Mini Monster Jam

I got my start in game design by creating monsters for Pathfinder and then D&D 5th Edition, so I decided as a tribute to that I would run the Mini Monster Jam, which is a jam for creating monster-based supplements for existing RPG systems. This means no original games, but if I see enough interest in that I might run a follow-up jam for monster-based original games. The jam will run from March 25th to April 8th.

The guidelines, which you can also find in the link below are:

  • Your submission must be a supplement (i.e. not an original game) to an existing ttrpg system (D&D, Dungeon World, Pathfinder, etc.)
  • Some examples of supplements include adventuresbestiariescharacter options, and more
  • The supplements must focus on monsters, whatever that means to you
  • No hateful content (sexism, racism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, etc.), but respectfully exploring or tackling these themes are acceptable

The jam opens in a week. This is my first jam, so if anyone has any advice or suggestions I'm open to hearing it.

In addition to a self-only submission, I'd be interested in some collaborative work.

What about an exquisite corpse game where each person in a ring illustrates a monster, writes description for the next person's monster, and writes stats for the monster after that.

I should definitely clarify that collaborative work is totally allowed!

The jam has started!

I just want to thank you again for starting this. Real life has gotten in the way of my submission making the deadline, and I'm not going to subject myself to crunch to squeeze something in. But the thing I'm working on (a small zine of monsters) wouldn't have existed without this jam. <3

If you get it done in the near future, I believe I’m able to allow late submissions if you want yours to be included! I’m glad I was able to inspire people!
