Theme

Dinosaur Town

Correlation to theme
When I saw the Dinosaur Town theme, my mind went to two different places. At first, I thought about how playful and quirky a goofy town filled with anthropomorphic dinosaurs would be. Then, I started thinking about the tinge of sadness that you might feel visiting the last holdout of dinosaurs after most have died out. So, I decided to try to combine the two ideas to write a piece that was equal parts quirky and melancholy.

Really great track! The choice of instruments and sounds was spot on, and the percussion is awesome. My only suggestion was that I wish the bass was a little louder, because the bass line was really fun!

i love the sounds you used on this, fits really well with the theme

Yoooo this one is spot on with the dino town vibes, I really liked it! The composition is simple but very effective and the instrumentation really nails the town vibe. One of my favorites so far!

Similar to 'Down to Dino' you have an initial focus on the percussion, which works wonders! You then add instruments that fit nicely and add some memorizable melodies and interest to your song. Lovely entry, really well-composed and nice on the ear. For once, I am not complaining about it being too long, but I'd rather wish it was longer, like 2.5 minutes rather than 1.5! Well done :D

Also, nice to see that others are also using a 3/4 (or 6/8, or 6/4.. all same thing really) time signature. Virtual high five!

This is really well-written. The melody matches great with the theme and is fun to listen to. You also picked just the right instruments to capture the setting you were going for.

  • Love the explosive start at around 0:21
  • Absolutely love the instrument starting at 0:32 and lasting about 10 seconds
  • The bongos are great and they make me think of a jungle
  • Like others have said, the percussion is excellent

The music sounds like it came from a professional composer. I've scored you highly on everything. I've now listened to it three times. :D

Thank you so much for the kind words! I'm so glad you enjoyed it. I appreciate the detailed analysis, I was really happy with how the percussion turned out! And your comment about sounding like it came from a professional composer really means a lot. I really need that confidence booster sometimes, so I really appreciate it haha. Thanks so much for listening!

This is like the exact instrumentation "dinosaur town" made me think of.

Haha yeah, I was worried that I might've been leaning into too many clichés with the instrumentation, but I guess they're also clichés because they work so well! I'm glad to hear that the instrumentation  hit the mark for you, thanks for listening!

I really appreciate your intentionality in keeping space for echoes and silence in this piece. This makes it sound more acoustic and prehistoric. I think this belongs in a Donkey Kong Country game. I love the harmonic choices you make - especially that note at 1:10! Great work and thank you for sharing!

Developer

Thank you so much for the feedback! I appreciate the acknowledgement of the silence and echoes throughout the piece, I always find that silence can lend itself really well to making a piece sound more primordial and organic. So thanks for noticing that! I love me some Donkey Kong Country music, so that comparison means a lot! Thanks for listening!

Nice song. The percussion is probably my favorite thing in this song. (=b•̀ω •́)=b

Thank you! Yeah, I was really pleased with how the percussion turned out in this one haha. Thanks so much for listening!

This is one of my favourites! My only suggestion would be the drums at the beginning go on a little long.

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much! I'm really glad that you liked it. Yeah, I agree about the percussion at the beginning being a bit too long. I wanted to extend the piece a little bit and give it some room to build before the fuller orchestration comes in at around the 20 second mark, but in hindsight I probably should've added a few extra elements to that percussion intro to make it feel less repetitive haha. Thanks for listening, and I appreciate the feedback!

Even regardless of this, I think you have a shot at being the winning entry! I've listened to the track about 5-10 times now, I was listening to it on repeat.
