Thanks so much, for both the kind words and the thoughtful feedback.
The system is something I've been working on for a little while, with a number of concepts / settings in mind. I have a bad habit of over writing, so when I saw the LGZJam I was inspired to see how streamlined I could make it while still being legible. Glad that the attempt was successful over all, and I definitely agree about where it's weaker points are. Going to be keeping all this in mind as I flesh it out in other projects.
Thanks again, appreciate it!
Thanks! This is super dorky, but the format was a nod to the paper placemats you used to get at dinners, hence two individual flat sheets. They could also be tri-folded like a brochure, (with only minor wonkiness) and I think during actual play only the one sheet (with Challenge Rolls, etc.) would actually be needed.
So glad you like it. I'd love to have a translated version, and will happily credit you when I post it.
I haven't thought too much about the specifics of the world, but I was picturing something with similar vibes to the Bone comics, if that helps. As for running it, I recommend Mutual Aid Missions for Small Towns by @OneTapAdventures, also submitted to the Mutual Aid Jam. Any of the scenarios in it could be tweaked to be about animal communities, or left as is.
Thanks again, and please share any feedback if you decide to run it. Cheers :)
unfamiliar is a ttrpg where the players take on the role of former magic familiars, who must now venture into the world as a pack of stray animals. Combining a rules light system with a creative, open-ended magic mechanic, the game is designed to promote rich storytelling while still capturing a bit of old-school fantasy flair. A modified depthcrawl system, dubbed a horizon-crawl, also helps to flesh out a world to explore, with an emphasis on using distant landmarks to drive gameplay, and embracing the unique challenges and viewpoint of non-human characters.
unfamiliar is currently in open play-test, and any and all feedback is welcome and appreciated. Thanks!
