Hello everyone, AxleByte Studios here!

Sadly, our go-to artist left the team because they were really busy with real world stuff. So, we have a vacant spot open for anyone who would like to join.

About the game:

The game is called Land of Southern Lights (or LOSL for short) and it is a monster collector and turn-based RP game whose target audience is the veteran fan of POKÉMON. In fact, this game is really hard and features both a complex narrative and interesting game mechanics. It features:

  • Tons of new critters referred to as VEXELs.
  • A huge map filled with POI and things to do.
  • A complex narrative that changes depending on the player's actions.
  • A completely new typing system, new moves, and a battle system tailored for people who like challenges.
  • Level of difficulty specifically tailored to please long-term POKÉMON fans who are now veterans and would love to have another challenging game.

This game is a long-term project (deadline measured in years instead of months) and we hope to create a new IP called the VEXEL SERIES. This long deadline allows us to ensure that:

  1. Everything works as it should and as advertised.
  2. The game looks and feels good to play.
  3. The game is fun to play and has infinite replayability.

What are we searching for?

As of now, we are searching for 2D pixel artists and animators who are comfortable at drawing overworld and battle sprites. This means that, if you are looking for:

  • Projects to further your portfolio.
  • Ways to test and/or refine your skills with complex projects.
  • Ways to learn something new and need projects to try.
  • Ways to help without excessive compensation.

Just let us know! Any help is welcome.

What about the payment?

As of now, we do not have a lot of funds since we rely mostly on the support that our generous Patreon members give us. Before starting the development of this game project, we ran a survey and found out that there is a great demand for games like this one. So, if we deliver the first test build before December, it is guaranteed that the members who are currently in the free tier would definitely join the paid ones.

I have no problems with the option Flat Rate + RevShare if needed. However, unless strictly needed, we prioritize those artists who would like to help for free or low payouts.

Worry not if you decide to join the project for free as it does not mean you are never paid. Instead, as the Patreon grows, I have more funds to share between team members. In such cases, I give a flat rate taking into account the non-paid work they did prior.

Final notes

Payment is done through PayPal. So, don't request any payment option if you don't have it. If anything here has piqued your interest, feel free to contact our main developer through his Discord: dignoranza.

Lastly, if you enjoy working with us, you can become a permanent member of the team for future projects.

Have fun, and we wish you have a fantastic day.

Hello, AxleByte Studios here.

Your game idea sounds fantastic and I have some talented artists in my team who would like to make these assets.

If you want, you can contact us on Discord so we can work something out: axlebyte_studios

Here is an example of one of their animations, just for reference.

Hello everyone, AxleByte Studios here!

We are looking for game developers who would like to handle the game programming side of the company.

While we do have a talented software engineer/developer, they primarily work on the backend and tooling system. Because of that, it would be great if there were other people who were willing to handle game programming so that our developer has less burdens to deal with. After all, backend is really hard and we would love if they could focus all of their efforts in the company technological infrastructure instead of keep switching between the two.

If any of you would love to help us with coding games, feel free to reach us out. It is definitely a great opportunity for you to expand both your portfolio and your experience.

What are we searching for?

Since we use our own infrastructure, we are NOT looking for people that fit a specific game engine(s) or programming language(s). Beside, you HAVE TO learn how to use our tools regardless so everyone is welcome. Still, knowing some of them is certainly beneficial during the learning phase.

For those who are interested, our toolchain/tech stack is structured as follows:

  • Programming Languages: Golang, StableDelphin*.
  • Game Engine: StreamForce*.
  • Game Type: 2D and 2.5D.
  • Library: ASL* with SDL2.
  • Technologies: Git, GitLab, Git Flow.
  • Tech Stack: Tools are built by our backend developer as we go (i.e., when they are needed).

(*) it is both native (i.e., made by our backend developer) and in progress (i.e., our backend developer is still improving them every day).

As mentioned prior, since we use different technologies than the most common ones (e.g., Unity, UE, RPG Maker, GML, Ren'py, etc.), it is a great opportunity for you to expand your expertise and further your portfolio. Plus, since the plan to publish the Stream Force game engine for public and private use, you also get a new engine under your belt for future works.

What about payment?

As of now, we have a low payout $5/mo since we are still a growing indie company. However, this pay is like a flat rate and it is subject to increase as our internal budget increases. In addition to this, you also get a percentage of revenue share. Therefore, your pay is: flat rate ($5/mo + increase) + rev share (%/unit sold).

Still, if you just want to help for one reason or another without pay, it is perfectly fine and greatly appreciated.

Final notes

If anything here piqued your interest, feel free to contact us through Discord: dignoranza.

Have fun and wish you a fantastic day.

I mean... sure, why not? I guess... Hit me up, if you want. I can code it.

Hello Derek, nice to meet you! I'm Denyŕst, the only developer in AxleByte Studios.

I'm searching for experienced game programmers who are willing to help me with the coding side of the first (and thus, latest) game project.

As of today, beside game design, project leadership, and resource manager, I also work on the coding side of the project: the game itself, map editor, game engine, and all the backend infrastructure. Basically, anything that is needed for the entire project to work.

This all to say that I would greatly appreciate someone who can take care some of the burdens from me such that I can focus on the game engine and tooling side of the project.

I developed a custom library called Application Support Layer (ASL). This library is written in the Golang programming language and it is everything you need to code any 2D games. If you would like to help me out, send a friend request at @dignoranza, and we can discuss details and stuff.

Thanks and I wish you have a great rest of your day.

- AxleByte Studios.

Hi, I sent a friend request. I'd like to hear more from you! (pun intended)

I have sent a friend request. I'd like to hear more from you!

Hi, I'd like to know more about you. Got any Discord contact?

Hi, do you have a Discord I can contact you?

Sure, why not. Do you have a Discord or something? If you do, add me: dignoranza

Ah okay, then I can help.

Hello, I'm a software programmer and I could help if you want, but I don't use any of the game engine you specified. I use my own that is perfectly suited for 2D games.

If your game is 2D, then I am able to make it.

Hi, a voice actor would be nice for our games, if you want contact me on Discord: dignoranza. We mainly need for simple English sentences.

But if you give me yours, I can also add you.

Add me on Discord: dignoranza

I have sent a friend request few hours ago. If you want, accept me

Well... Pokémon Black & White's artstyle would fit better for this game (i.e., pixel art with splines for animations). However, we can always do an Heartgold & Soulsilver style if it becomes too expensive to make all the critters.

Hey, programmer here. If you want, I'm up for it.

I have a custom library to develop games that works well with 2D. If you need help, let me know

Hi, if you want we are looking for someone to make music for our game. It's like Pokémon but with completely different mechanics. This means we need some music for battles and the various towns.

If you want to help us, let me know.

Hello everyone,

I'm searching for someone who would like to help with some spriting for my game. It is like Pokémon but has different mechanics. However, this does mean we need an entire fakedex.

Because of that, I gave myself a six years time period so we can go at our own pace without needing to rush it; this means that even people who contribute occasionally can help.

While at first it won't be paid, I will pay you for your work when the game is in a publishable state.

If you'd like to help, let me know.

Hi, I really like your art style but sadly we don't have enough funds to hire.

The game is quite complex and it has a deadline in about six years (if we consider the worst development flow). If you accept alternative partnership (like delayed payment or similar), we'd like to have you.

Hi, I'm working on a game and I gladly like help from other game developers.

The game is called LOSL and it's a RPG similar to Pokémon in spirit but with completely different game mechanics. We use a custom library that acts as the framework for my games.

If you want to help, let me know.
