Hi there! I am creating a collection of fully blind accessible games, and your game is listed under the "blind support tag". The word "blind" means different things to different people, and within that wide spectrum their are various levels of expertise with visual UI's. but as a fully blind gamer, I am wondering what features this game provides for those who can not see the screen at all. Do you have "screen reader" or "text to speech" support? Is your game fully playable with a keyboard or controller, rather than having to point the mouse at buttons on the interface? If the answer to those questions is no, it would still be great to know what options are provided for those with less severe visual impairments, so that I might make them aware of your game's usability for them. Hey, thanks so much for reaching out! This game does come with text-to-speech support! Actually, all games made with the visual novel software Ren'Py have built-in text-to-speech support that can be activated by simply pressing the v key in game. To go with this built-in support, I added alt descriptions to make the text messaging interface of the game easier to follow without needing to see the message bubbles themselves (e.g., saying aloud each character's name each time the message bubbles switch back and forth), as well as alt descriptions that describe the non text messaging portions (e.g., the images, description of the character that appears on screen, etc.). And yes, it can be played using only the keyboard! The only interactive part of the game comes in the form of text-based choices you can make, which can be selected via either the keyboard or mouse. (I unfortunately don't know how to program controller support though...) I hope that these options work well and are enough... however, if there is anything more I can do with the game to make it even better in this regard, I would love to do it!!
Awesome response, thanks so much for taking the time! :) I know from experience that Renpy does have self voicing as an option, but the effectiveness of it varies greatly between titles depending on how the actual game works. That's why I like to ask so I can get it in the dev's own words, and you've covered all my concerns very well.
Since you mentioned that important visuals and visual status indicators have "alt text" labels, and your game has full keyboard support for navigating the UI, I'd say that this is one of the few *ACTUALLY* accessible Renpy games, though I'll need to try it to make sure.
I can't blame the devs much for not knowing that built in self voicing alone isn't enough if the game isn't made in such a way to take advantage of it, but I can definitely congratulate those who took the time to do it right. So thank you, very much! You're a good example to others, and your attention to detail is going to be very appreciated by your blind players. :)

I was actually thinking about your message since last night and today went in and poked around and made a few more small tweaks where I thought it might be helpful. For instance, a screen at the very start to inform people about the self-voicing option and how it can be turned on right away (in case anyone doesn't know about it), as well as better alt descriptions for what to do when the text choices pop up, just in case the keyboard doesn't automatically highlight them when they appear. Hopefully, some of these will make it even easier! (Though I will also continue to think about whether there's anything else I can do to improve it further.) I'm very happy if I can make the game as accessible as possible!
I'm sorry it's taken me so long to get back to this, but thank you very much for going the extra mile! It seems like you have things well in hand. :) The only other thing I can think of to look out for are visual only puzzles (those where you need to see them to complete them) but aside from that you've covered everything I can imagine.
Damn it's rare and surprising that I can relate to a game so much. A lot of these situations and texts reminded me of past friends and crushes to the point that some points of conversation were basically the same. I also super respect the accuracy of respecting boundaries getting people to trust and get closer and more comfortable with you since that's super important in any relationship lover or not. Heck even in my relationship now doing that has made us get super close and love each other more! As well as the fact that my partner is super respectful and there for me with my anxiety attacks too just like when the protagonist does that which helps me a lot! So basically great message for such a great example of how to go into a relationship and great job at portraying super realistic situations. You did amazing keep it up! :3

Boundaries are so important in any type of relationship. It's so essential that you both parties are comfortable in the interaction if you actually want the interactions and relationship to continue 🥺💦

This is by far one of my favorite games. Short and sweet, different outcomes, and a perfect representation of anxiety, coming from an anxious person! I can't believe something so nice is free, and available on browser! You did a great job on this! I love the art style too. I'm surprised I got the cute and sweet scene on the first try, but I was really careful to be as nice as possible aswell. 10/10 game, I would definitely play again! <3

LOL they were best friends growing up and in high school, but drifted apart a bit after Iggy went away to college and also because Iggy's not very good at keeping up with relationships and so generally doesn't reach out on his own 💦 It's mostly Genzou trying to keep up the convos because he's hopelessly in love with him tho at the same time assuming/accepting that it will never work out but still trying because he just can't quite let it go and also generally still wanting to be a part of Iggy's life no matter what lkajdfas
(Admittedly also I would have liked to include more convos in between the ones given but I was limited by the word count, so had to just choose the most important ones to keep the story going.)

So, I finally played it. It doesn't feel like 1000 (sorry, 991) words at all and I'm simply blown away by how simultaneously long and short it seems compared to how long it actually is. The texts are amazing but also gave me The Feels so obviously now I have to give it a bad review and leave to cry (for legal reasons, this is a joke)
LMAO MAYBE BECAUSE I TRIED TO SQUISH THE SENTENCES AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE using like text speak dkljadkfa I admittedly did spend a lot of time towards the end comparing my current word count with what I still had left to do and cutting down words from sentences or extraneous lines to make room for where I needed others. IT WAS A BALANCING ACT 🤣💦 For real tho I wish I could have written a lot more as I was having so much fun with it and had ideas for a variety of other days' worth of convos that I had to forego.

This is so cute! I love how the story's presented - the texting with the authentic-feeling pauses, then the spoken dialog in the dark, and finally the sprite and full dialog bubbles - such a special moment, to see the scene and sprite!
Even just in text message form, you could really get the personalities of each character. I really liked all the different responses that Iggy may send depending on what you (Genzou) chooses to say. My favourite was the birthday text, where he texts you the next day if you don't mention it.
I was curious about the other ending, so I played through a few times (totally loving all the potential responses), and I thought it felt pretty realistic. You can see why Iggy may have distanced himself or felt uncomfortable based on past texts. The characters just feel real!
This is the first time I've come across your work and I absolutely love it, and I can't wait to play Our Wonderland to get more of these guys! (I love dark horror-fantasy games!)

That was one of my goals with trying to set up the texting screen to have some more of the like, notifs, and the wait time, and animations and such. So I'm glad some of that got across??? (Even if making it completely realistic would be mostly impossible and annoy people LMAO) I'm especially glad you liked the dialogue, I really had a lot of fun with it -- trying to translate their characters into their text speak and just making myself laugh a little bit with some of the funny and sweet interactions. This was fun!!! I like how the pauses in the game forces you to slow down and rly adds to the feeling of it being a real-time texted convo! Despite the pressure of waiting for a text and my bad habit of being a chronic ghoster lol it also kinda made me want to message my own friends again :P
I fumbled a few of the choices here and there (and also wanted to see what Iggy's response would be to some of them) so I played a few times! I really liked genzou's birthday text scenes!!!! if you don't remind iggy he texts you the next day first and idk i just thought that was a nice touch!! Especially as someone who has had this convo (being iggy) with ppl multiple times lol
The transition from texting into irl with the snow was also wonderfully done too! And then how the menu screen changed!!! it made me smile :D

I've just finished this game and it was really cool and wholesome I loved it !!! As an ace person it really made my heart melt and it was very very sweet.
I shared it around so that more people can play it ! The text bubbles and their animation and the "shit shit shit" part were really well craftet I'm impressed haha. The pictures at the end were cute and iI really like the design of the characters.

this was so cute!!! the ending was so cute, i hope the lads got their food hahaha. huge fan of the changes in scene made possible between the texting interface, dialogue bubbles in the dark, and then the snowy background+sprite... i think it's a really cool way of doing something with the limitations!! + i too would be head over heels for someone who brought me a hot drink on a snowy day tbh <3. very sweet!!! This was such a sweet and endearing game! The dialogue flowed so smoothly and helped give me an idea of the personalities of both characters with how unique their individual ways of speaking were.
And when I was able to see Iggy in person after saying all the right things, that was certainly a perfect way to end the game! The way you can see Iggy's nervousness show through his poses, as well as expressions, was a lovely touch to his sprite :> And the main menu image changing was very clever and a fun reward along with seeing Iggy in person! Overall, I can tell with all the unique GUI, speech bubbles, animations, and said main menu that you put a lot of love and heart into this, very well done!

I loved this so much!! The personalities of Iggy and Genzou are so clear in their texting styles, and the animations are all very well done; it really mimics the experience of actually texting! The ending CG is so cute too, the characters are always so expressive! I only wish I was as suave as Genzou!

Its a very good game and i hope you come out with another one continuing the story! The only negative i can say is i didn't notice the save until i had to restart, maybe autosaves would be good. But instead of that it was amazing! A nice challenge would be 3 choices!

It's quite a different vibe though as it's a horror game, but it does still delve a lot into the relationship between these two and also Iggy's figuring out and coming to terms with himself and his sexuality (the main game is from Iggy's POV).

AHHHHH I AM GLAD LDKJALSDKFJA Hahaha I think of those instances like... moments where Genzou thinks he has said something wrong. Oftentimes this indeed was not the best thing he could have said, but there are a few unavoidable ones towards the end (like when you ask to call Iggy, for instance) that aren't actually bad but just Genzou being unsure (since he's used to accidentally saying the wrong thing aldkfjads).
LOL TECHNICALLY THE <3 IS THE WRONG CHOICE IN THAT INSTANCE. But it's not like you have to do each choice perfectly to still get the good ending, so it's also OK to pick that too (and I do find that interaction incredibly hilarious LOL) 🤭💕

AHHHHHH I played The Game TM and im kind of shocked this is less than 1k words?? Like,,, it feels like you somehow put more words in (but in a good way!!!) because I feel like i clicked every option trying to get the good ending (I may or may not have chosen the Bad Options for Funsies first lol) and also just to enjoy Genzou's little "shit shit shit" drift across the screen
I can def tell this is a self-indulgent project bc like wow you put so much effort into everything from the gui to the visuals to the coding and workarounds of the limitations and ahhhHHHH im just impressed you just put this much work into it so fast!! Really feels like im roleplaying Genzou to talk to Iggy which feels so odd??? Because im so used to seeing things from Iggy's POV so taking on the role of Genzou somehow feels enlightening??? Also Iggy just,,, freaking out at missing Genzou's birthday makes me feel guilty for choosing the "talk about birthday" option over the "nothing" option the first go around (but also ahhhh it was so sweet how Iggy was just freaking out and Genzou's all chill about it like "no problem i get that" because Iggys' relatable as fuck in this regard and seeing Genzou react that way was just A+++)

I was trying my best to get it bc i know it existed and awww it was cute!! love the use of snow particles for the atmosphere and also how the main menu changes when you get the correct option (and the little visual changes like when Genzou calls Iggy or goes "shit shit shit" like gfhjgfhj im a sucker for the effort you put into this ahhhHHHH)
(also!! just as a PS!! if you're worried about the web version breaking i played through on that edition and it works perfectly!! didn't encounter any problems whatsoever ^^)
LKJAFLDSKFASDLF IT DOES FEEL LIKE A LOT IG. It could be because I tried to squeeze as much as I could into shorter texting-format phrases. Also there are some places where I use variables for repeated/looped parts, which helped a bit, too. I painstakingly kept track of the words in a Gdoc as I was going and had to keep editing down some parts or deleting the extraneous word here and there so I could expand on other parts that felt like they needed more weight alkdjfad The forced pauses also make things feel a bit longer in general perhaps,,, 🤔

I am creating a collection of fully blind accessible games, and your game is listed under the "blind support tag". The word "blind" means different things to different people, and within that wide spectrum their are various levels of expertise with visual UI's. but as a fully blind gamer, I am wondering what features this game provides for those who can not see the screen at all. Do you have "screen reader" or "text to speech" support? Is your game fully playable with a keyboard or controller, rather than having to point the mouse at buttons on the interface? If the answer to those questions is no, it would still be great to know what options are provided for those with less severe visual impairments, so that I might make them aware of your game's usability for them. Thank you for any information you can provide, it's very much appreciated! :)
Hey, thanks so much for reaching out! This game does come with text-to-speech support! Actually, all games made with the visual novel software Ren'Py have built-in text-to-speech support that can be activated by simply pressing the v key in game. To go with this built-in support, I added alt descriptions to make the text messaging interface of the game easier to follow without needing to see the message bubbles themselves (e.g., saying aloud each character's name each time the message bubbles switch back and forth), as well as alt descriptions that describe the non text messaging portions (e.g., the images, description of the character that appears on screen, etc.). And yes, it can be played using only the keyboard! The only interactive part of the game comes in the form of text-based choices you can make, which can be selected via either the keyboard or mouse. (I unfortunately don't know how to program controller support though...) I hope that these options work well and are enough... however, if there is anything more I can do with the game to make it even better in this regard, I would love to do it!!

I know from experience that Renpy does have self voicing as an option, but the effectiveness of it varies greatly between titles depending on how the actual game works. That's why I like to ask so I can get it in the dev's own words, and you've covered all my concerns very well.
Since you mentioned that important visuals and visual status indicators have "alt text" labels, and your game has full keyboard support for navigating the UI, I'd say that this is one of the few *ACTUALLY* accessible Renpy games, though I'll need to try it to make sure.
I can't blame the devs much for not knowing that built in self voicing alone isn't enough if the game isn't made in such a way to take advantage of it, but I can definitely congratulate those who took the time to do it right. So thank you, very much! You're a good example to others, and your attention to detail is going to be very appreciated by your blind players. :)

I was actually thinking about your message since last night and today went in and poked around and made a few more small tweaks where I thought it might be helpful. For instance, a screen at the very start to inform people about the self-voicing option and how it can be turned on right away (in case anyone doesn't know about it), as well as better alt descriptions for what to do when the text choices pop up, just in case the keyboard doesn't automatically highlight them when they appear. Hopefully, some of these will make it even easier! (Though I will also continue to think about whether there's anything else I can do to improve it further.) I'm very happy if I can make the game as accessible as possible!

The only other thing I can think of to look out for are visual only puzzles (those where you need to see them to complete them) but aside from that you've covered everything I can imagine.

Damn it's rare and surprising that I can relate to a game so much. A lot of these situations and texts reminded me of past friends and crushes to the point that some points of conversation were basically the same. I also super respect the accuracy of respecting boundaries getting people to trust and get closer and more comfortable with you since that's super important in any relationship lover or not. Heck even in my relationship now doing that has made us get super close and love each other more! As well as the fact that my partner is super respectful and there for me with my anxiety attacks too just like when the protagonist does that which helps me a lot! So basically great message for such a great example of how to go into a relationship and great job at portraying super realistic situations. You did amazing keep it up! :3

This is by far one of my favorite games. Short and sweet, different outcomes, and a perfect representation of anxiety, coming from an anxious person! I can't believe something so nice is free, and available on browser! You did a great job on this! I love the art style too. I'm surprised I got the cute and sweet scene on the first try, but I was really careful to be as nice as possible aswell. 10/10 game, I would definitely play again! <3

LOL they were best friends growing up and in high school, but drifted apart a bit after Iggy went away to college and also because Iggy's not very good at keeping up with relationships and so generally doesn't reach out on his own 💦 It's mostly Genzou trying to keep up the convos
because he's hopelessly in love with himtho at the same time assuming/accepting that it will never work out but still trying because he just can't quite let it go and also generally still wanting to be a part of Iggy's life no matter what lkajdfas(Admittedly also I would have liked to include more convos in between the ones given but I was limited by the word count, so had to just choose the most important ones to keep the story going.)

So, I finally played it. It doesn't feel like 1000 (sorry, 991) words at all and I'm simply blown away by how simultaneously long and short it seems compared to how long it actually is. The texts are amazing but also gave me The Feels so obviously now I have to give it a bad review and leave to cry (for legal reasons, this is a joke)
LMAO MAYBE BECAUSE I TRIED TO SQUISH THE SENTENCES AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE using like text speak dkljadkfa I admittedly did spend a lot of time towards the end comparing my current word count with what I still had left to do and cutting down words from sentences or extraneous lines to make room for where I needed others. IT WAS A BALANCING ACT 🤣💦 For real tho I wish I could have written a lot more as I was having so much fun with it and had ideas for a variety of other days' worth of convos that I had to forego.

This is so cute! I love how the story's presented - the texting with the authentic-feeling pauses, then the spoken dialog in the dark, and finally the sprite and full dialog bubbles - such a special moment, to see the scene and sprite!
Even just in text message form, you could really get the personalities of each character. I really liked all the different responses that Iggy may send depending on what you (Genzou) chooses to say. My favourite was the birthday text, where he texts you the next day if you don't mention it.
I was curious about the other ending, so I played through a few times (totally loving all the potential responses), and I thought it felt pretty realistic. You can see why Iggy may have distanced himself or felt uncomfortable based on past texts. The characters just feel real!
This is the first time I've come across your work and I absolutely love it, and I can't wait to play Our Wonderland to get more of these guys! (I love dark horror-fantasy games!)

That was one of my goals with trying to set up the texting screen to have some more of the like, notifs, and the wait time, and animations and such. So I'm glad some of that got across??? (Even if making it completely realistic would be mostly impossible and annoy people LMAO) I'm especially glad you liked the dialogue, I really had a lot of fun with it -- trying to translate their characters into their text speak and just making myself laugh a little bit with some of the funny and sweet interactions. I wish I could have had a bit more room to come up with even more, but the jam word count limitation stopped me LOL Maybe in the future though...

I really liked genzou's birthday text scenes!!!! if you don't remind iggy he texts you the next day first and idk i just thought that was a nice touch!! I've just finished this game and it was really cool and wholesome I loved it !!! As an ace person it really made my heart melt and it was very very sweet.

this was so cute!!! the ending was so cute, i hope the lads got their food hahaha. huge fan of the changes in scene made possible between the texting interface, dialogue bubbles in the dark, and then the snowy background+sprite... i think it's a really cool way of doing something with the limitations!! + i too would be head over heels for someone who brought me a hot drink on a snowy day tbh <3. very sweet!!! This was such a sweet and endearing game! The dialogue flowed so smoothly and helped give me an idea of the personalities of both characters with how unique their individual ways of speaking were.
And when I was able to see Iggy in person after saying all the right things, that was certainly a perfect way to end the game! The way you can see Iggy's nervousness show through his poses, as well as expressions, was a lovely touch to his sprite :> And the main menu image changing was very clever and a fun reward along with seeing Iggy in person! Overall, I can tell with all the unique GUI, speech bubbles, animations, and said main menu that you put a lot of love and heart into this, very well done!

I loved this so much!! The personalities of Iggy and Genzou are so clear in their texting styles, and the animations are all very well done; it really mimics the experience of actually texting! The ending CG is so cute too, the characters are always so expressive! I only wish I was as suave as Genzou!

Its a very good game and i hope you come out with another one continuing the story! The only negative i can say is i didn't notice the save until i had to restart, maybe autosaves would be good. But instead of that it was amazing! A nice challenge would be 3 choices!

It's quite a different vibe though as it's a horror game, but it does still delve a lot into the relationship between these two and also Iggy's figuring out and coming to terms with himself and his sexuality (the main game is from Iggy's POV).

AHHHHH I AM GLAD LDKJALSDKFJA Hahaha I think of those instances like... moments where Genzou thinks he has said something wrong. Oftentimes this indeed was not the best thing he could have said, but there are a few unavoidable ones towards the end (like when you ask to call Iggy, for instance) that aren't actually bad but just Genzou being unsure (since he's used to accidentally saying the wrong thing aldkfjads).
LOL TECHNICALLY THE <3 IS THE WRONG CHOICE IN THAT INSTANCE. But it's not like you have to do each choice perfectly to still get the good ending, so it's also OK to pick that too (and I do find that interaction incredibly hilarious LOL) 🤭💕

AHHHHHH I played The Game TM and im kind of shocked this is less than 1k words?? Like,,, it feels like you somehow put more words in (but in a good way!!!) because I feel like i clicked every option trying to get the good ending (I may or may not have chosen the Bad Options for Funsies first lol) and also just to enjoy Genzou's little "shit shit shit" drift across the screen
I can def tell this is a self-indulgent project bc like wow you put so much effort into everything from the gui to the visuals to the coding and workarounds of the limitations and ahhhHHHH im just impressed you just put this much work into it so fast!! Really feels like im roleplaying Genzou to talk to Iggy which feels so odd??? Because im so used to seeing things from Iggy's POV so taking on the role of Genzou somehow feels enlightening??? Also Iggy just,,, freaking out at missing Genzou's birthday makes me feel guilty for choosing the "talk about birthday" option over the "nothing" option the first go around (but also ahhhh it was so sweet how Iggy was just freaking out and Genzou's all chill about it like "no problem i get that" because Iggys' relatable as fuck in this regard and seeing Genzou react that way was just A+++)
also I really like the ending scene!! I was trying my best to get it bc i know it existed and awww it was cute!! love the use of snow particles for the atmosphere and also how the main menu changes when you get the correct option (and the little visual changes like when Genzou calls Iggy or goes "shit shit shit" like gfhjgfhj im a sucker for the effort you put into this ahhhHHHH)
(also!! just as a PS!! if you're worried about the web version breaking i played through on that edition and it works perfectly!! didn't encounter any problems whatsoever ^^)
LKJAFLDSKFASDLF IT DOES FEEL LIKE A LOT IG. It could be because I tried to squeeze as much as I could into shorter texting-format phrases. Also there are some places where I use variables for repeated/looped parts, which helped a bit, too. I painstakingly kept track of the words in a Gdoc as I was going and had to keep editing down some parts or deleting the extraneous word here and there so I could expand on other parts that felt like they needed more weight alkdjfad The forced pauses also make things feel a bit longer in general perhaps,,, 🤔
