Every time I've seen someone switching back and forth between the same renders, it makes characters look like puppets, breaking immersion and reducing sympathy. It's a very common mistake made in visual novels.
Posture is even more important than graphics for a character to look alive, and also a massive part of sex-appeal.

fully agree'd. this "keeping up with the jones's" attitude to render quality is a crutch that has tripped up many devs. i wish they'd realize it was never about render quality, ppl will read a hand drawn comic-book style AVN if the story is good, which murmurs story is certainly good enough for.
there will always be a better render engine being released. the grass will always be greener, no matter how you try to keep up.
i wish devs would finish the game/story first, then go back and perfect it.

That's not what I was saying. And I don't think people have no standards for animation quality, quite the opposite.
In MurMur specifically, I remember a few early scenes that were really offputting due to poorly or not animated hands looking like a corpse claw. Redoing those early scenes is a very good idea.
My comment was about one specific pitfall that comes with switching between the same speaking/listening renders, which often looks unnatural. Render quality and count definitely matters.

and as i said precisely, true, ppl have overstated standards for animation. i mean seriously, if you want high quality visuals, cos watch a fucking porn video, this is a fucking illustrated novel.

there are zero off-putting scenes in murmur, if you dont have unrealistic expectations like a female.

thats the exact point, if devs keep doing "remakes" just because a render engine update is released, and never actually finish the story, which is the case in so many instances, then they never have really done anything before.
as i said, these are NOVELS, not 4K VR porn. might aswell play those 'uncover the girl' puzzle games, or belt off to fashion rags, if the story is never finished.
and "within expectations for a given genre" (ie: full-page comic book format) is not the same as "half baked". your fallacy of false equivalence makes your argument invalid.
If you don't want to wait for production, and don't need graphics, go read a novel. You know, a book. Do you see your fallacy?
This is NOT a novel. This is a VISUAL novel. VNs are a separate medium that has evolved far beyond mere novels with illustrations. The combination of quality animation and quality story is what makes the core appeal of a VN. Neglect either, and you end up with a plain old novel, or plain old porn.
