Hey decided I should share my game on here lol. I made this over this last weekend, wanted to challenge myself after thinking more about the mechanics of Uno and Crazy 8s

This doesn’t perfectly emulate that experience, particularly with calling other players out when only one card is in their hand. And it also made me realize how much of a social experience Uno is! The AI players are designed to be challenging but not perfectly optimal, and don’t give up hope! I’ve played rounds where I got hit twice with a draw 4 but still ended up winning. Alternatively, you may also lose very quickly.

I thought about using environment variables, but I just wanted to do something simple so I opted to go with a filename. It's certainly not a secure option and a bit odd but the encryption part of Jern isn't meant to be perfect, I meant it more for obfuscation and obstruction (someone scraping your files for instance would come across it and not be able to read it, for example)

Thanks for pointing out that part about the Turkish keyboard! Ideally I'd like to make those shortcuts user-mappable so that it can adapt to any keyboard 

Navigating older entries is a popular request and will definitely be in a later version :)

A lot of the resources I found regarding AES-128 went on about encoding the data in Base64 so that it's an actual string and I just decided to go along with that (I believe it stemmed from originally Jern saving/reading .txt files)

Honestly I was surprised to find the "locally encrypted journaling tool" space to be pretty niche, which makes sense because most people want the convenience and flexibility of cloud journaling solutions that sync all of your entries and such. Personally I just feel odd keeping any journal in the cloud ("oh you wrote about having anxiety and depression? here's some products we can sell you!", that sort of thing lol) . But really thank you both for checking it out :)

Wow thanks so much for checking out my game! I really appreciate you taking the time to play it. I totally agree that it is lacking in content and I hope to add more to it soon in a later update! I did also like your suggestion of having "Wait" bound to Spacebar as well, just to help keep the controls simple.

The one handed controls are a bit hard to get used to, but the presentation and gameplay is excellent. I really like the concept here.

At first I was really confused about what to do after getting the gems, I was assuming that I'd get another tower, so I pressed every button I could think of! But then I figured out that I had to move the tower over to upgrade it.

It's a great concept, I'd love to see this fully realized with more time. It's very hard, but not in a bad way. I was more successful each attempt.

For real tho, once I figured out what to do with the frame, my jaw dropped. Definitely wasn't expecting that! It's a bit lacking in the presentation but all is forgiven, as I'm sure it was a slog to try and get that system to work.

That fanfare that plays made me think I had won, and nearly made me lose very quickly lol.

It's a simple concept, but presented very well. I guess my only complaint is how quickly the scene changes stopped, that was a neat effect.

I enjoyed the concept of the spirit cube leaving the boy and having an opportunity to protect him, that was pretty neat.

There was nothing I disliked, very pleasant game. I will say once I figured out the controls, the game became very easy. But I'm a glutton for punishment.

It's pretty fun, I like the concept! I noticed when I charged my shot and released the mouse button, it didn't shoot. I had to press it again to fire. Not sure if that was intended

Sands of Delirium is my submission for the 2019 7DRL Challenge. It was designed as a coffee-break roguelike. This is my first shot at this challenge and is also my first complete, polished game.

Story: Descend the stairs of the evil djinn's lair and gather the 5 crystal gems to earn your freedom. Be careful, the gems seem to have a strange effect on your mind. Make it out of the lair with as much gold as you can!

Controls:
HJKL (YUBN) - Movement
Space - Pickup item/Down stairs

About: Made with Game Maker Studio 2. Graphics by Oryx Design Lab. Uses some code from /u/riotpopper and Mfzz99 as a basis (Generator and AI). Sound from SFXR & BFXR. Also utilized GitHub Desktop to be able to work on this at home and work.

I began work on this game on Saturday, March 2nd, 2019 and completed it on Thursday, March 7th, 2019 PST.

I had to submit this early as I will be out of town this weekend.

I really enjoyed the stealth aspect, luring them out of the light to dispatch them quickly. Very cool!

Space bar on Firefox makes the page move down so I would avoid the fortune cookies lol.
