Yeah, we somehow didn't test Rock and Stone after making a change that broke it until after the deadline. I fixed it the same day as the deadline but I obviously couldn't edit the submission. It's fixed in the GitHub version, which also has some fixed animations.
I'm surprised so many people like the art. I'm not really an artist and would've preferred to have a dedicated artist on our team. The art I tried to make passable but had to balance with also making all the code for the game, which included learning a bit of WebGL since I hadn't used it before.
We did a push in the last couple of days to go from 2 modes to 8 instead of making animations.
I then made the questionable decision to add animations in the last few hours while Peter was asleep and couldn't stop me.
Yeah, from what I understand, that's part of Peter's intended challenge in House of Gold. It's expected that you might lose like that. You have to manage making sure you have a bucket available if you pick up any sand and put off using it until you won't be picking up any more sand. The only person so far that I know has beaten House of Gold is my girlfriend. Even Peter and I haven't gotten around to it yet.
Not a bad little platforming game. Definitely reminiscent of Mirror Temple. I was able to beat every level.
I will say; the game felt like it was more about just timing jumps to not get hit and not so much about platforming and I was kinda hoping for some more interesting platforming and/or puzzling. Level design is hard though.
I'm left handed and only use mouse with my left hand. The controls make it impossible for me to play. I generally expect any WASD game with no rebinding controls to at least support Arrow keys.
Peter doesn't have that problem and says that reload (which is pinky finger in a terrible location for me) is also hard for them and we agree that right mouse button would be a better keybind for reloading. Peter says it's fun, but I can't confirm/deny since it's unplayable for me.
There's a bug where if you press R to restart a level while still holding down click, the game still thinks you're moving the appendage. If you let go after having restarted, the appendage will be released/moved without costing a turn, which can be used to shave a turn off levels. Worse than that though, if you release at the same time as pressing R, it won't reset that appendage and will instead leave it wherever it was placed. You can use that to bug next to the finish and win in 3 or less turns, or you can bug directly to the finish, winning in zero turns with a time of 0:00 (having a score of zero also causes other minor problems).

I assume, like other games in the Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality, this game doesn't come with a Steam key unless you buy the game by itself. I was a little surprised seeing that the game claimed to have online multiplayer, which is one of the main reason why I downloaded it, but it seems that's exclusive to the Steam Version, and unless I'm missing something, there's no local AI so unless I manage to have friends over to play (not likely to happen during lock-down) it seems that the only thing I can do in the game is go around the track by myself, which feels a little lonely.
I'm pretty sure I understand the why's of it all, but having a game that's only really fun with other people and I have no way to play with other people seems a tiny bit pointless. If there is AI in the game, and I just haven't figured out how to use it, or if there's a way to play online, please correct me because the game seems like it'd be fun if only there was more than 1 car on the track.
