This starts so melancholy, and I absolutely adore the sounds being used -- while subtle the low end is alive which gives me a sense of vastness. I think the brighter electric piano could have benefited from some slight reverb. I found myself desiring a more oomfy sort of underlying beat when the percussion finally kicks in but the build up to that point was great. Compression can help your drums punch more through the mix, I'd also reccomend giving the percussion some reverb so it sits in the space rather than underneath it. The cymbals/ride of the drums are quite lovely. I love the way the melody progresses and I can feel a lot of emotion in this track, maybe a sense of yearning? I could also see this in a deep sea exploration game. It's quite pretty and reflective and having that it is way more important than having a perfect mix imo! Good job! I love it.
I enjoy the peacefulness of this track, even if it feels somewhat lonely.. I could definitely see this as background music to a submarine navigation game. I very much enjoy the submarine ping foley that's added in and the reverse pad riser, stuff like that always sounds so pleasing to the ear for me. Well done. I don't really have notes about the mix, compositionally it feels like it serves a purpose for a navigation style scene where there is no event, regardless permutations of the main motiff or evolution of the melody would've been great elements to add, but I think it stands well on it's own (more of, "would have been nice" than a "it needs it")! Good job!
I enjoyed the arrangement of the orchestral elements. Mix wise, things kind of felt flat/static to me; more attention could have been given to harmonic movement, velocity and making use of space. I'd recommend adding some reverb to make the orchestral sounds blend more and more believable, some compression/side chain compression to let the drums punch through; using "ear candy" like risers and impacts could highlight particular moments and overall theme wise to me I felt more of a desert kind of vibe with percussion than a aquatic or "sea" vibe at parts. Well done otherwise!
The use of sound to convey the story was exceptionally well-executed. Special attention seems to have been given to the foley, and it's very well done. The quality of the audio is outstanding, I enjoyed the panning and distribution of frequencies — more of an experience than a musical piece; the music has a synthetic feel that I take as the breathing operations of a submarine and movement through a deep sea space; encountering a quiet scary anomaly in the depths, but barely escaping. Exceptional work! Keep it up!
Awww I'm so happy to hear that you enjoy it!!
I'd gladly make another sequel pack to either Froggi's Adventure or UWU-Wave as I've recently been getting back into making tunes for fun! :D
Once again, it really makes my day to get messages like these about my packs. I give away a lot of my stuff for free, especialyl when I was first starting out; I haven't made a music pack in a while, but I'd love to get back into it. I love helping aspiring devs like yourself out by providing them with high quality assets that are fun and versatile! <3 Always a pleasure hearing from you Joshington! I'll make sure to check out your new game when I get back from holiday!
thanks,
-Aza
It's so uplifting to know that stuff that I forgot I made is still out there and being heard and used to make other art...
Thank you so much for taking the time to let me know you've used the music -- I will take a look.
Lately I've been very depressed and haven't made music for a long time... Sometimes I feel like giving up, honestly, but little gestures of kindness and thoughtfulness like this restore some of my hope and desire to create. Sincerely, thank you.
You can find the soundfont file from pretty much any oldschool video game online as a SF2 file, which can be loaded into a sampler -- For this project, I used Plogue Technologies Sforazondo (i think i spelt that right) -- I selected the Super Castlevania IV soundfont and composed the tracks in ableton
