Well, I'll get back to it again.
Dear itch team, please blacklist comments like this. The "updated version" this link points to contains malicious software that logs your key inputs and scans your computer for crypto wallets, as well as login credentials.
This issue has been going on for months now, and it's only getting worse. It's about time itch takes action against this, instead of standing idly by. I know for many users it's obvious that these comments are fake, but there are people out there that don't know that.

Seems like the issue still isn't fixed. I'm *guessing* the wrapper the itch app uses for whatever browser engine might be incompatible with Cloudflare's captcha system, but like I said, just a guess. It works fine on normal browsers, be it Chromium, Gekko, or WebKit. It's just annoying that my games don't auto-update anymore and I have to download everything manually.
Fifty_Five has already mentioned a lot of useful info, but I just quickly want to add that Avira flags EVERY program/executable that doesn't have a valid certificate. Unreal Engine and DirectX are also completely independent of one another. One is the game engine, the other is the graphics engine used. C++ is a programming and scripting language, nothing unusual. The C++ Runtime Environment is required for a lot of apps, I'm surprised you don't have it installed yet.
Apart from that, Avira is generally not a good Antivirus, and frankly not required because the Windows Defender is way better. If you're scared of a virus, unplug your ethernet or turn off WiFi, install the game and block it with the Defender Firewall so it can't access the internet. Saves you a lot of headaches.
first I have to say this game is amazing so far! This would go hard if it was ever animated. The story is intriguing and well-written, characters are interesting and fun to be around too. Even though it's just the prologue atm, it piques ones interest for future content and what happened and will happen to the mc. Big props to Vorpal for this amazing game, probably the best I've played so far and I can't wait for the remaster
so after over 20 in-game days, I can confidently say this is one of the few AVNs I play for the plot, though there is one thing. I haven't got to that point yet, nor do I know if it's implemented yet but I hope we aren't forced into a relationship with Rachel and can choose to reject her. I wouldn't want her in the group at all and many others probably think the same, so is or will there be a choice like that?
when i played it for the first time (v 0.5) i got so nostalic thinking about sword art online and thought to myself "damn, i really want to have this irl" i mean just imagine deep diving into a game with thousands of others at any time of day. the concept is amazing, great quality, funny dialogue and it actually feels like my choices have an impact on the story
tbh i was pretty sad when you said you couldn't continue the game anymore, thinking back a few months ago when the announcement came up, i kinda hoped it was just a joke, which it wasn't. so now, after another announcement, that you'll continue i was pretty happy. just one thing: don't overdo yourself again. take time for your personal life, friends, family and your career (which i hope is still going good xD).
the directory for the saves are specified in many scripts of renpy and python, so if you changed their location by creating a subfolder in the original location, the game won't find them, since it doesn't know about said folder. try moving them into -as you said- /renpy/saves/lucky.paradox out of the folder you created. then restart the game and see if they are visible. if not, details of what you already did and tried, or changed could help too
that's odd. it seems either the directory that specifies where the save files are stored changed somehow, or you moved them by accident. it's hard to give precise steps for troubleshooting without information tho. i assume you're either playing on android or windows? normally the saves are stored either inside the game folder or a dedicated renpy folder.
