Sorry to hear that. If the message mentioned "termination" it was probably something generic resulting from an abort(). But to be sure, mind confirming the exact message box text that appeared?

Please describe your OS version, hardware and graphics specs. Might be something that jumps out or allows me to reproduce the problem. Thanks.

Edit: Does the game loading bar appear? Example below. How far through the process does it get for you?

Thanks, that extra detail helps.

0.2.9 has a toggle for the Furnace particle emitters on the Graphics tab.

0.2.9 has a fix for start-up on Wayland.

Note that I have only managed to test with Wayland using software rendering on a Fedora 36 VM, and APU GPU hardware rendering on an Ubuntu 20.04 box. No testing yet with Wayland on Intel or Nvidia.

Thanks for this -- much better to have critical feedback than none at all. A few notes and questions to clarify:

Suggestions from others on Discord agree with you that the goals (milestones) are growing far too large in 0.2, and should be broken up. Also similar requests for more production insight and base statistics, as well as better overall war/story integration.

May I know the specs of your integrated graphics? More testing on lower end hardware is definitely needed. Specifically the rendering/buffering/movement issue is not something I can immediately reproduce on available test machines, but it sounds like a bug handling the input event queue.

It sounds like you've had some bad random map seeds, leading to problems like insufficient starting resources to reach remote mining outposts. You may find using the Curated seed button in the new game window a better experience (by default, new games use a Curated seed from a list of known good seeds unless the Random button is clicked).

Please describe the mouse map movement request a bit more? Is this referring to the main game world or the map [M] popup?

Do you prefer to build a lot while paused, or is it due to other issues like the graphics lag? (This is just a question, not any sort of implied criticism -- I had not considered building much at all while paused, meaning it is quite untested. I would like to fix bugs with this style of play if possible.)

Edit: The question about how to see remaining material in mines -- Does this refer to viewing the ore resources in a hill? How is this different to using [Spacebar] on a hill, or using Wifi to monitor a Miner in mid-game? Thanks.

My guess is this is Wayland vs OpenGL+GLEW problem with the game's Linux build, which Wine is masking when using the Windows build.

Need to do some research and get a Fedora box running.

Edit: https://github.com/factropy/factropy/issues/14

If blueprint sharing becomes a thing, a question that remains (for me) is how to encourage new players to try and build first before copying a popular third-party blueprint. There may be no simple answer without straying down the path of artificially constraining yet another style of play, or harming a potential sub-community.

So, keep improving the overall build experience and let the chips fall where they may.

The old comments got swallowed I think, switching to the message board.

If anyone else is having game startup issues, feel free to keep asking. Or jump in to Discord. Someone will be happy to help.

I also helpfully broke it another way, unrelated to the OpenGL context. Today's update should resume normal operations if it was previously launching ok for you.

The Intel graphics driver is too old and does not support OpenGL 4.4. Looks like updating to 20.19.15.4463 may help.

Though Factropy doesn't look super slick yet, we're starting out using some newer OpenGL features.

0.1.41 includes a fix to display a more useful error message on Windows. Hopefully!

That's a generic abort message.

If the game window does not appear at all before the error, or appears empty, then it is possible the OpenGL 4.4 context setup is failing.

You can try running the game binary via command line directly from the Itch.io install directory, which may log more error information.

Can you also describe your system specs, including Windows and graphics driver versions?

The rocket or the game? For the rocket, check it's fully fueled with Hydrazine, at least 5kL.

It all helps, thanks!

The graphics may improve over time. Someday we might even use a texture... I hear those are fancy ;)

Short clip and notes on wifi setup here:

Fair enough! Here's a tutorial:

Factropy  is two parts Factorio, one part Satisfactory, a dash of Supreme Commander and a bunch of loose ideas a certain solo developer failed to mod into one of those games. Perhaps others will also enjoy this mix tape!
