Purchased premade assets can be used for the jam normally, just like free ones, so you don't have to worry about that. Just make sure to follow the Terms of Use of whatever external assets you are going to use.

Ah, alright :)

You will probably have more luck finding a team on the jam's discord server: DISCORD

This game jam has just started! There's still plenty of time to join and make a game if you wish to participate!

Only programming/level design is limited by this, writing, art and music can be done before the jam.

If it's something basic, like camera or movement system or similar, then you can reuse the code as is. If it's something more elaborate, then it would be for the best to comply with the spirit of the jam by remaking it from scratch (which might lead to you improving on the original concept). Just make sure that you can honestly say that the majority of the work on the game was done during the jam period.

Good luck!

1) There are no prizes.

2) As on any itch jam, once the rating period starts, itch users will be able to rate the games and once rating period ends, a Results tab will appear on the jam page.

You don't have to join the discord server.

1) Yes, it can be. It's in the FAQ on the jam page:

Games made in any version of RPG Maker or similar engines are preferred, but you can use other game engines. However, in that case, additional limitations apply.

What does that mean? If you use RPG Maker or an engine similar to it (such as WOLF RPG Editor) to make your game, then you are free to just make a horror game. It doesn't matter if it's a puzzle game, a dark fantasy RPG or a Visual Novel made with a ton of custom plugins. All is fine and well, so long as it's a horror game or at least features significant horror elements.

If you use a more "heavy-duty" engine such as Unity, Godot or Unreal Engine, then you need to make sure your game "keeps to the spirit of RPG Maker Horror Games". This is very open to interpretation and is judged on a case-by-case basis. Your game should most likely be 2D and top-down/side-view at the very least. The assumption is that if you are using a different engine, you are already familiar with RPG Maker-style Horror Games and how they normally are. We tend to give people the benefit of the doubt when it comes to this.

2) It would be for the best for your game to have an english version, so that most people can play it, but it's not required.

I appreciate your feedback, that said, if you look at the past RPG Maker Horror Jams, you can see jams where the 1st place game has 7 ratings, while the game with 25 ratings is in the lower half ranking wise. And that's nothing unusual for that jam. Even if you look at the RPG Maker Themed Jams, if a game with most ratings wins, it's not too far from the Median amount of ratings. And even in another jam I run where there were more than twenty submissions, the 1st place game had 4 ratings, while some other games had around 10 ratings.

I have thought about this system in the past and out of all the options, this one works best. If someone wants to cheat, they can do that even with Submission Queue and my experiences with submission queue led me to determine that it led to lower jam engagement overall, which is ultimately what I care about the most. This jam doesn't even have any prizes anyway.

What I'm trying to say is, please don't let this discourage you from joining the jam, if you want to :)

it doesn't have to be a browser game.

Hi, you might have better luck finding a team in the team building channel at the jam's Discord server!

So, does the late submission link work?

https://itch.io/jam/410632/add-game/4150653/3672853?token=of6JDaaQGjpblsluK4alZI...

No problem, simply put a link to your project page on itch once you have it into this thread and I will give you a late submission link.

If you don't manage to submit your project to the game jam before the submission period ends, you can post a link to your game in this thread and I will give you a late submission link that will allow you to submit the game anyway.

You have time to do so until the rating period has ended.

You need to incorporate the Theme into your game in some way and before you submit it, you will need to write atleast 1 short sentence about how your game fits the Theme of the game jam. It's completely up to you how you interpret the theme. Feel free to be creative with it.

Theme: Hero Academy

Bonus Challenges: Unlike the Theme, these are entirely optional. Feel free to do one, two, all of them or ignore them completely.

For this game jam, the optional challenges are the following three:

1) Heroic Classes: The player has to learn new skills and/or spells by attending classes and/or by finishing tasks set by their teachers.

2) Social Connections: There's a gameplay mechanic where the play can build up relationship values with different characters, gaining some benefits from doing so.

3) Restricted Section: There's a part in the game where the protagonist has to sneak in somewhere they are not allowed to be.

If you are using RPG Maker MV or MZ and want to include a Browser version of your game (which will ensure more people will play it), here's a quick guide on how to do that:

1) When you are deploying the game, choose the Web Browsers platform.

2) Locate your deployed game folder and once you have everything you need inside it, compress the folder into a .zip format (by default on Windows, you can right-click the folder, select Send to and choose Compressed (zipped) folder).

3) Create a Project page on itch.io or edit an existing one. Under Kind of Project, choose HTML (you will still be able to add downloadable versions for other platforms like Windows, so don't worry).

4) Upload the zipped folder of your deployed game to your Project page on itch.io.

5) Mark "This file will be played in a browser" for the uploaded .zip game folder.

6) Scroll down to "Embed options", under "Viewport dimension", enter the resolution of your game. The default resolution for both RPG Maker MV and MZ games is Width: 816 and Height: 624

7) Under Frame Options, mark whatever options you think will be useful for your game.

8) Save the changes, then go to your project page. Click Run Game. This will configure the Browser version of the game for the first time and make it playable. After some time, the game should load and from now on, it should be playable in browser.

For this game jam, the optional challenges are the following three:

1) Daily Tasks: The game takes place over the course of multiple days. Each day, the player has a list of tasks to complete.

2) Rooftop Greenhouse: A greenhouse located on top of a building is an important location in the game.

3) Shower Thoughts: There's a scene in the game where the protagonist has an internal monologue while taking a shower.
