I haven’t worked with gifs too much either, but when I see them around on other people’s pages, it works really well! So it’s on my list of things to learn how to do too haha - good luck :]

Robotron’s page is SO SICK! Neon colors, cool banner, trippy background, easily visible gameplay footage…I feel like the one thing I would want as a player is maybe a concise and easy-to-find (maybe just right at the top) explanation of the game’s controls so I would know what to expect by downloading it? And there is a LOT of text - feels a little overwhelming for a new player. Maybe hide some of it in a collapsible field, like a Details
(details here, like this)
tag and then call it something like Pre-October Release Text? Then outside of that tag, you can put only the text that would be MOST relevant to a new player to keep it as brief and digestible as possible. This is mostly just my preference for making jumping into a game seem as least intimidating as it can be.
Honestly, similar feedback for Killing Machine Movement. The vibes of the page feel great - saturated and retro - but I’d love it if the less gameplay relevant text was hidden, and a new player could see just the controls. Another way to reduce text is to put the controls in an image or gif that acts as a fun control diagrams! It can reinforce the style of the rest of the page, and reduce text even more! Again, I like the style of both pages a lot - cool stuff :]
Yeah this wasn’t geared to be a feedback thread and more so like just sharing game pages you liked? So not so much getting critique and more just praising the parts of game pages you see (or your own! if you like them!)
But I actually really like your thread for getting feedback! I wonder if a more general feedback for game pages thread exists, I’ll have to dig for it later…
Regardless, I’ll post over there and give my take on your page! Looks fun! But if you have any pages that have something in them that you like or look up to in some way, you should definitely share them here so I can learn from it too hehe :]
I’m also a big fan of game pages with web embeds (at least a demo! doesn’t have to be the full game) and short mechanics-focused descriptions, but I’m definitely a rambler on my own pages …
Big fan of matching color palletes, your game pages do a good job on that too. If you have any specific game pages you like, you should share them!
I don’t know much about writing jams, but music jams are definitely a thing! You might have already seen them, but on the jam page right now, I saw the friendly music jam getting ready to start up and the music composer jam! I’m pretty sure the OST Composing Jam is another recurring one, but I couldn’t immediately find the link.
I’m definitely forgetting others, and I wish I knew of writing jams…I’m sure they happen, but definitely would be cool to see someone start one if they don’t! Would it be like a jam where everyone makes a short story or a poem in a weekend based on a theme, and then maybe you could compile them up in an anthology at the end or something? Honestly, that would be so sick
Another design thing I liked on a page - really like the way this banner on CorgiSpace’s page fades into the main content’s background color! Looks really clean
Briefly chiming just because this is something I’ve also dealt with to a degree - I can’t help with all different sources of anxiety, but one particular anxiety I have with publishing things is like the fear of a project not being good enough. Like if I feel like I should be embarrassed by it or something?
So recently, I’ve tried to frame my creative pursuits as being snapshots of my current abilities, as opposed to perfect projects. Like I’m leaving a trail behind of my progress. For me at least, this has helped take off the pressure of things needing to be perfect :P
Designing game pages can be kinda hard haha, and I’ve been trying to improve and find inspiration. I thought it might be interesting if people share their favorite game pages that they’ve seen! I saw one collection of very cool game pages here, but they don’t necessarily have to be really inventive and unique - just ones you felt like did a really good job selling you on the game or communicating the game’s aesthetic to you!
Some of my personal favorite pages and page design trends (as someone who is not a very savvy itch.io user lol, so take with a grain of salt) are blurry washes of color over a more minimal page (like frogsong and downwards) or pages that match the color scheme/style for games with restricted a palette or aesthetic (like the swamp, this asset pack white scape, and i’m particularly fond of the clean pixel art border on apollo).
As for one REALLY out there page as a bonus (that’s not already in the cool game pages collection I linked earlier, I don’t think), I like pipe a lot with the scrolling indecipherable sidebar and almost completely wordless page.
Also…this is my first time posting a topic in the community, so please let me know if I’m doing something wrong or if this is the wrong place! I didn’t see a thread like this when I searched around, so I figured I was safe to start one, but I could’ve missed something
Malfais!!! You’re on itch??? Good to see you, and thanks for playing <3 <3
Okay so fun story about the controls - I actually had them exactly like you described at first, and someone I knew had the opposite reaction, so I switched it! I’ve left it since I think it’s like closer to how it would actually work, but uhhh you’re definitely not alone lol
Yeah I made the game pretty quickly and didn’t put in any dynamic difficulty…but surprisingly, after messing around with increasing tree speed or forest density as time goes on, i actually kinda prefer it as an endless flight simulator than with any dynamic difficulty?
if i make a version 2, i think there should definitely be a raising difficulty version, though, and the endless flight version could be a separate mode just for me haha (maybe with collectibles and things to find)
i will continue the trend and also say cute game mehehe, very fun :]
i found that i could get pretty far with just upgrading the croissants! might be interesting to make the donuts or cakes more influential? like larger, slower clumps of rats that would be more susceptible to the cake’s piercing, or make the donut’s splat larger and linger for more time to be even better at slowing down waves? just random ideas haha
the graphics and the theming are so lovely though…
this game is gorgeous and mesmerizing, took me a second to figure out what you meant about using the orb for the speed boost, but it just seems to mean shooting whenever an asteroid is across from you so your projectile goes through it! kind of a fun twist hehe
also i hope you enjoyed your gummy skittles
oohhh i hope some people who are much better at first person games than i play this! i mostly play 2d stuff, and i’m kinda terrible at first person things - the movement seems super fun from what i was able to do and i really like the visuals, but i was also struggling just to climb the stairs in the first room when i fell ;-;
again, this is probably just because i’m terrible at 3d first person games lol
okay the animation work here is so so cool, looks so awesome! i’d love some way to play around with modules freely outside of the pressure of dying in the actual game so it would be a little easier to figure out what all the upgrades do, it’s a little unintuitive to me as a new player haha - i just say this just because it seems like there’s some really cool systems in place here that i’m struggling to make full use of!
Ahhh thanks for the compliment, I appreciate you playing!! I’m impressed you figured out the ending haha. This was my first time making a horror game, so a lot of things felt unclear to me - I’m really glad you got to the ending, and it came across!
Also you’re totally right about the box looking like cake lol, but the cake is a lie ;]
