this is a dillemma and sad to me as I have commissioned the piece and also replied to the comment who accused me of using AI. I believe its bleak when people accuse real artist illustrations of being AI. It takes away more from artists than it does from AI. Imagine an artist spending weeks on a piece and people label it AI with no proof whatsoever.
i would need to agree the tags needs work and I dont want to "abuse" itch. The only thing I currently am baffled about is how shockingly little organic traffic there is. If I look at the analytics out of 23 views that my project just had, 17 is traffic from this post. Now, in the past I had uploaded a different game, that was 3-4 years ago, before indexing issues were widespread and I had way more organic traffic and people actually playing my game. Something changed, I realise the volume of games has increased but we would also evaluate the volume of games that are just "fodder". I would really LIKE to support itch as a platform as a developer but when the upload limit is 1k (which is almost nothing for modern games which are texture heavy) and itch does very little to promote games that are not horror streamer bait, its hard to commit to it. Maybe its the genre, very likely but subjectively I feel itch has very bad organic visibilty compared to back then. For instance an important real estate on itch is the "fresh games" section. It seems while your game may get indexed, its very unlikely to appear on that. I suppose thats where alot of eyes are too.
i had uploaded previous builds of the demo onto itch and they all never got indexed. I could ve sworn 4-5 years ago projects would at least get views so people find them easier or discover them easier, now its maybe a fraction of it, at least thats my perception. If I look at others index post here, they all meet itchs requirement and arent indexed, and I sometimes like to download or play really janky games on itch because thats what its cool for. A people where everyone has a equal chance no matter the budget or audience.

Hi,
I recently released my games demo https://jinndev.itch.io/gun-monkey-demo and I tried before but apart from indexing issues, the projects dont get any views at all. Its like itch bans them into the shadow realm asap. Itch used to be a good platform for indies to get an audience but I cannot seem to explain why new games dont appear in "fresh games" or recents. Maybe Im just wrong but id like someone to explain me how to get views on a project now on itch.io. I know you re supposed to do the "marketing" but I swear back then itch still put your game into the discovery queue. It seems random now.
