my biggest problem is that the window was too big, rendering the game unplayable on the laptop i'm using, luckily i had a second monitor connnected, idk much about game maker studio but when i'm making 2D games i always choose a resolution of 480x270 because it's easily scaled

Thank you for the advice! I was thinking I wouldn't have time to implement a settings screen, so I just went with a set resolution that I thought wasn't going to be too big, but I guess it can still be a problem on some screens.
