Good plan! I will be watching your updates

(1 edit)

Guess  i will start. My vision of what my game was supposed to be was a re-imagining of "Agent USA" from the 8 bit days into the Covid times. That and to run around and shoot masks on people that wont wear a mask. The original goal is to stop the spread of the virus across the nation, earn and spend political points, and deal with citizen's reactions to measures you put in place. All too lofty for a two week programming jam so we scaled it way back. Stop the virus in the state, the only measure is the lockdown in the state, no scoring or money, no store, no upgrades. So the game is very much bare-bones, but it had enough to see if it was of interest, and so far I have gotten good feedback.

Once the Jam is over I do want to finish it. At the minimum to complete the content in its bare-bone form. I just am unsure what the "Most" complete form should be, and once the resolution limitation is over how much of an upgrade should I do on screen size, resolution, special effects, etc. Is it possible for a mobile market? The theme can be quite heavy (really nobody is happy about Covid) and this size and artwork lightens the mood, and gives you some kind of feeling like you can control the situation (which is all fantasy). I don't want to step anywhere towards make it more real.

Any advice and feedback is greatly appreciated. And I wanted to know what others feelings are about their games, are they going through similar thought processes? This Jam was a test of my idea and I am trying to understand the results.

Are you going to make a Version 2 of your game? What features/Elements will you add? Are you sticking to the LowRezJam limitations or going ultimate edition? What platforms are you going to target?

Excellent job!

I've seen a few that made a second version for download, but I don't think that would work for Web Games. I am not the official spokesman here but if the bug breaks the gameplay (like not being able to talk to characters, or unable to quit) I think that should be okay. But adding features, etc. That would be another story. Still going to have to what on confirmation from https://jackoatley.itch.io/ or https://matharoo.itch.io/  for official word.

Ah so obvious now. LOL I was so focused on not dying, i didnt notice it

I really enjoyed this game. It reminded me of all the time i spent in the 80s playing Wizardry and Bards Tale.

I love the lit shadows behind the active enemies. Such a little thing adds so much feel to the game. Fun to play too. There were pickups but i didnt notice any kind of healthbar or score.

I love planetary defense type games! Good fun!

Very cool vibe. Reminds me of the low res game Sword and Sorcery.

Super Fun. I am so bad at letting go of wall before jumping LOL. Good combination of puzzler and kill. Good job!

Please stream my entry, I would love feedback!

if you go to the hospital it will show the "sick" person on your mini map. The small screen does make it hard to spot the person just walking around.

I really like the multiple spell types.

Fun game! Some pickups and bonus would be fun

I can totally see my cat doing this. Enjoyed this puzzler. Music is fun!

Nice and simple. Sometimes random mazes are too random, no patterns to learn. But I enjoyed this.

What a great puzzler! Quick Clean Game!

Pretty fun!

Was it hard to get the bar to match the music timing?

I really enjoy this game. I reminds me of Outward Runic Magic system. I could spend a lot of time on this game!

Reminds me of the worst job i ever had.

Nice and hard. A good puzzler.

Nice and hard. A good puzzler.

TYTYTY For the color blind mode. I tried without and could not tell the red from green.

I submit to you my entry COVID FIGHTER. I think games that let you do what you cannot do in real life are some of the best. This one is no exception. Basically you shoot masks at people with a T-Shirt cannon. Well there is a lot more to it than that. This LOWREZJAM 2020 was very challenging and I learned a TON of stuff doing it. I had to scale way back from my original idea to get it ready in time. I will definitely being doing another version once the jam is complete to implement all of it. Heck I may even keep it 64x64!

I recommend you check out the Pixel Perfect Camera Package for Unity. https://docs.unity3d.com/Packages/com.unity.2d.pixel-perfect@4.0/manual/index.html
It lets you keep the graphics to the desired resolution even when viewing full screen. Be sure to use pixel snapping.

Is keyboard/mouse combo okay or is it all D-pad?
