Had to snag cineperc! it was basically 90% off due to a store glitch during a sale. It really pays keeping track of sales on the VI-Control forums, highly recommended.

And yes, it comes down to how you use the libraries you got, at the end of the day. (: Ever learning!

I am not the best artist, but I did actually try a little this time, so I am happy to see you mention it. :D Thank you so much for listening and rating!

Yes, Mark isn't having the best of times, unfortunately. :( I am glad you finally found and visited my submission. Always appreciate your feedback!

Quack! :D

Thank you, and good work yourself! Since I saw you mention MoH, and your submission in the RMX jam (a jam I didn't participate in), I have listened to your submission of that, lovely, and I love the soundtrack for that game and for it's sister console version (frontline).

MGS vibes are never bad! Unless it's S stands for Survive instead of Solid... although, that might have a good soundtrack still, haven't actually listened to it. :o Regardless, thanks for listening and rating!

Thank you very much, I checked out the UT2004 soundtrack, I can def find some similarities. :)

Thank you for listening and rating! :D

Thank you very much, happy to have improved in the quality department as of late!

Since it's been mentioned a bit *scribbles*, more flute in future tracks.

Thank you Lava! (: I probably wanted a Fue in there for the wind in the second track, but alas, I don't have any, so I used the bone flute sample from Medieval Legends. ;) It worked out all the same!

Congrats for almost winning again, you're on a roll!

Wow, thanks a lot! :D The final album, hmmm, it could be very tight this time around, the numbers of submissions that make it in vary, but I'll be happy regardless!

Also congratulations on #6, Chrono Fiend might be my favorite track of the jam, keep making the good stuff! (:

Thank you very much. :) I hope to be able to add even more elements to the mix in the future!

Thanks for listening and rating!

Thank you for listening! I had hoped to finally get juicy score in quality, so mission accomplished!

Percussion used in this are a mix from Spitfire Hammers, Zero.G Elements and cinesamples cineperc actually. :) Quite frankly very varying percussion libraries in terms of style and tone, elements not being a strict percussion library at all ofc.

Thanks for listening and rating!

Thanks a lot Gornemant! Apparently it wasn't THAT creative this time around, but I am happy regardless that the type of track I wanted to do in my head, ended up being so close to what I imagined.

Also, big congrats to the top 10 finish, fantastic work as always! :)

I wanted to add cool effects to the car, but I am not the best artist sadly! :D Thank you, I was unsure how well I'd do in terms of capturing the style I wanted to go for here, according to my inspiration, but I am really happy how it turned out. (:

Thanks for listening and rating! :)

(1 edit)

Welcome to the lone rabbit hole! I am guessing the abrupt stops might be hinting at the track being supposed to loop at that point? I think a fade out would help with getting that across.

Really nice piano tunes, you got quite the serene atmosphere going. Using these kind of beats in your setting is interesting, I think it could work. :) Really like the third track, what a vibe! Like with Kingdom Hearts, I could just chill out in the lobby for a while listening to this, before jumping into the action. Alas, there's no mention of the theme here. While a lost world could be related, as in time has passed, and you're going back in a sense, it's still a bit difficult to find the relation to the theme.

Nice job, hope to see you in future jams!

A beautiful soundtrack that is calm and cozy, and sometimes a bit more funky and upbeat! Even if you hadn't mentioned To The Moon in the description, that's where my mind would've went. I especially like "A Slower Life", it feels so nostalgic, and it is very loopable, would work perfectly for just exploring an area for some time, aaaand... maybe collect some memory orbs? ;)

Tick tock, my heart's a clock
My time is short, I'll grab a glock

Knocking on the door, of all of those that treat me poor
Out they come, out the door, making quite a fearful roar

They make a fuss, the air is tense
Time to kill, in self-defense

Their clock spills out, their time is mine
But time's still short, where next to dine?

Because I felt like it.

I for one really enjoy the vibe in your second track, and we have all kinds of things relating to time in here, tick tocks, big bells, people counting, and an impatient gamer. What more could one ask for in the time goes tick tock jam?

These tracks are bops, and they got your name on it, it's easy to recognize your style, knowing your tracks from other jams. I quite envy you people with your recognizable styles and all of that! Very handy to have, if you want to be hired for actual video games gigs.

Anyway, stellar job! Now make the game. :))

Seems like we both went rather percussion heavy for our submissions! We even both have racing games, haha. :D

I believe I've stumbled upon your page every jam I've partook in now, and I definitely notice improvement! Here you have something unique, with a clear mix, and some fun variation. You captured time travelling well, first track feels like actually racing through a time portal.

Let's keep making music, and improving ever further and further, you and me both! :)

Not long ago I learned about shepherd tones, and here we go with the shepherd groove. Fitting.

I really like how this track comes at me in the beginning. Immediately the theme and setting is captured. The risset rhythms (seems like I'm about to learn something new!) and the tempo modulations make this a very fun and unpredictable track to listen to.

Again, I feel you nailed the theme, you made good use of the time you had to make this, amazing stuff!

You managed to achieve a lot of emotion using the rather limited palette. So Kudos! Fantastic job.

It's always good when the OST tells a story, I can imagine quite a lot of things happening, just listening to the soundtrack, the temples tell of different types of encounters and events. Water temple and fire temple definitely seems like the more dangerous of the bunch! And in the ether temple, the stakes just increased even further, there's a determination in this track, like you're marching towards your greatest challenge yet. I wonder then, in the full soundtrack, will there be some sort of payoff to this march, succeeding this track?

Thank you for an immersive listening, greab job! And cool cover art as well! Best of luck on the game project. :)

Hello once again fellow duck! Good to see you in a jam once again. :)

Started up without reading the title at first, and the first track being a opening theme welcoming me into the game was definitely my first thought here though, love the use of percussion, simple, but complements this upbeat track very well.

I liked the mix of eras, there's a clear distinction, and the tracks, with artistic choices and all, captured these eras very well!

"An Era Of European Enlightenment" is my favorite, I love the instrumentation and how the music dances around, it's good ol' ball going on, and I am all here for it.

If I understood it correctly, these puzzles are not timed? So the theme revolves more around time travelling? I really like your take on the theme, it's different in the good of ways!

Perhaps some of the tracks can feel a little bit too busy for a puzzle game, where you might want something quite minimalistic to leave the brain undistracted. Though since you mention "quick and fun" puzzles, I imagine this isn't a Myst level of puzzles, and more something with just enough challenge to be rewarding, but not enough to make you stuck and grind your gears for hours. So I'd say, in that case, your playful style definitely does the job. Really nice work!

Best of luck in your search, and be careful! Once you start buying libraries, it can become very, VERY addicting. ;)

About the libraries from Spitfire Audio: Spitfire don't really sell their stuff on third party sites, so their own website (spitfireaudio.com) is where you got to go. Unfortunately the 40% on everything sale ended like... a few days ago, so that's a bummer. Unfortunately it could be a while before the next one. One thing you could do is make an account on their website, and wish list the items you're interested in, as sometimes they do a special wish list sale. Meanwhile, if you haven't, you can get BBC Symphony Orchestra Discover for free. It is the free version of BBC Symphony Orchestra Core, the library I used for the brass (and strings etc). You won't get the sound I have, because those articulations don't exist in the free version. But it does still give you an idea of the sound, interface and which instruments are available (a few less in the free version, but most are there).

About the libraries from Zero.G: These can be found on several third party sites, way too many for me to list, don't know much beyond that. So you got to look around, but it's not too uncommon to find a sale on Zero.G's own website.

I hope that helps. I'll try to ping you, if I ever see a sale. :)

Hahah, orchestration is a hell of a thing, lots of the "mix" happens in there, I've come to learn. If you orchestrate well, the rest comes a lot easier. Definitely want to dig deeper into how to orchestrate my music, to get those really clean compositions that the true pros are so good at accomplishing.

Thank you very much for sharing, just the thoughts I were asking for! :)

Be well Colin!

Big congratulations on number 1, well deserved!

Haven't bought any libraries, I see! Really goes to show that you don't buy expensive libraries, and all of a sudden you're good (if anyone even thought that), you have used the tools you have (which sounds great as well) really well, and bam, you get some amazing music.

But if you're feeling like you want some more expansive libraries, this would be a good time perhaps, as they will give you more power to express yourself further, I'd say you're at a good level to really get use out of them. So look at videos, walkthroughs, find out if they're really for you, and wait for sales! There's also a student discount on Spitfire, if that applies to you.

Be well Lava. :)

Hahah, unintentional (sort of) jump scare in second track is 2-0 in other words?

Thanks for the feedback! I actually added quite reverberant booms in the percussion sections on purpose (see those sound clips in the playlist to the right? Yeah...). There is a balance I suppose, between those extra booms, and not letting them bleed into the mix too much, or for too long. Maybe they would be better used if the track gets to breathe a bit after the biggest of booms, so that the tail has ample time to fizzle out. With orchestration that really is one of the big hurdles, isn't it? Trying to have these detailed, big pieces, while avoiding chaos and mud. I'll keep it in mind next time for sure.

Thanks for your really kind comment, and also the feedback! I haven't forgotten what you wrote in discord about giving feedback, *cough, cough*. 8) I'll just shut up, thanks again. :)

Very glad you enjoyed "Don’t Lose Hope"! It was the last track I decided on (almost didn't happen), and the second to last track I made, I only had a few hours to spend on it while being very tired (last jam day crunch, woohoo!), so I am glad it was worth it. :)

The voice I use is "Elven true legato" from Zero.G Atlantis 2. I recommend the Zero.G vocal libraries overall, superb quality, SO much content, and very affordable (and they're on sale quite regularly as well). I very barely touched the tip of the possibilities you can do with those libraries for my tracks.

Brass used is in Spitfire's BBC Core. I use the long cuirve articulation for those big powerful sections (which is most of the brass in these tracks). I also use long SFZ for shorts, since they have a very powerful attack, before fading out into a silent long. These make them useful as more powerful staccato's (no round robins though, so less effective in repetition).

Percussion is a mix of sound files for some extra big booms, spitfire originals cinematic percussion for more reverberant booms, and Hammers (another spitfire library) is the brunt of it! I also use the percussion in BBC Core for certain tracks (especially in the second track where it's mostly BBC perc).

I hope that helps, thank you so very much for the nice comment!

It could be a cute story, maybe I should actually make the game. ^^

Thank you for the kind words!

Hahaha, hurray for silliness! Definitely knew I had to get that track in there somewhere, and yes, it is really a challenge to make goofiness not come at the cost of a track that just sounds weird and incoherent in the end. There's a fine balance. It was the first time I made a track like this, so it was a very interesting experience. You even saved it in the discord chat, full flex. 8)

I was indeed aiming for making up a story with many ups and downs, so making the tracks distinct was important. Hope to see you around for more jams, thank you very much for your nice words!

I am glad the music and story welds together well, I had to sort of go with the first decent sounding thing when I made this soundtrack, no time to waste and all of that, since I had quite many tracks in mind! Glad it didn't mean getting a jumbled and incohesive soundtrack in the end.

Thank you for the nice comment!

Hahaha, actually didn't intend for it to be a jump scare, but it did turn out very loud, so I understand completely. Might just add to the impact of the supposed scene it depicts. ;)

Thank you very much for your kinds words!

Thank you, fellow duck of Song & Harmony!

I had a lot of fun making the tracks, especially the bombastic and happy ones :D I use the tempo changes a lot actually, they are great, but unfortunately, whether a plugin in FL, or my laptop just not keeping up at this point, I can't even test the tempo changes in the DAW anymore, unless they are just a quick bump, and not automated overtime. The crackling in lag is horrendous. I had to export the tracks to hear how it would sound every now and then, which is a painful process, haha. Glad it was worth it!

Thank you! I am glad that track came out well, as I had very little time left to make it, and my brain was destroyed at that point. x)

Thank you! Last OST composing jam inspired me to sprinkle some sounds in there. :)

Movie vs game, your comment made me think about that, and I have my own thoughts on why you are getting that impression listening to this soundtrack. I definitely structed the tracks more for the listening experience in isolation, than how they would be functioning in the game. If you want to share your own reasoning in more detail, please feel free! I think it could be useful, or at the very least interesting. :)

Regardless, thank very much for your kind comment!

Thank you for your comment! "All Your Dreams Will Come True" was my favorite track to make. I needed went for diversity, I tried to capture a wider range of emotions for something of a complete feel to the soundtrack.
