This is the place to ask any general questions about the game jam, such as the rules, the deadline, the registration, etc. We will try to answer them as soon as possible.

Welcome to the General Questions board! Please read the FAQ first before posting your question here. If you don’t find your answer there, feel free to ask us anything related to the game jam. We are happy to help!

I am going to ask a very dumb question… I am going to try this jam challenge, but I also wouldn’t mind reading about game play/design that is NOT about video games design. I know I stumbled across stuff like this a year ago. Need a keyword for sorting stuff on the web, please.  Or a direction. Meanwhile I will go back and look at some of the simple games I adore and back track from there. Thank you!

Thank you so much for reaching out and showing your interest in the Micro Bookmark Gamejam! No question is dumb, and we’re here to help you navigate through this exciting challenge.

While the focus of the Micro Bookmark Gamejam is indeed on creating compact and innovative games that fit on a bookmark, we understand your curiosity about game design beyond video games. You might want to explore keywords like “analog game design,” “tabletop game design,” or “board game mechanics” to find resources that delve into different aspects of game play and design.

Remember, game design principles can often transcend different types of games, so exploring various sources can certainly provide you with valuable insights and inspiration for your entry.

Feel free to immerse yourself in the simple games you adore; sometimes, the best ideas spring from unexpected places. If you have any more questions or need further assistance, please don’t hesitate to ask. We’re here to support you on your creative journey!

Thank you! That’s a good start.  I am also thrilled to used the word ‘analog’ with games.

May I humbly recommend Vincent Baker's website, "Anyway" at http://lumpley.com/ ? The conversations there have moved to his private patreon-walled forum (which is worth  checking out if you have a few extra bucks) but there's years worth of insight on TTRPG design from an acknowledged master of the art.  The newest "article" at the top of the page is an index with highlights from the site's history categorized for rapid access.

Thank you, checking it out later today. I love resources :)

A very quick question before this jam starts: It says in the instructions there’s no specific guidelines to what games we make, but is there a hard limit on the number of submissions? I never thought about making micro games in bookmark format, and I find there simplicity and accessibility absolutely revolutionary (I love the zine scene, so that probably explains by immediate love for this concept). I’m keen to really make a bunch. But is three or four submissions too many?

Thanks for reaching out with your question. It’s awesome to hear that you’re interested in our concept and eager to submit your games. The good news is that there’s no strict limit on how many submissions you can make. Your excitement about creating micro games in bookmark format is fantastic – we totally get why it’s catching your attention!

While there’s no hard and fast rule about the number of submissions, you might want to think about sending in your absolute best creations. This way, you can really showcase your talents and save some other great ideas for future opportunities. We’re really looking forward to seeing the cool games you come up with, and we’re here to support you along the way!

If you’ve got more questions or need more info, just give us a shout. Best of luck, and we’re excited to see what you’ll bring to the table! 🕊️

hey i asked that question before in faq but maybe that was the wrong thread (in that case sorry) are digital games that fit the limitation allowed?
