound kept triggering like every second despite me not jumping. I liked the level design, but some of the jumps required high precision. Overall , good job!

It's a good start, with cute visuals. Nice idea!

I also got stuck in the boss arena.

The background was difficult to differentiate from the foreground.

Graphics were simple but charming. I liked the game play, though it would be nice to have coyote time, some of the jumps require high precision

This is easily one of the better games in the jam! Definitely a lot of metroidvania elements, and it's a fun map to explore!

I would add another enemy type, since those wasps start to get annoying after a while, and rockets feel a bit slow.

The mechanics are fun, the art is cohesive, and there's even a story! This is a really great game!

My only real critique is that some of the enemies feel a bit fast or hard to get rid of. The jumping slimes are scary aggressive, and the bats will chase you to the ends of the earth!
