Thanks for the feedback! I think you have really valid feedback about giving context earlier, it's certainly hard to grasp what has happened to the world early on, and we definitely could have put some more obvious storytelling elements in the first half or so. Still, I'm very glad you had fun and I appreciate all of the kind compliments! :)

Thank you! I understand not being able to get very far as this game is definitely more suited for those familiar/good at platformer games. Still, I very much appreciate you playing the game and the complement! :)

Similar to what the other comments are saying, my biggest request would be to add an in-game/interactive tutorial that explains while you play. As someone who doesn't play card games often, it's difficult to read all of the text in the how to play without the board visually in front of me, then difficult to remember how to play once I do hit the play button. Otherwise, the art, sound, and music are very good, and the idea of a card game is good for scope considering our time limit. With a little more polish, the game will go from great to fantastic! Keep up the good work!

I think you guys have a good foundation here, and I do hope you keep working on it, because with some more time and polish this game could be fantastic! I like the story and 2D art the most out of everything included, but you guys still did a good job with everything here. Keep up the good work!

With some more time to cook, this game could certainly be something special! It's not bad at all in its current state, but definitely needs polishing in both menus and gameplay. As another comment suggested. You've still done well for the time period given. Keep up the great work!

This is a very cool concept for a game, and I like the different minigames for each level. Right now it plays very well, and I didn't have many problems. My only recommendations would be to polish the game up a little more in menus, text, and UI, and maybe make swimming with A and D smoother as the sharp movements hurt my eyes a little bit. Overall great work and I hope you keep it up in the future!

You've done a really good job here! The gameplay is fun and the art is charming. With a little more polish and time, I think you'd have a very impressive game on your hands!

This game has a lot of charm and a very interesting plot line that compliments its gameplay well. The only issues I had while playing was some of the hitboxes and climbing was difficult, and with a little polish these issues will be fixed. If I had to recommend one thing to add, I'd love if the character was animated, which would also help with knowing the size of the player and what action they're currently doing. Still, the game is in a great state right now, keep up the great work!

This is a really neat game with a good core mechanic and art that fits very well. You've done very well here for the short time we had!

This is definitely one of the most impressive games I've played in this jam! You guys did very good with the visuals, the minigames are fun, and the story is interesting. My only recommendations would be making the in-game font more visually appealing/fit the aesthetics better, and add some polish to some of the minigames (interact with the main computer buttons give visual/audio feedback when pressed, give better aesthetics to the redirect power minigame, etc) but overall you guys did fantastic. Keep up the great work!

This is a really nice little hidden object game! The gameplay is clean and makes sense (good job on the tutorial/how to play section!), the art is very good, and there is a lot of good information in the game. The only thing I would change is maybe try to strike a better balance between climate information and gameplay. You don't want to overload the player with information and the pop ups after finding each item got in the way a little bit. Still the game is quite good and you guys should be happy with it!

As the other comments have already said, a tutorial for what to do/where to go at each stage of the game would be very useful. To me, the art was the standout part of the game, but I can see where the base of the tower defense mechanics and I think that they could be expanded/polished in the future. Overall this is still a cute little game that just needs a little polish around the edges. Keep up the good work guys!

This game has a lot of potential! The writing and art are great, and the world you've built is pretty convincing. I'd say the first thing you should do on if you continue working on this game is polish the game up in various ways. Make the title screen all pretty, make sure the gameplay looks and feels consistent, and that the player can't fall off the map in any scenario (I managed to do it by walking right after talking to the creature). With some polish, I think you could have a great game on your hands :)

Like the other comments have said, a tutorial is urgently needed. Though I can't figure out how to play the game, the art style and described idea are very cool and you should definitely continue building on this project in the future to add features like a title screen, tutorial, multiple levels, etc.

As the other comments have already said, this is a really neat game with a lot of potential! There's room for some polish by adding features like dialogue skipping/allowing the player to continue before the voice acting is finished, making sure all of the voice acting is the same volume, and background music. Also if you were able to fix the stretching of the camera when fit into long boxes that would be a very nice visual change. The creativity of the comic book style is definitely the highlight of this game, and you should be very proud of it. Good work here, keep it up in the future!

This is a really nice little game! I think the story you told is very good and the writing was beautiful, definitely the highlight of the game for me. Like the other comment already said music would be a great addition, and I would personally like the addition of art made for this game but I understand the work load that would bring considering the amount of backgrounds there are. Still, this is a great little visual novel you've made :)

Thanks for the feedback! You have some really good points here. Originally the game had dialogue scroll on a timer as the only option, but it was too slow for many players, so we added the dialogue skipping, but it makes sense that when button skipping is available, timer skipping should be disabled - very good call. And I really appreciate all of the kind compliments! That's what makes us feel proud of our work :)

While I love the concept and the graphics do look quite good, the lack of a tutorial makes it feel like there's not much direction and I don't know where to go next/what I can do as a player. The sensitivity was also very slow for me and the settings and exit buttons didn't work for me so I'm not sure if the option to change my sensitivity was available or not. Still, the game looks great and with a little polish could be fantastic. Keep up the good work guys!

This is a very cool concept and from what I can see, looks pretty cool! I wish I could play it! A single player demo/trial version would be very useful so I could rate how the mechanics feel and see the world for myself, but still what I've seen has looked promising. I hope you can make the game more accessible in the future or allow people to self-host in some capacity. Still, good work and I wish you guys all the best going forward!

If you can, please update the game page to include an exported and playable version of the game. If you do, I'd love to come back and play the game to give a more accurate rating.

This is a cute little game with very charming pixel art and characters/dialogue! I'll say your how to play text did help but an in-game tutorial is a necessity if you continue work on this game. Another thing I'd say it would be nice to know whether the flood or the storm is coming first, another thing that might be discoverable through the dialogue. I had to play through it a couple times to get the order down. Still you have a great base here for adding more levels and puzzle types, great work!

You guys have done really well here, and I commend you for garnering the most attention out of any game in this jam. The art was definitely the most standout part of this game to me, and I want the artist to know that their art is super cute and I loved it! I'll say the gameplay was a little rough around the edges in my experience, but the core concept was good and I liked picking up new abilities throughout the game. If I had to pick one thing that I'd recommend working on, it would be the level design, as some of the gameplay felt easy and fun while other parts of gameplay felt difficult and frustrating. I'd recommend working on the difficulty curve and focus on making gameplay sections fun instead of precise. Still, you've made a great game here, and I wish you guys the best in the future!

I'm really glad you had fun with the original rocket arm (it's my favorite way to play too!) I'm glad the polish felt good to you as it was a very big focus point for us and I think the phase where the game really came together. I'm happy you had fun with it and very much appreciate you playing! :)

I'm super glad to hear it! Tweaking difficulty was a big part of our polish phase so we're glad it turned out just right for you :)

Thank you so much! I'm glad to hear you had so much fun, that makes all the work worth it :)

Very interesting game you have here! You've done quite well considering the time limit and the variety of games you've added. I agree with you that it is a shame you weren't able to get any music, and the game would have been more polished as well if you were able to add options like sensitivity controls, etc. Still you've done a great job, good work!

Thank you so much! It's really nice to hear positive feedback like this, and although unintentional, in retrospect I can definitely see the Joja Mart comparison lol. I'm very glad you had fun with it, thanks again!

Great work here! The art style and atmosphere are definitely my favorite parts. I missed the tutorial the first time I played and was a little confused lol, but after reading through the comments I replayed and had a much better time. I will say I wish I had a little more fine control of the temperature station though, as sometimes one button press always overshoots or undershoots the exact target. Still the game loop is pretty satisfying and the atmosphere you've created is spot on. Great work!

Considering your situation I'd say you've done a pretty good job! Some of the planks can come out of nowhere and guarantee end your run but that may be intentional as you said the game is supposed to represent how abrupt climate disasters are. Still, the game has a pretty nice gameplay loop and the wind was an interesting mechanic. Keep it up and you'll only do better in the future!

While the game looks great, without a tutorial I unfortunately just don't understand what's happening, what actions I can take, and what my goal is. I won't rate the game yet because I essentially haven't played it, but you want to explain how the game works, I'd love to go back and give it a try!

Edit: I was able to retry the game and I can see the mechanics/idea of the game much more clearly. I think an in-game tutorial is still necessary as I was still confused about a couple small edge case mechanics. Still, the game looks great, the idea is there, and I think with some polish you could have a great game on your hands! :)

This game tells a great story in a short time with fantastic art and writing to match! Visual novels are great storytelling devices, but I would have liked a possibly more complex story with more than one ending, possibly if you don't help anyone along the way you get a worse ending. I agree the project is finished, but more polish like sound effects and voice acting would help the atmosphere tremendously. Great work and I hope you keep it up in the future!

Thanks for the feedback! I'll say getting the theming across was definitely our weak spot, but I'm glad you enjoyed the game otherwise! I appreciate the kind words :)

I'm very impressed at the amount of polish this game has! I appreciate the details you put in like the salesman poofing away. I'll say that the sprites having differently sized pixels threw me off a little bit concerning the art style, and I couldn't tell if there was an objective other than just explore and farm to your hearts content but I think you definitely have a solid base and the game has a lot of room to expand. Keep up the good work!

This is a nice little game, and I see the carnival game inspiration! Small details like an indicator/color change to know which mode you're in, making sure the pipe can't aim downwards, etc would make the game feel a lot better. Otherwise, you have a good base here and hope your future work goes well! p.s. the losing sound is very fun :)

This is a really cool game! The writing was very good and almost made it feel like I was reading a book. The decoration and environment design was very nice, and I liked the detail that NPC dialogue would change depending on what character you had equipped at the moment. It was a little hard to tell where I was supposed to go at times, and I unfortunately got stuck after Mateo joined my party. Still you've done really good in the short time period we had, and hope you keep polishing the game in the future to add missing polish such as sound effects and music. Keep up the good work!

This is an interesting take on the theme! I enjoy the idea of a 2D and 3D game mix, but unfortunately I'm not sure how well it works here. The perspective is a little hard to work with, which may have been fixed by giving camera control to the player. As the other commenter said, starting from the beginning is a harsh punishment and if you did ever revisit the project should be at the top of your list to fix. Still, I respect the effort and think you wrote a great story to back the project. Keep up the good work!

Unfortunately I'm not able to access all of the content in the game right now, and I'd love to get help if possible getting past the first enemy. Getting only 1 Sapling currency per turn (which means at max placing one unit) is very difficult especially when the enemy AI can place more than one unit per turn. Still, the aesthetics are very nice, and I like the addition of the beginning cutscene and short tutorial! I hope you guys keep working on the game because it definitely has a lot of potential!

This is a really neat game! I think the aesthetics, music, art, and tile-based gameplay complement each other very well. The gameplay concept itself is also really interesting, and I think it works well in scope and execution. The animations for each ability are very cool as well and I appreciate the level of polish that went into this game. Although I appreciate the connection to the California Wildfires, I would have liked to see more of this connection/theme exploration in-game. If you guys keep working on this game, I'd recommend adding a short narrative with a few levels that have different sizes or tree/smoke placements for some variety. Great work!

Thanks for your feedback! I'm glad you were having fun with the game until the end! In terms of theming, we did struggle to portray our theme intentions in-game and definitely think we could have been more clear/tackle the concepts better.  I appreciate you calling it out, and we'll definitely keep that in mind when continuing development. We aimed for the player to notice the environmental damage visible when BluEyes is off, such as the smog filling the sky, but we should have tackled the topic more head-on for sure. Either way, I very much appreciate your comment, and thank you taking the time to play our game!

Thank you so much! It's really reassuring to see that we solved most of the issues you had with the game and reading this comment definitely put a smile on me and my partners face. I appreciate you being super involved with BluEyes' development and the game is certainly better because of your feedback. Thanks again, the game wouldn't be as good without you!
