UPDATE #...

Hi guys,
Buried my head in work the past few days to make sure it's ready, hence why I've not given much updates.
------
My Unnamed Climbing Game  for the Pan African Game Jam is now ready. Give it a try here: Play Unnamed Climbing Game
------
This version has 15 levels with one Bonus level. You'll need to play all fifteen levels to find out what the bonus level is 😉
------
The plan is to continue working on this even after the game jam. I have so many ideas I want to implement, so stay tuned for  ore updates on my itch page and on my Tiktok.

Cheers 🥂

Hi guys,
I'm back with another update.

UPDATE #3
I added two new systems:
- Slippery latch: As it's name sounds, this latch is slippery. It does not hold you for long so you have to get off it as quick as you can.
- Bouncy Walls: Bouncy wall reflects you jump. To gain more height, all you need is to jump against a bouncy wall,

Still adding a lot more latch types and traversal systems.

See you in the next one.

Hi Guys,

Another Update on My Mobile climbing Game, Where You Can't Lose
Added a new type of latch the player can hang on called the sliding latch. Once the player hangs on it, it propels the, forward in the direction of the Latch.
It's been really fun building levels with this latch.
It's one of my favourites so far because of the speed it adds to the game.

If you want to see the full video about sliding latch, check it on my Tiktok page here: Sliding Latch Full Video

If you are interested in testing this game on mobile, let me know.

See you in the next one.

Thank you

Hi guys,

I started working on a climbing game for this jam last week. The twist is that, in this climbing game, you can't lose, there are only setbacks...a lot of setbacks. The you can't lose idea follows the theme of 'Play Without Borders'. You can play as you like, fail in climbing as many times as possible, but there is really no lose state.

I've been posting updates on TikTok on the progress so far, you can check it out here if you are interested. I'll also start posting updates here as frequently as I can.

And so it begins!

RETURNER: A Metroidvania Where You Possess Enemies

I just wrote the first Returner Devlog here. Your likes and comments will be appreciated.

Thanks.

Returner Capsule
Returner: Child of Ash, A Metroidvania Game Where You Possess Enemies For Combat and Traversal
Hello everyone, I'm here to introduce the game I've been working on for the past few months.

I'll keep things short and simple and just write the important parts of the projects to know if it right up your alley or not.

RETURNER is an action-adventure where your enemies are your greatest weapons. It follows the journey of a child who has the unique ability of possessing enemies. This ability is called Lunging,

and it is what makes the core loop of the game. During your journey through the world of RETURNER, you will use this ability to possess enemies and traverse the world in interesting ways, you will also use it for combat in unique ways.while possessing enemies, you will also be able to use them against other enemies for combat.

Think about this, in front of you is a large gap that you can't jump over, but there is a nearby flying enemy, so you possess the enemy, fly over the gap and continue your journey. What about when you are in a tough boss fight with many enemy mobs around. Instead of being frustrated, you use the mobs against the boss by possessing them and using their unique ability. This is just few of the interesting ways possession can be used in RETURNER.

Like  said, this will be very short, so I'll stop there for now. See you in the next one 👋🏽

I
I'm making a Metroidvania game where you can possess enemies for combat and traversal.

Happy to be of help.
I'll make sure to keep up with your progress.

Nice updates. It plays better now, and the combat is more juicy.

Some of the things I noticed:
- When dashing, the player loses vertical velocity, which makes it possible to dash into hazards, especially when you activate the dash while falling. In other games, when the player is dashing, it maintains the current vertical position. This really helps in precision platforming.

- Using the L1 button as the attack button on a controller is a bit unconventional.

- You might want to check the joystick controls. It's impossible to climb a wall to the top using the joysticks on the controller. The player just slides back down when close to the ledge.

- The hit/impact sound when attacking is a bit delayed.

- After an enemy is dead, you can keep hitting them, and it continues playing the hit sound until the body disappears. I don't know if this is intended.

- I got stuck inside a wall in some part of the map.

Hey, first of all, I actually had a bit of fun playing this.

I wouldn't dwell too much on the cons stated in earlier responses. I'll focus more on the gameplay:

1. The wall climb is buggy. When wall climbing sometimes, the player get slows and start flipping back and forth like it's looping through wall detection over and over again. This mostly happens when you are close to the top edge of the wall.

2. The upward attack sometimes makes double hit, first hit on the swing up and second hit on the swing down. Not sure if it's intended this way.

3. The wall jump is way too restricting. When the player jumps off the wall, it takes too long to take control of the player. This makes it impossible to wall jump vertically on one side of the wall to climb.

4. I'm not really sure how the resource to heal refills.

It would also be nice to add controller support.

That's because you are using the mono build. Download the standard build and your export should work.

The shadows are default point lights from Godot.

That’s a nice looking game you have. I’ll check it out.

Thank you. Did not really have much time to upload a windows build. I’ll also check out your game.

Thank you. I will check it out.
