Pretty ominous atmosphere and fancy lighting - cool!

Thanks, I do plan to update this - have just been quite busy right now

Very fun and well polished!

Good stuff! It's certainly fast-paced. Music and art is lit.

Fun game, good progression with the unlocking of new abilities and also good level design (I found myself exploring around a bit which is noice). I am the best square in all of Decatopia :P

Yep there were definitely a lot of games in this jam and so similar ideas too. Thanks for playing :)

Thanks for making a video on it :) It's always interesting to see how people play. We are glad you enjoyed!

Thanks, glad you enjoyed :)

Nice, thanks for playing and the comments :)

Glad you enjoyed, thanks for outlining your experience :). Yes we will make sure the dialouge gets better treatment next time.

Yes, perhaps it could have been made more clear. Technically you win by getting both healths to a particular level rather than 1 of them being defeated.

Thanks for taking the time to play!

Thanks for playing :)

Glad you liked it!

Noice, would escape again

Glad you liked our twist. Thanks for playing :)

Thanks for playing, glad you enjoyed!

Thanks for playing and your comments! Yes most likely we could have made it a bit easier, but this is what happens when the developer tries to balance the game without playtesters lol.

Initially I was expecting we needed to dodge the cars. But I literally lol'd when my expectations were blown out of the water.

Good game.

Hello everyone, we recently completed our game jam game for GMTK 2023. In this fighting game you need to balance your health as well as your enemy through combat.

Dr. MEGA Nerd launched the AI Z.07 a super powerful AI. After the AI goes on a rampage by inhabiting a Mech it angers our protagonist Zilla. Take back your place is the king of monsters and inadvertently save the world.

Feel free to give it a try:

Thanks for your comments and for playing :)

Thanks for playing, glad you enjoyed!

Haha, glad you enjoyed. Thanks for playing!

Wow, thanks a lot! I plan to make more projects in the future so I can keep improving. Thanks for playing and hosting the game jam, I'm glad you got some enjoyment.

Thanks for playing :)

Thanks for the feedback and for playing!

Fair, just fyi there is a new enemy every level and a final boss - but yeah, it needs more depth.

Thanks for the feedback and for playing!

Thanks for playing!

Awesome, glad that you got enjoyment out of our game! Thanks for playing :)

Thanks! For this game I thought "what can I do with the most simple premise I can think of." You noticed everything I put effort into so I appreciate that.

It is a good point about the tutorial text, I will improve this when I add some QoL adjustments in the future to this.

Thanks for playing!

Fair analysis, I think you hit on the major problems in the current game design. For this jam we were focused mostly on exploring a unique graphical style and exploring a new combat system which we could hopefully improve post jam. We basically cut everything else out and focused on polishing that.

We will need to explore ways to improve the feeling of depth and agency in our game in the future.

Thanks for taking the time to write honest feedback and for playing :)

Yeah, if we extended this concept we would definitely lean more into trying to achieve the exploratory aspects of a dungeon crawler and improving combat more. Thanks for your feedback and for playing!

Sounds like you got a pretty exciting boss battle :) Thanks for playing!

Agreed on the point of the game being a bit short. I didn't want the mechanics to overstay their welcome given this is a game concept.

Thanks for playing and sharing your thoughts :) Makes us happy to hear you want a longer version.

Ok, thanks for the detailed feedback. We had limited time to develop this prototype but adding more feedback with clearer animations is a great idea.

Yes, we need to improve the design to add some more feedback. In any case here is the answer.

Thanks for playing! Out of curiousity how many times did you try and what was the closest you got?

Awesome, I have been trying to explore ways to get that ps1 vibe and this helps a lot :) Thanks for the indepth response

Thanks for playing and for the feedback. Yeah we were mostly trying to explore the potential of the battle mechanic and 2d aesthetic. In the future we would for sure add more depth and exploration elements to the game.

Loved the aesthetics in this game. In particular I really like the skeleton battle which forced me to change my tactics using the Aegis. The combat system took a little while for me to understand, but once I did it felt like there was a decent amount of depth. All in all great job.

BTW: how did you achieve the pixelated look in this game? Is it just a low-resolution render texture, or are the textures on the assets themselves pixelated?

Lovely art, it took a bit for me to understand combat but I eventually did
