It's unlikely we'll ever support anonymous comments since it's the kinda thing that can be abused really easily. I think it's worth it to create an account for most people, since they can get notified of replies, follow your game, etc. It's also in your best interest to encourage people to have an account because it means you can have them see your updates if they do follow your game.

You could add in support for signing in via OAuth such as a Steam Account, Google Account, or social media stuff like Disqus/Twitter/Facebook.

Essentially a way to sign in via another service and then link the name/avatar and some other basic info to create a minimal user for the itchio service.  If they want to be a developer, sell stuff, or post on the forums then they'd need to 'link' to an actual itchio account after creating it.  Then they could choose to either login with their itchio credentials or login via the linked 3rd party credentials.

I understand security concerns, but many users enjoy logging in via Steam credentials precisely because Steam natively supports strong & unique 2FA authentication on Steam accounts.

Leafo: Fair enough. I wouldn't mind having to weed out troll comments and the like on my own project, but I suppose that could be bad for the site as a whole (enabling cyberattacks or just giving the site a bad reputation)?

Daedalus: Thanks for the info. That's another thing I'll consider.
