hi there! for me, the audio issue indeed turned out to be a lack of a built-in midi engine on linux. I installed the flatpak for Qsynth, went into Setup->Audio->Driver=Alsa and added the default windows soundfont I downloaded somewhere, and MIDI works everywhere on my machine now. someone else on discord didn't have this work for them though, so let me know how it goes for you.
for EasyRPG at least, it has a built-in MIDI engine but might need a soundfont. you can try running it through terminal and see what errors it spits at you, as a different option from installing the general-purpose MIDI engine.
good luck!!
hey emi! I'm so happy to try my first thing by you. immediately I was delighted at your use of color codes, pronouns, and a particular rpg maker track that is very close to my heart. it was fun catching onto the theme around all the characters' names, and "all smiles, right?" hit me quite deeply in its delivery. the narrative structure was beautiful, clean and everything landed just right, leaving me teary at the end. the story you're telling here resonates a lot with some things I believe in, especially at this particular juncture of my life, and it helped me to see a story like this reflected outside of me. your command of storytelling is delightful, and your grasp on rpg maker is amazing for a first shot. I look forward to experiencing more of your amazing creativity.
I deeply enjoyed this! The narrative integration really surprised me - it was a fun story, and the way it wove in to the action was delightful. I enjoyed the light theme of always "moving forward" and the way you connected the antagonist to the alien plants by using the same mechanics for both (perhaps the plants were left by him too!). Fighting those were the funnest part of the game for me! It felt satisfying and dramatic, and put all my skills to the test. The final level wrapped things up so nicely with requiring you to use the boost - I wondered from the start whether that would come into play!
Overall I loved it, thank you for making something so fun and inspiring 💖💖
this was a fascinating experience. you did an effective job at using a simple system to express a broad range of concepts! I felt I was only scratching the surface of it still, I got as far as when I was creating trains. the mystery of the game was appealing to me, but ultimately felt a bit too opaque to develop a true intimacy with it. but nonetheless, it was a very interesting experience that I found affecting!
Unfortunately even on desktop I had low FPS! I played as much as I could still, and I found the discovering bugs concept really fun and rewarding. the characters are incredibly cute, and the narrative concept of being the character within a bugged game is so fun. I would love to see this become a more finished title, everything you have done here is really wonderful!
I really enjoyed the subtle interpretation of the theme here into a genuinely creative and funny narrative experience. the presentation and systems put me into the shoes of the character in an effective way, and I really enjoyed figuring out what item each character might like the best and how to persuade them. the final hypnotizing was too challenging for me, but otherwise I also found it quite fun and to enhance the goofiness of the story. all around it was a great time!
this was really fun! i enjoy the imagery of an 8 ball seeking vengeance, it's really wacky and it lends to the gameplay well! it really feels like the 8 ball is on a rampage through the pool table. I enjoyed the visuals as well, they are elegant and calming and gently evoke retro pc games. well done!
this was a very conceptually rich experience! I appreciate the various interpretations of the theme, such as the loops contained within seasons, cycles of life and spiritual purification. it is a beautiful game, and all the elements felt they worked together to create an impactful experience in synthesis. if your team felt like it, I would enjoy this as a fully-produced game! I myself greatly enjoy matching games such as mahjong, and this felt like a thoughtful and complex experience in a similar vein.
the available instructions gave me some difficulty, but I felt I had mostly grasped the rules after a few rounds nonetheless, having been familiar with similar styles of card game. as I'm sure this is something you're already aware of, I won't go on too long about it. I feel that despite the minimal instruction, the degree I was able to learn them while playing is also a commendable achievement in the design and visual communication.
overall, this is my favorite entry I have played so far from the jam, for its fun, cohesion and unique interpretation of the themes that speaks to me. I would really like to praise your team for all your excellent work! I'll be following you all to keep up with your future work :)
thanks for playing! that's some great and useful feedback. since I might make an additional update, would you mind me asking further about some of your points?
- can you explain what you mean more by the hud? is it that the dark red bar had a confusing purpose?
- that confusion makes a lot of sense! maybe I should add some feedback or additional instruction. between adding an explanation somewhere in the game or visual feedback, do you feel like you have a preference? (also: the red shots are indeed weaker and score less! though not by a lot- I didn't want it to be too punishing)
- i'm glad the narrative side of that boss came through at least! maybe it wouldn't harm the narrative too much to make it a bit cooler :) I was a bit conflicted on it myself!
I'm really glad you enjoyed the game, and thank you for the excellent praise!
yet another beautiful and warm VN by Alixesque! I really like what you've done with Videotome, integrating it into your style of visual narrative.
it's amazing how many wonderful illustrations you did in such a short time, they're full of story and help draw out the emotional color of your narrative.
you do a great job interweaving excellent little tasty bits of characterization throughout your dialogue in a way that's just a joy! if there's one word I could use to describe the writing here it would be "exuberant"! and that fits exactly how I know you as a dear friend as well.
yet again, I love the view of the world your works represent: of effusive love and boundless care blanketing the struggles and challenges of life. I could spend so many words describing how beautiful it is, but if I could send any message it's that I want you and everyone else to know the stories you tell are truly special!
thank you for your amazing art and amazing you Alix!! 💖
