A great submission to the game jam! Is it your first game made in RPG Maker?
The presentation is really good! Most of the assets appear to be from asset packs or RTP, but they are edited in such a way that it gives the game a unique vibe. Except the river shore tiles, those need work, but you don't really see them for long anyway.
Great work in this regard!
For the gameplay, this is where it had some issues. You could outrun the enemy and leave them on the other side of the screen, but as soon as you went inside a building they would be right at your heels. Also a few times the enemy spawned 3 tiles away from me, which was annoying. Also, the part after you read the diary a go outside, the enemy would always spawn at the exit and run towards you as you walked down the stairs, so you'd likely run right into them even if you knew they were gonna spawn. It took me 5 times before I managed to dodge them.
Still, it's not a bad system, it just needs refinement.
Some of the puzzles in the second part of the game also felt a bit too vague on what you are actually supposed to be doing and what the end goal is, the labyrinth chase at the end in particular.
Sound-wise, it was pretty good. With the exception of the final scream sound during the game over (when the screen turns red). That one should be replaced and it doesn't help that you'll be hearing it over and over again.
Regarding the game over animation, it should really be skippable. Also, it would be better if atleast the regular ghosts and the main antagonist caused different game over animations.
I was pleasantly surprised how long it was, thought it was gonna end after you get all the pieces of the stone. It definitely felt like it was just the right length for a game like this. The beginning dragged on a bit though, I feel like it took too long before you actually got to see an enemy for the first time.
Anyway, great game!
