Awesome use of the theme! I think you nailed it when it came to the hidden element, the player side area being lit up, was definitely a good choice, giving the player a bit of time to save themselves when an enemy got too close.

Overall the game was really solid, just needed that extra gameplay and visuals, maybe some more upgrade choices and enemy variation. Well done!

Cool game and ideas. I liked the story and being able to interact with the paintings. This is my first time hearing of MakeCode Arcade and playing a game made in it, it looks really cool and interesting.

Congrats on how far you got and I can see the effort you put into it. I wasn't a big fan of the background music though 😅.

I’m not very familiar with Linux, so I decided to use WSL to run the game. It took a bit of work, but I got there eventually! 😅

I understand that this is more of a demo or prototype than a complete game. The visual style was cool, although there understandably wasn’t much gameplay yet. It would have been great to see how the finished concept turned out.

I’m impressed that you built this without using an engine, and I hope you achieved your goal of improving your programming skills in the process, that’s a win in itself! Congratulations on getting as far as you did!

Fun short game! Good variety in obstacles and solid core gameplay. Just needed that extra polish and levels. But overall cool concept and did well meeting the hidden theme!

Really cool concept! I can definitely see the potential here, it just needs a little more content and polish to feel fully developed. I especially liked being able to choose between different items, as it gave the player meaningful control and fit the jam’s “Free Choice” theme really well.

Thanks for the detailed feedback! I’m glad you enjoyed the variety and humour. The crowding and shelf cheesing are definitely things I’d improve with better NPC counters and balancing. Also, congrats on getting second place!

Thank you for playing! I noticed only afterwards that players found it too difficult by the end. For me it felt too easy but as the developer it gets like that.

I've learned from this jam to get people to playtest the game before and then make tweaks, which I wish I did 😭. Learned all thanks to my little brothers rage quitting...

Ohhh right that makes a lot more sense now 😅

Awesome game! The narrative was so cool, the use of free choice was nicely done as well! For a first game this is incredible, visuals and polish were spot on. Movement felt so juicy and the atmosphere was so cool. The development area had me stunned. Great work on this!

Cool game! Nailed the hidden theme. The freedom of choice after a round was done nicely as well. Switching between the lantern and the visuals behind it was well implemented. A nice variety of different block types, really enhanced the gameplay. Only feedback I can think of is maybe some more audio feedback and background music would be nice. But overall a fun and interesting game!

Interesting but simple game... Narrative was really cool how you expressed your thoughts on freedom of choice. I liked how I kept getting tricked, thinking a certain door was the obvious choice. Very simple gameplay but the theme was there.

Loved the goblin characters they were so cute! I really enjoyed the audio aspect, I think the way the player can utilise the audio to identify where the goblins are is very unique and I haven't really experienced something like that before!

I would say that maybe more indication on where the goblins were could of helped, I don't know if it was just chance or design, where the last goblin felt so hard to find, I wasn't a big fan of that, I thought as though it just got a lot more difficult and I just wanted to progress.

I think a cool idea would be utilising the firefly effect, to highlight a broad area of where the goblin is or just a random point near the goblin, sometimes this felt like it was the case, although that could of just been luck.

The upgrade system felt really rewarding, I almost always went with the hearing upgrade, since that part of the game I enjoyed most. I think it was a bit too easy when it came to the torch dying out. Maybe you could of limited the amount of campfire use, so that the campfire dies down as you refill the torch.

You were spot on with the themes, with the hidden goblins and the free choice of upgrades. Overall this was really fun to play!

Interesting game, had a lot  of fun playing it. My keyboards arrow keys are really small so it was a bit of a struggle, but that's not a fault of yours.

The WASD for looking around did help in some levels, but I think it helped a bit too much, making it a lot easier to find the hidden gem, I think without it, it could of forced the players to learn from their mistakes more or maybe some sort of cap on it, or cost, like reducing more time that you have left.

I didn't play all the levels but the ones I did, the exit is where the player started, which worked well, but for some, you could of placed it in different areas, to force the player to go to, since sometimes I was able to just avoid them.

I really enjoyed the strategic element of placing creates to help reach the goal. Overall the game was really well put together with just some small things that could be tweaked to bring it to the next level.

Loved playing this game, I like games that frustrate me but still keep me engaged. The visuals were spot on and the audio really tied it together nicely. I haven't played jump king before and this is the first time I've played a game like this, it felt really creative but I couldn't get passed a certain point no matter how hard I tried. I think that might just be because I wasn't too sure how to use the gun properly.

I loved how you used the bugs as mechanics, It was hard to get a hand on at first but when I did I felt a lot more in control. I didn't make it to any upgrade spots, maybe just because I'm too much of a noob ahaha. Or because they were smartly hidden. Despite that I really enjoyed it!

Thanks so much! I'm really glad you liked the visual style. That's fair feedback about the spinning mechanic, I originally wanted it to play a bigger role, but with the game jam time limit it ended up being simplified. Thanks again for playing!

Thanks for playing! Glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it.

Really awesome game! I loved the photos of you playing all the characters, they gave it a lot of personality. It took me a little while to get used to aiming with the cylinder, and it became especially challenging when I only had one or two bullets left. Great job overall!

I really enjoyed playing this! It was a bit difficult to get used to at first, especially when learning how to fling the character. I think it could have benefited from some kind of indicator or prompt to show when the player where to press E, as that wasn't immediately obvious. Once I got the hang of it, though, it was a really fun and challenging experience. Overall, great job!

The combat felt really satisfying, and the music did a great job of setting a serious, immersive tone. From your game page, it looks like you weren't able to fully complete the project, and in the current version I couldn't quite see how the jam theme was incorporated. It may have been something you intended to develop further through the story or later gameplay.

It's a shame you couldn't finish it, because the game feels like it had a lot of potential. Even so, there's a solid foundation here, and I enjoyed what was included. Well done for taking part in the jam and putting your game out there, I hope the experience was a valuable learning opportunity!

This was a really cool game! I struggled a bit at first to figure out how to play, and I found the lack of checkpoints a little frustrating, especially when I had to restart after making progress. That said, once I got the hang of it, I really enjoyed the experience. Overall, it's a fun and well-made game great job! :)

Thanks for playing, glad you liked the style! And thanks for the feedback :)

Thank you for playing and the feedback!

Incredible game! The visuals and creativity really stood out, and I thoroughly enjoyed every moment. It genuinely felt like I was playing through a dream. My only criticism is the lack of checkpoints during the antenna section, it nearly made me rage quit! Despite that, it's an absolutely fantastic, high-quality game. Great work!

Thanks for playing and for the feedback!

I wasn't sure how to improve the UI text during the jam, but I've since learned that rendering the UI at a higher resolution with a separate viewport fixes it. I'll definitely use that in future projects. Thanks again!

Thank you for playing, glad you enjoyed!

Really polished and fun game! The leaderboard was especially impressive, and the overall quality of the game was outstanding, particularly considering the time limit. Below is the best score I managed to get! The game did crash a few times, but that may have just been an issue with my machine. Great job!

Really addictive and fun game that incorporated the theme really well. I had a great time playing it, and it had such a relaxing, chilled vibe throughout. Great job!

I liked the art style and the use of the theme within the gameplay. Although I did struggle trying to figure out how to complete the game. It could of done with a tutorial scene or some kind of indicator. It could of also done with some extra juice when throwing the cheese, like some sound effects or something. Overall a good use of the theme and solid game overall!

Simple but fun game. I had a lot of enjoyment playing this game. I think the levels were very creative and clever, I struggled a lot on some of the levels but I think that added to the enjoyment.

I would say that the game would of benefited from some sort of drag indicator to give the player a feel of which direction they were going in or maybe a good idea of where they'd end up. At first I had to just get a good feel of the movement to make it past the levels which took some trial and error.   And just some simple things like sound effects and music would of juiced the game up but overall a nice game!

Loved the characters (especially the sketchy guy) and dialogue and the atmosphere really came together. Really creative and fun, the gameplay was a bit minimal but overall a solid game!

Simple but fun game. Really liked the art style and music :)

Thank you!

Thank you for the feedback! Getting the game to feel balanced was really tricky and took a lot of adjusting. I still don't understand why the music doesn't loop In the web version, I had the same issue with my last game, but I didn't have enough time to fix it, maybe next time... I'm glad you enjoyed!

Thanks for playing!

Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed!

Thanks!

Thank you!

Thank you for playing. I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Very fun game! Loved the OS style, very original and enjoyable. Would play again!

Very nice and unique graphics, controls were tricky at first but that made the game more fun! Very repayable as well, I couldn't stop myself from playing until I reached the $300. The announcements were really immersive and creative. The shop could of been a bit larger with more space between aisles or something because I found myself having to slow down to reach items, but other than that I really enjoyed it.
