Would love to get your thoughts on Bad Dog! https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-14/rate/3846570

edit: scale/aspect ratio goes crazy.. sorry

I really like the concept here, and the art style / music is amazing! I got through the maze pretty quick (luck I guess lol), so would have appreciated a bit more content, but honestly the level of polish you got to with a week jam as a solo team, that's pretty impressive!

My feedback would be:

- Player controls felt a bit weird when pressing W+A at the same time, It felt like I kept getting stuck. Also it was a bit difficult to jump, I think it was an issue with doing it while running? not sure

- Physics was a bit janky with the boxes/walls, nothing major but could use a little tuning

- Agree with others, the intro is cool, but way too long. My suggestion would be to only stick to 2 intro screens (your logo, game logo), and then move all the controls info to a seperate screen (accessible in UI + game if possible)

- Add a volume meter, everyone's audio settings are going to be different and the music was very loud for me by default

Thank you! I'll review/rate yours as well! https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-14/rate/3846570

Bad Dog is a 3D adventure game where you play as a sneaky dog raiding their house for snacks, but not all snacks are good for you, some make you sick or sleepy and breaking any furniture leaves evidence for your human to find.

Will review/rate anyone who reviews/rates Bad Dog!

Cool idea! Probably the best feeling driving controls I've played this jam. My one suggestion would be to tweak the car FX, it's really screeching, lol. Otherwise fantastic game!

For your 2nd 3D game this is pretty good! I'm not too worried about the controls because you can easily tune those. The art and level design is solid, I'd just add some sound effects and tune the controls a bit and this would be really fun!

This is amazing, the art, music, story, sound effects. I'm impressed with the amount of polish in a 7 day game jam, great work all around!

Really digged the art style, good job!

I don't see a lot of racing games in game jams but you did a really good job. Controls are a bit difficult, but unique and fun, and the level design is great.

Fun game! I really like the art style. The dog is really cute lol

Should be fixed now, thanks so much for noticing that! We were still adding sound effects at 5am and that seems to have been the culprit lol

This is really fun. I love that the helicopter blades detach and fly at you if you erase the body. Some music would have been nice to have but otherwise it was great! Good job.

Great game! It’s a well made and enjoyable platformer. The controls took a bit to get used to, but once I got the hang of them, it was really fun playing with the eraser mode.

I really really love this one. It took a bit to figure out the controls (a tutorial would be nice!) but after I figured it out it was really fun. The shop had a nice layout and I see where you were going there! The only minor bug I noticed was my volume settings not carrying over from the main menu, otherwise everything worked well! Great submission.

Great game! I agree with Jack, a multiplayer version of this with a larger map would be very fun. I still enjoyed it in the current state but did find the intersect lines / continuous lines issue a tad distracting :/ I was so excited when I erased the AI's line and finished mine but it didn't count :(

Really fun game, and a lovely level design. I tried to use the controller controls, but the right trigger didn't seem to work :(, but the keyboard controls were straight forward! I really like the extra detail of you mowing the grass if you go over it again haha. Great game!

Nice game! I really liked the shift from 2D to 3D, it was very cool, but as others said the perspective felt a bit odd which made jumping difficult. Otherwise I really enjoyed it & nice touch on speeding up the music :)

This was very fun! I definitely had some lag as others have noted, but it wasn't too too bad (and also what I spent the last few hours of the jam trying to fix for mine lol, WebGL is hard..) Great game!

Really fun idea and visual design. My only gripe is the rotation felt a little too “off” - I think that was part of the fun, but at the same time it felt a bit too difficult to navigate. That was my only issue though, otherwise an excellent game!

lmao what a good idea and execution! My only feedback is that I agree with the other commenter, the key presses felt off, and my first run through I had to restart because I couldn't move at all (just slammed into the wall at the start). But a restart fixed it for me! Great idea, and visual design, good work!

Every time I play games like these, I end up so impressed. The art style, music, and environment are just so nice and polished. Wish I was as good at that, haha. But great game, honestly. I had a bit of trouble at first until I realized the fallen trees don't help with the drones. Good work!

This was fun, and definitely a unique idea! My only issue was that when playing 1 vs. AI the AI would frequently create and island with us both on it and I'd have to restart. I switched to 2 vs. AI and that was a lot more enjoyable, great work!

I agree with the other comments, def needs more levels! (Which is more of a compliment than a critique!)

This was a very fun game, the art and sound design was super clean and polished, good work!

Thanks for checking out Grindline! This was a very fun game to build. We teamed up with a few friends who are pretty new to game dev and it was so cool to see how much they picked up over the week! Excited to do another jam with them soon ;)

thanks for checking out Grindline! :D

Can confirm an auto clicker does not break this game haha

Great idea to combine a clicking game with rougelike elements, really fun!

Wow, I love the intro scene!! Really nice art style and atmosphere. Super cool to see the finished product after following along on Discord!

Yeah, that game over mechanic was super sick, great idea! Music and level design was fantastic, great first submission!

Cute but brutal lil game, I agree with others that some more “instructions” or feedback to indicate what was going on with the plant would have been nice. But I still figured it out! Great art design!

I really enjoyed the atmosphere and design on this one! The puzzles were a very good difficulty to start and slowly ramped up as you went :)

Would love to see more from this game!

Great music and art! It fit the theme really well - the chicken's kept coming back lol.

I agree with others comments, the art style was good but the design of the houses was a bit odd, plus it would have been nice to animate movement that is in both direction (up/down + left/right)

Great game! Would love to see it again when you add more quests.

hello america!

Good art, a few bugs and slightly confusing mechanics, but I enjoyed it!

The water doesn't seem to refill when its very close to empty (but not totally)? I'm not sure if this was intentional or not, but it'd have been nice if you could use it at will, even if half full.

Really enjoyed being able to change the music and the fertilizer combinations :)

Not much of a rythm gamer either, but I really liked the music and art. It would have been nice to have a volume setting though, I ripped my headphones off the first time I started it haha

I'm not sure the first level is beatable haha, granted I am not very good at platformers. The theme tie in is pretty fun and makes it pretty difficult. Music and art style are nice and clean. A few suggestions:

  • Start the game out a bit easier - I played for ~10 minutes and I still couldn't get past the first level, not sure what I'm doing wrong on jump timing.
  • Add a lives feature instead of dying and going back to the main menu - it would make the game feel a bit more intense once you're at 1 life left. It saves a bit of clicking if you suck like me lol.

Good job!

re: aspect ratio, it looked good on my machine, I'm sure there are some settings you can tweak to help support different window sizes

Really fun game! This makes me want to do a Tower Defense game at some point. The only thing that was confusing was the WASD controls. It took me till about halfway through the game till I realized I could move around the map. (which I really like btw!)

Thanks so much for the review! We went ahead and enabled full screen, so hopefully that issue is resolved for everyone.
