I think you may have bit off a bit too much here, Arc, in a way. That’s a LOT of districts to conquer and a LOT of boss girls. But maybe because it’s just so much “stuff” that chapter 3 has felt very samey throughout. Different hairdo on the same one animation for girls which have minute text differences is wearing thin a bit fast.

I’ve been waiting a few weeks and checking (I think my last update had been the combat introduction) but this build ended up being a bit meh because of this (new combat UI looks pretty good, though. Definite improvement). So at this time I feel like I’m kiiiinda waiting for us to get back to “the good stuff” with all the regular girls who are actually somewhat fleshed out characters instead.

Can’t speak for everyone else but, on my part, I wouldn’t mind either less combat planned or slower progression if it meant some variety. As it is, I feel like it’s not adding much to all of the good work you’ve built before.

Assuming that access to construction and ability to take over all adjacent district means we’ll at least get to progress Emma again soon(ish)?

There's always going to be sacrifices made when you're a solo dev on a weekly update schedule, but I don't believe that means that you shouldn't extend yourself and try new things.

(Also, the complaint about lack of story content isn't new - it was a constant gripe in Act Two, as well, when some people felt I was focused too much on side content and not enough on main story content. Everyone has a preferred pace, and it's always different to the next person's).

As more districts are conquered, and more of the map opens up, story events will begin to be revealed - and certain events will tie back into the story mode in the form of increased stats, new recipes, buffs and skills and so on. Currently only six districts are conquerable, and none of them contain large "story nodes" like the college, which is why it feels like the story content has slowed. This is all necessary setup, though, to ensure that there is enough space - and enough tools - to allow for the story events to take place.

That being said, I fully understand if some people are finding the updates not as appealing, or want more story content, and in those cases I would strongly suggest that you pretend CK is like most other games and releases every couple months. You'll find there's a lot more to sink your teeth into in each update if you do :)

I definitely get how massive of an undertaking this is (and yeah, your weekly schedule is nuts, lol). My comments were all made in the spirit of trying to help give some perspective of how things are shaping out so far.

I certainly appreciate you branching out for new ideas, the combat system is turning out enjoyable, for sure and things are slowly shaping out.

Checking out the weekly changelogs and downloading every once in a while when it looks like there’s a nice chunk out has been my way of engaging already.

Sorry if I came across a little whiny or something, it wasn’t my intention, just trying to help gauge what’s working better of worse. I for one found the content in Act Two fine tbh, even if it wasn’t all main story, it was a good variety, which is the one thing that I tried to convey with my original post: you’re putting out a lot of content very quickly, but because of that schedule, things are ending up a bit too formulaic. At the end of the day, this is your project and only you can decide how things should be. And I can say I’m still looking forward to where things go from here

I appreciate that, and I hope that - slow as it may be - the end result turns out to be worth it :)

Normally in development people don't see the systems being constructed - they're built by a separate team within the studio and then content is built on top of that framework by  a different group of coders, artists and writers. Unfortunately, being a solo dev, that's not possible and so everyone gets to watch the scaffolding going up in real time :P

It's ponderous, and I have every sympathy with people who just want a return to Act Two (in which all the systems were in place for a good two years). Unfortunately, I need to get this darned scaffolding up first!

So I hope you can stick with it until the systems are done and the content starts rolling in, and that it's all worth it in the end. Only one way to find out! ;)

You have my coder sympathy. Ren’Py is all python too, yeesh! =P
