OMG thank you so much! I thought this thread was dead lol

(1 edit)

The graphics are cute and love the lore you wrote for each sprite.

The music and art go well together

Love how you used cloud & building for the upper/lower pipes of Flappy Bird. Fits the theme

Already commented in the game page, but I find it innovative/interesting how you've integrated things!

fun like clicker games and cute art UwU

Interesting how you've integrated different AI tools to different aspects of dev!

Fun & addictive like those clicker games. The art is cute UwU

Thanks!

Thank you so much for your support! And Slay the Princess is an awesome work. I do like replayable ones with weird twists :)

Aw thank you! Hope to see you around too!

Hello!

I'm just wondering if there is a Discord or something where we can promote the submission we made.

I noticed that none has received a rating yet.

Thanks!

Hey all! So I made a multi-ending VN: https://buttoncupcake.itch.io/0808-2018-a

It's a story with a deeper meaning: read this walkthrough (with SPOILERS) for the meaning.

I would like your opinions as players/readers on whether you think it's good as it is or there are more story events you think I could add to make the meaning more complete.

I initially planned to expand the demo from the DEMO SPECIAL ENDING, but if you have other views about this, feel free to let me know!

No need for complex feedback, just simple thoughts about what more you expect (if applicable).

DISCLOSURE: This work is part of school projects to leverage GenAI for storytelling. The story text and interface/cinematic design are entirely human-made. Only the visuals and some sounds are from AI (Stable Diffusion mainly).

Walkthrough posted. See the game page.

Some hints: https://buttoncupcake.itch.io/0808-1718/devlog/1451920/the-truth-spoilers

Aw... I see. Know any Youtube content creators who do play more text-based works?

(2 edits)

As the title says, I've rarely seen streamers play purely text-based works, but some of them have great stories. Does anyone know any streamer who does play text-based works? Or Youtube content creator?

I guess this one? https://itch.io/jam/ai-browser-game-jam/entries

Note about the theme (SPOILER ALERT)

It's a spoiler but my work is the story of an actual person trapped in a machine (game) AND it's also metaphorically about a person living like a ghost in a machine (society).

I submitted this as the deadline is near but feel free to remove it if the theme doesn't fit!

(1 edit)

Hello,

This jam looks so cool. I just have a question about the theme as it can be interpreted in different ways. The way I see it, Ghost in the Machine can mean:

1. AI having consciousness

2. a more metaphorical interpretation of someone feeling like a "ghost" in a machine

3. a more literal interpretation of an actual ghost/soul (of a once human) trapped in a machine

Does any of these work?

Thank you!

Hey! Glad to hear from you too! Been busy lately XD

Thanks for the support! Let me know if you have any questions!

Artifact #: 0808-2018-a

Description: Artifact #0808-2018-a appears to be a visual novel titled The Tower developed by Dr. [REDACTED]. It was found in Dr. [REDACTED]'s quarters, where Dr. [REDACTED] was last reported to have been seen on 07/08/2018.

Interviews with family and friends suggest that Artifact #0808-2018-a was inspired by Dr. [REDACTED]'s travel in [REDACTED] Desert. Agent [REDACTED] has noted similarities between Event #0808-2018's site and the [REDACTED] Desert area that Dr. [REDACTED] used as inspiration for Artifact #0808-2018-a. As such, we have reasons to believe that Artifact #0808-2018-a is linked to Event #0808-2018.

Artifact #0808-2018's content is a multi-ending story centered around a protagonist waking up in a fictional world, near a tower said to grant wishes. The protagonist must navigate the world to find out the reason for their presence there.

Artifact #0808-2018-a combines Dr. [REDACTED]'s surreal dreamscapes, interest in game mechanics, and various art styles to convey personal reflections on the cyclical nature of life and various social issues.

ACTUAL CREATOR'S NOTE

Hey all! It's the (real) creator Button Cupcake here.

This is the second work in the 0808 series (set in the same universe).  YOU DO NOT NEED TO HAVE PLAYED OTHER WORK(S) IN THE SERIES TO PLAY THIS ONE.

This is still a demo, but it already has 6 endings. It's a bit of a puzzle game as choices, dialogues, and endings are unlocked based on prior plays' endings AND the current play's choices so far.

It is also a part of school projects to leverage GenAI for storytelling. Though the story text and interface/cinematics design are entirely human-made. Only the visuals and some sounds are from AI.

I would love to hear (read) your feedback (no need to be detailed), just simple thoughts about the story, how everything (e.g., choices and visuals) comes together. Especially if you're a streamer or influencer, let me know if you ever decide to make a stream/vid of this.

Thank you so much!

For best experience, feel free to turn on the audio!

If you delete data ("Reset progress and quit") in preferences, you will need to refresh the browser to play again. YOU DO NOT NEED TO RESET TO GET DIFFERENT ENDINGS. Actually, you NEED your progress to get new endings. So, DO NOT RESET in that case!!!

Feel free to contact me (e.g., comment here) if something is not working.

Incident #: 0808-1718

Description: this incident occurred in 1718, near N[REDACTED], Bahamas. A Fioncit Royal Navy ship set sail to retrieve the Book of Dreams (E-0808-a), an artifact said to be made by the gods and to be able to fulfill one's deepest desires. Months later, the ship returned empty, without its crew nor any remains of them.

Note: we have recently recovered the Captain's diary. We thought this would shed light on the fate of the crew, but it only brought more questions. We would like your professional opinion on this matter.

Was all this an act of gods or an act of Man?

Thank you for your aid.

Regards,

B. C.

Note from creator (might contain spoilers):

Hello all!

This is a multi-ending (6 endings) text-based work and start of a series I'm making.

It started as one work out of a series of school projects, where we were required to combine GenAI with storytelling. Though only the graphics are made with GenAI. For this work specifically, that means only the cover/banner is GenAI-made.

~~~~~~~~
SUMMARY WITH SPOILERS
0808-1718 is a multi-ending (6 endings) text-based historical science fantasy fiction (no sound or image within). It explores themes like the emptiness of human desires through the game endings, text formatting, and choices.
~~~~~~~~

I'd love to hear your thoughts about how the endings/formatting/choices come together with the story's hidden meaning. No need to be detailed. Feel free to just comment on the game page.

If you're a streamer or influencer, let me know if you ever decide to make a stream/vid of this.

Thank you so much!

Not yet. I'm having some trouble accessing Discord. Will try later!

Got it! Thank you.

I'll do lots of manual editing on the AI assets too :)

Hello!

I'm just wondering whether our game can contain AI-generated visuals and sounds if the story and the game design are made by me.

Thank you.

Really enjoyed this! Loved the combination of realistic characterization and colorful visuals! This might start with a breakup, but the story turns out to be pretty cute.

Congrats and best of luck for the full version :)

Thank you so much for the feedback! I love the SCP lore. Honored that this fiction made you feel something similar!

Thanks ;)

This story simulates a computer file. It's text-based, but the text and GUI contribute to the visual of the story environment. I asked if it's okay. Thank you for accepting this! <3

Hello! Is there a way to DM you? I have a more specific question.

Thank you for trying this out and for the lovely comment!

Hey! Thanks for trying out this game!

Here are some hints in getting other endings:

1. After you enter the first passcode and BEFORE you enter the next code on the bird: notice that one of the mosquito's eyes is a heart symbol. Find what the mosquito wants on the doll. If you feed it to the mosquito, when you meet the final boss in the red room, you'll have the option "Show me what true freedom is."

2. You're right on track about the bird! You have to not hurt it. So you'll have to paint the leaf with something else that's also red... maybe something that you have collected before and have not used yet. You can get two different endings from here: 1. you'll get a new option when you talk to the final boss 2. you'll get a different ending if you play the rest of the game the same way as you did for Ending 1.

Hope this helps!

Aww, thank you so much!

Aw, thanks! The game doesn't have a mobile version for Google Play, but it does have one on itch, in the download options. It's not on Steam either, unfortunately.

Just accepted!
