Use AniMicroX and map to a USB or wireless NES controller and it's all good.

I just noticed you are the person behind Mischief Castle. I bought that one some time back. This one will be an amazing multiplayer game. I played a bit of the demo after using some translation software to get my NES type controller to make keyboard inputs. This is gonna be a blast. Reminds me a bit of Joust only better, MUCH BETTER!!
Perfect!! I'd want the digital edition first anyway.
I will probably be using an Analogue Nt Mini Noir with four controller ports.
I use 8Bitdo 2.4g controllers and using all four hasn't been an issue. I have no less than two connected at all times.
The game I had issues with was Sam's Journey and switching from zero delay to fully buffered in the settings fixed it completely. I had it on zero delay as I'd read it helps reduce lag but, I can't say I noticed any difference at all. I don't think it was an issue relating to the mapper and the issue only happened on the Analogue console.
I played a bit of Zombotron Re-Boot before buying this. I used AI to ask if it has controller support and I thought it did based on the answer. I'm seeing a setting tab for controller when one is attached but nothing in the tab and nothing registers. This is an AWSOME game but, I wish it had controller support. If there is a way to fix this, I'd appreciate knowing. I know about controller to keyboard translation software but not having much luck with that either.
Do you expect to have a demo in May or the full game? Do you plan on a cartridge release or just the ROM?
I usually use an Everdrive instead of dragging out my cartridges but, I may want a cartridge as well. I've only bought a few aftermarket games in cartridge format and this one looks like it will be worth buying both.
I REALLY want to play this on real hardware or as close as an Analogue Nt Mini Noir can get to the real thing. I do have a couple other clone consoles using real NES CPU and PPU chips and a MiSTer FPGA setup. I expect at least a couple of those options will run smoothly. I've only seen a couple aftermarket NES ROMs give trouble with the Analogue console and that was fixed in the settings.
You can buy the NES ROM and run in an emulator if a PC is what you want to play on. It runs great in every emulator I've tried. I've set it up in a folder with the Mesen emulator .exe file in the folder with the ROM. Once done, you can right click on the ROM itself and select "Open with" browse to your folder and select the Mesen emulator. Be sure to select "Always" during the process to set Mesen as the default program. Then make a shortcut directly to the ROM file. You can start the game by simply double clicking the game shortcut. It's close enough to a PC port for me. You can do the same with any NES ROM. I make custom icons for my shortcuts so they look like the game they will run.
Are you also using an Analogue NT Mini Noir? If so. and you are running Genesis games, there is a way to get full 6-button controller support by using a SNES controller to NES console adapter and the 8bitdo 2.4Ghz SNES controller. The controller adapter is available at MiSTer Addons if you need one. Please let me know if the fully buffered setting does the trick for you. It really is a good game.
I'm just delighted to have it run properly on my console. If this game had been released back when the NES was the current generation console, it would be in most top ten lists. I rate it in my top five without any reservation and recommend to everyone. I am not a cartridge collector by any stretch of the imagination but, I would make an exception for this one.
If you are trying to play this on an Analogue NT Mini Noir, you must enable fully buffered video mode in the settings. The game displays all sorts of video glitches if it's ran with the video buffer turned to zero delay. I don't notice any lag between zero delay and fully buffered. It's an amazing game so, I'm glad I found the solution to the issues I was having.
Thanks, I got the Second Quest NES rom by buying it here several days ago. I've bought this game twice and still feel like it's worth every penny. It's even better on an upscaled NES such as the Analogue Nt Mini or retroUSB AVS. I prefer the 8 bit version to the PC version. Looking back, I wish I had bought the cartridge during pre-order.
This is a great game. It's a lot better using a gamepad. Unfortunately, using a gamepad without some kind of mapping software is difficult at best. You may want to run AntiMicro software in the background after mapping your keys to the keyboard keys. If using Win 11, use AntiMicroX. These programs are esily found by Google search and are free. You can create profiles and save them. I use it on several games that don't have controller support. The picture below should help with making a controller profile for the game. Are we going to see a Switch port for this one? Inquiring minds want to know and I'm curious myself.

I couldn't wait for NES ROM to be available so I bought it for PC from GOG, from Steam and from itch.io. After missing the pre-order and looking for it for hours online, I FINALLY found a retailer with copies of the Digical version. I LOVE this game. I'm hoping to someday see Alwa's Legacy in an 8-Bit Edition. Another completely new Alwa's game would also be great.
It works perfectly on a real Everdrive N8 and N8 Pro. I've tested it on 3 N8 Pros and 1 N8. Tested on both NES and Famicom versions. I tested all Everdrives in an Analogue Nt Mini Noir. I have had no issues at all. It even runs from the flash card of the Analogue Mini Noir running the jailbrake firmware. Is your flash cart a genuine Everdrive or a clone copy of the Everdrive? It's possible the clones of the N8 won't work.
LOL.. I also bought it on Steam so I would have it for the Steam deck but had already bought it on GOG. I bought it for Switch and Xbox. I bought it on itch.io so I could get the files for Linux. I just now found some Digical copies in stock. It's been a long hunt for a Digical copy but I have them ordered.
I've been scouring the web for weeks looking for a Digical copy. I was just about to drop $60 to get one from a UK seller on eBay when I found it in stock and at retail price here in the US. I ordered two Digical copies and I'll get them next week. I have it on Switch, PC and Xbox. Now I will FINALLY have it for my Analogue Mini Nt Noir.
OH JOY!!!!!!!
