Thanks for the comment! We’re really glad you liked the visuals - we were thinking of adding a bit of background and showing the props you can purchase, too 🙂

As for the music, as mentioned elsewhere, it was simply a matter of the time we had left to implement the final features (we had a long list, but we ended up running out of time because of some home renovation work!).
The stress bar may also be affected by a bug that allows it to go below zero, so if you buy many stress-reducing items it can take a long time before it rises again and becomes visible.
Invoices usually appear as soon as you finish a task and can be clicked from behind the desk. Unfortunately, some clients pay so little that even working for a long time isn’t enough to make ends meet - just like in a translator’s real life ^__^

Hey Balestack, thanks for your feedback! Yeah, music and sound effects were planned, but the dev didn’t have time to implement them, as he had to prioritize other mechanics. We’ll also add an “end day” button in the next build, so you can skip to the next day when there’s nothing else to do. Can’t wait to release the new build!

We actually had plans for a background, background music, and of course the essential sound effects (keyboard typing, purchase sounds, and a few others I don’t even remember anymore). But in the end, the developer had to prioritize balancing, and there just wasn’t enough time to implement these little touches. He could have added them after the deadline, but that would’ve felt a bit like cheating.

Anyway, we already have all the sound assets ready, so as soon as we can update the game after the voting phase, we’ll definitely add them! As for the stress bar: it might not have gone up because you bought items that reduce it (and due to a bug, the bar can even go below zero). If you didn’t buy any, it might be because you never missed a delivery, which is currently the only way to accumulate stress. In the future, we’re planning to increase it when rent day gets close and you don’t have enough money.

Okay, I finally finished the game (and I’d like to point out that our atrocious performance on the Twitch video was entirely due to using a trackball mouse; now that I’ve played with a normal mouse, I aced every challenge with flying colors, even if not always on the first try!). And indeed, I ended up accusing the one character whose minigame was too difficult to actually complete (I was already certain of everyone else’s innocence).

To my great surprise, that didn’t work, so I had a last-second flash of genius, and my final intuition was confirmed by Mr. Peugeot.

The plot twist was unexpected and hilarious, as were all the subsequent demonstrations and pieces of evidence laid out to prove his guilt. Honestly, everything held up beautifully right to the end, and every detail was polished to perfection. We also had fun replaying Tarrant’s minigame several times to see if we could get any farther, but in the end we gave up.

Really, chapeau,  there should be more games like this! c🏆🥇🎉

I'll continue my comment here, as it seems that most of the comments are here. We were 3 yesterday playing this surreal game, because I picked it on purpose out of dozens of demos, just following my gut and its ridiculous art style. And I was absolutely right. The game is phenomenal; I laughed the entire time. It’s packed with silly little details made with love for the sole purpose of entertaining.

Unfortunately, we’re absolute noobs and lost twice, and then the game crashed so we couldn’t continue, but we’ll make sure to find out who the murderer on board is.
We can’t vote for it because it’s not on our list, but as far as I’m concerned this is my GOTY. I’d obviously have paid for it on Steam. I really hope it gets released one day. Huge compliments: it’s a masterpiece!
(And when you do release it, don’t forget about me if you ever need a professional translation ;) )

I wrote the previous comment yesterday because I was on ildede's PC. The stream in in Italian but I believe you'll be able to understand how much fun we had 🤣

We hope we’ll be able to implement the events as soon as we’re allowed to: they’re the heart and soul of the game! Even more so because many of them are inside jokes meant especially for people in the industry.

As for productivity, you’re absolutely right: it needs to be shown somehow. I think we postponed dealing with it because it could go in two very different directions; either the number of words you can produce in a day - which would need a cap, since nobody can crank out 30k in a single day unless they subcontract to 20 people or rely on machine translation! - or the “hit points” each typed letter inflicts on the files.

We’ll definitely need to settle on a system and make it clear, along with deadlines and the specific clients attached to each task, so players can understand which ones to prioritise.

Well, tower defense is the foundation of the game: you’re defending your office from incoming tasks and waves of clients. The typing part may or may not be implemented in the end, but it was part of the original idea, even if it eventually took a back seat.

The real game lies in managing clients and finances: the goal is to chase after the clients who pay better and faster, but of course you can only get those by surviving long days of underpaid work… just like real freelance life.

So basically, you'll be balancing income and expenses, upgrading your office to boost productivity, and cranking out more words for more clients, trying not to disappointing anyone or ending up in burnout. Easy, right? X’D

That's brilliant! Before working on my last release this was my same idea, I wanted to set the whole story in Rome, with its specific references, emergent local bands and collectors that are only known to native Romans, local slang and such! Still, while the idea was thrilling, I am afraid I didn't trust enough my guts, mostly because it would have made sense only to few players, while everybody else would have need a whole "dictionary" to get the references and decypher expression. It was probably way longer and more complicated than creating a whole rhymed game 🤣 Too bad I wouldn't be able to get your references, I would have loved to play this version! Great idea, love it!

Finalmente riesco a vedere questa submission, che lavorone dev'esser stato! Ottima idea, magari fosse così comodo poter implementare una roba simile ogni volta che abbiamo un gioco con personaggi a scelta ma nessuna variabile nel testo! Complimenti, e chissà che prossimamente non si riesca a fare qualcosa a quattro o più mani  con diversi sviluppatori!

Wow, just got here to try and understand what language it was, then stayed when realized it was from Basque country. This looks like nothing I've ever seen before, and th eonly way I could have ever linked this to my knowledge is because I know some terms from traditional Basque dances and they looked similar to what I was reading. So cool, I wish I knew more!

I love the autosave! I'll keep this in mind for future jams, if you don''t mind! May I suggest to add a screen to explain you have introduced the autosave feature? This way people will know they can close the game even if they don't land on this page where you explained it :)

I also tried the recorder hack and the skip dialogue options, they work like a charm, congrats! (maybe you could also add the CTRL description to the Options screen!)

I can't speak Russian but the efforts you described in your Post mortem are clear, you worked very hard and I loved the sharing spirit, awesome!

Wow, now that's what I call a post mortem! Very thorough, a perfect guide for beginners, but it still sums up all the processes that even an established translator should never forget!

I know you said you had little time and maybe it wasn't worth it for such a small project, but I assure you that no project is too small to import into MemoQ! Even just - and you probably already know this - to avoid relying on external tools to check consistency or spelling. The time you spend passing the file through external tools is probably greater than what it takes to import a project. And I assure you that I am a total noob who only has the most essential knowledge of MemoQ, but if I can help you, I'll be happy to explain the import of a basic project like one for a jam :)

I love the wordplay for the title! And the graphics too, I shortly tried to copy the same font but then didn't have much time and asked my partner to do so, and he picked a different font. I played the first part, wished I could play some more but you know, Monday morning, not enough time... 🤣 Great job, guys!
