Description
Classique Electro Musique,

The music represents a researcher who ventures into a forest protected by Pùpa Pùpa, the great chief of the forest.

Music made with LogicPro and MuseScore.

Message from the artist:
My biggest thanks to the OST Composing Jam community. I hope you'll like these two pieces which I took a lot of fun to compose.

Theme:

Runaway
Picture theme

How does it fit the theme?
Runaway, especially represented in the theme Hostile Forest. The Picture was represented in all the songs with the exotic and woody sound.

Pretty unique piece with some non orthodox texture used. Lots of baroque trills has been used. The mix in itself is all right could be a bit wider more paning especially on the percussions to increase the dynamics could really help give a little punch. Good job !

Hostile forest: Love the foresty rhythms. very unusual feel. I like how it starts happy and then gets more menacing as the tempo picks up.

Pupa Pupa: Very quirky theme. Easy to imagine some tribal chief who is definitely not to be trusted!

Thanks for sharing!

Very creative, with unique rhythms! Really liked the unique melodies. I do feel like Pùpa Pùpa could have been just a bit shorter. The ethnic vibe was done really nicely.

Thanks a lot! Glad you like it despite the length of the piece

These are solid compositions! I really appreciate how you put the weight on the structure of the pieces, and also keeping the rhythmical identity which reminds me the more orthodox practices of concert music composition. I always thought using ethnic aspect in music can be quite risky, as it can easily fall into the trap of cheap exoticism, but you managed to bring the coherent legitimacy to it.  I guess you have a solid knowledge on it?

Well done!

Thank you very much! Indeed, I studied with an ethnomusicologist specialized in the music of the Middle East and Magreb. We played some traditional pieces like Samai Bayati or Lamma Bada (by the way, the Taksim of Pùpa Pùpa is very inspired by Lamma Bada). The difficulty in these pieces is the position of the beats and weak beats in the rhythm which can destabilize when one is used to the Occidental rhythm. But normally, I followed the traditional Samai rhythm as best I could.

The only element that I could not render correctly in the piece of Pùpa Pùpa is the maqâm. This is the "modality" used in these pieces and these oriental modes have quarter tones. Unfortunately, for lack of time, I did not succeed in finding the way to integrate the quarter tones in the piece...

But apart from that, the piece meets the criteria of the Samai as well as possible.

Nice and creative! At first, Hostile Forest did not really sound too well to me but when I saw the description, I get u were going for a rhythmic instability and making it sound like birds.

And in Pùpa Pùpa, I really liked how u did the soundtrack, by again reading the description, I got to know more on what u were making and even gotten more headknowledge!

Thanks a lot! It's indeed a risky bet to get out of the musical conventions regarding rhythm, but I'm glad you like it anyway!

I'm happy to have introduced you to the Samai!

Wow, I really liked how these tracks stood out in terms of their sound, particularly the swing of the start of the first track which evolved into a more jazzy sound later. Very unique and cleverly composed.

Thank you! Glad you liked it!

Hi ! Thank you for this submission, very intriguing!

I liked Hostile Forest and its time signature / rythms. I wouldn't call it hostile, I picture something unsetlling and strange rather than deadly! But that's a great track even though, particularly its structure and the way you wanted to imitate birds with trills!

Pùpa Pùpa was a great composition, in a very different way (and my favorite of the two)!! Your explanation of Samai structure was very interesting, thanks for this discovery and for submitting with this structure.

So... bien joué à toi ! (et c'est super d'avoir mis une traduction française :D)

Thank you! I took some risks with the rhythmic signature and the Samai structure, but I'm glad you like it!

Et heureux de retrouver des compatriots français !

I loved the sounds used in these tracks, the mix of percussion and electronic elements was a lot of fun to listen to.  It reminded me of very colourful PSX games.

I really enjoyed this one, it kept surprising me with new sounds!

Thank you! It makes me very happy!

it is good but pupa pupa gave me more like an Egyptian Music vibe

Thank you, indeed Pùpa Pùpa is inspired by Samai which is a music style of Turkish origin. I hope you liked it too!
