Cool idea, it's a little laggy and definitely need companions to work to fulfill higher taxes.

Just to add to what have been mentioned by others; regardless of the tax amount, all resources of the type that have been "mined" gets collected (ex. tax is 10 logs and there are 20 logs lying around, all 20 gets collected when the timer runs out). If resources don't regenerate, it's easy to get a Game Over just by "pre-mining" resources.
I think it can be a really fun game if polished
Very fun concept, unfortunately, there were some bugs that made the game less enjoyable. NPCs would often get trapped inside the materials they just mined, requiring the player to rescue them. Also, after completing the first tax, I lost the ability to mine at all, making progression impossible.
If you squash these bugs, you have a very cool game.
