The technique I used here is

  1. Split all shadow-casting shapes into a list of line segments.
  2. For each line segment, generate a quad mesh.
  3. In a renderpass, render each quad mesh with a shader that displaces the outer edge away from the light source. These are all rendered to a screenspace RenderTexture. As this is done by the GPU, it's very fast.
  4. In a renderPass, multiply the current screen by the light texture. 

In my current version of this. I do a few more things to to get soft shadows (generating triangles at the ends of line segments for the soft penumbra part of the shadow), so soft shadows are definitely possible with this method. 

As all the lights are drawn to a single screenspace texture before rendering, it would be possible to run AA on this, but it might require implementing it from scratch/reverse engineering one of Unity's render passes, which wouldn't be a minor task. 

Yeah, this is all real-time.

Liked the artwork, and the intro was a nice touch. 

Cool idea. And imaginary number puns? appreciate that!


For constructive feedback, the shot sound got a little repetitive. Have you considered randomising the pitch?

Cool game, well polished. Loved the retro look and use of colours.

Maybe a tad too difficult though. And some screenshake could have brought it up to 11.

Movement felt a bit fast though, and it would have been nice to have some feedback when the mode changed. Maybe even a palette swap. 

Cool twist, wasn't expecting that. 

The difficulty was a bit harsh though. Hitting  the other paddle felt like pure luck.

That was... really surreal. Well done.

Loved the art. Control scheme was a bit odd though, and I feel like the player moved a little fast.

Liked the sound effects, and the subtly alive door sprites. Good use of theme.

Loved the pixel art.

The movement felt a bit floaty though.  And the knife moved far too slowly. 
Personally, I'd have gone with cell-based movement to go with the arrow-key firing. 

Loved the sound and ambiance.

Controls were maybe a little tricky, and could have used some more explanation. 

Hit tab to restart the level.

Loved the character. Super cute.

A few areas of improvement though.

It'd be good if the menu could be operated by keyboard. It feels weird for the game to be entirely keyboard, then have to switch to the mouse for menus. 

It should auto-restart if you fall off.

I had a few random crashes to desktop.

Good idea, and I do love me a clicker game.


Had some UI issues unfortunately, though. Some of the buttons weren't working.

Liked the swinging a lot.

Fun, and polished. I like the way you tilt into movement.
