Good enemy variety and very satisfying slamming my foes into walls >: )

Suuuper fun! As a fellow music lover / game maker this obviously wins a top ratings from me. I thought colouring the different tracks was a great way to implement the requests (and I liked the extra effort of giving them different sprites even though you'd colour coded them).
It reminded me of that app/website incredibox except with actual gameplay put on top!
My only critique would be that disconnecting and reconnect different modules felt a bit finicky at times and didn't work intuitively, although I'm afraid I cant quite put my finger on what would've been intuitive.
Nevertheless great entry and nice take on the theme
ps: glad to see another musical take ; )
wow this is such a strong concept for a game. Super fun, and the chain reaction replicas were so so satisfying to chain into eachother.
I'd love to see this game taken further with a more developed art style and maybe level ratings - I think the idea of limiting number of zoops is exactly right, but maybe different tiers if you achieve really simple solutions!
Anyway, super well done and great idea!
similar concept to https://averyshinycoin.itch.io/g-force-search-and-rescue-moon-operations-in-spaa...
but as a high score kind of game instead. Cool to see people's different takes on a similar idea : )
I really like the art and style of this game but just wish it had a bit more polish when it comes to the gameplay! Moreover, the atmosphere is really really good, so it would've been really great to see a strong opening title, main menu or something which would've made the game play into its strong points!
THIS GAME IS SO AWESOME. I'm in love with this concept and would beee so interested in playing an expanded version of this game.
This version is obviously short, sweet and pretty basic - I still found myself immersed and excited to fill out the song.
The dev in me is thinking about how cool would it be if one could upload their own midi files and play them!
So much potential here, please consider taking this idea further than just this jam.
And if it needs to be said, super super creative take on the theme, well done indeed!
Thanks for the honest feedback it means a lot! As is the nature of a game jam I completely agree that we didn't quuiiite stick the landing. Whilst I think it still manages to be fun and play satisfyingly, I (the dev) could've done with an extra day alone just tweaking how the words generated to make rhyming not necessarily easier, but certainly more intuitive.
If you find the time though, could you go into more detail about what you mean about the UI's double-edged-ness? I'm keen to understand your critique fully and with certainty!
Thanks for the kind words and glad you liked the heart of our game despite its flaws!
I'm glad you were able to get some joy out of it despite not being a native english speaker! If we were to ever move forward in this project, different languages would definitely be something I'd love to implement! And also you're right.. it occurred to us too late that there isn't really a win condition, just a lose condition! Our hope is that Mark Brown's words were wise in saying that fun matters more than anything for a game jam game lol
This game is hypnotic in the best way! I really enjoyed finding the best racing lines and taking turns as tight as possible - oh what a joy it was to traverse a shape with only one face!
My one feedback would be that sometimes it could be a bit confusing seeing traps and boosts on the opposite side of the track, and also sometimes it felt like they came out of nowhere a bit.
besides that, I also enjoyed how the soundtrack developed as you played : )
heya, dev here, glad you liked it! I spoke about it a bit in another comment, but getting the word bank was two pronged
1. Processing a data set of over 100,000 rap lyrics
2. Data set of a bunch of words with their phonemes
3. Grabbing (clean) words from the rap lyrics based on its frequency and Voses algorithm
4. Checking it against the phoneme data set to see if I can detect what it rhymes with.
The data sets were stored as csvs in the game data and then loaded into dictionaries on runtime (hence the relatively long load time for what presents itself as a pretty simple game)
in hindsight I should’ve combined step 4 into step 1 but was too late for that by the time I realised !
that’s the gist of it but if you want more detail let me know 🫵😎
EDIT:
As a point of interest, i believe the occasional hangs people have experienced is when the cross reference fails and the game can’t generate a new word that rhymes (despite my attempts to create redundancy)
