Request: Claimable Games for All

Downloading is all well and good but I'd like for the DEFAULT option for items to be 'claimable' to the itch.io account so that we can play (and replay) at our leisure (like how Steam and GoG work).  I'm aware of the itch.io application and that would be even more useful with a 'default on' claiming system.

Then if something isn't claimable it is because a developer explicitly disabled it (which is their option to do so).

Time is precious and sometimes people might just ignore a game instead of clicking 'download now' (for example if they're browsing the site on their lunch break at work).  Sometimes easier to just claim and have it there waiting for ya when a chance comes to find something new to play.  :)

I recommend using itch.io's collection system to keep track of games you'd like to play later. There are add to collection buttons on the top right of a project page. Since most games on itch.io are free, ownership works differently here. You only own paid content that you've purchased, or received a key for. You don't own free games. This is done like this because free games often change a lot, including how they are distributed, and we want to keep things flexible for creators to control how their project goes out.

Thanks

Collections is not worth the trouble.  If it can be removed randomly without notice by the dev, then it is pointless to bother with it.  Many games being given away for a limited time have a 'claim' button but the dev doing the giveaway has to enable that functionality on their end.  My suggestion was that the default be 'always claimable' so that devs don't need users poking them about it to enable a functionality they may not be aware was there at all.

Here is an example of a limited-time free giveaway with a claimable game:

For paid games that are free for a limited time, the default option is to have a claimable. So if someone turned it off they they probably did it intentionally for some reason.

Understood, thanks for the response!  I guess this 'request' can be closed as answered/solved.

Just a quick update on this.  Have had many indie devs not understand how claiming works.  There's also some confusing languages about 'not always being on sale' under the Creator 'Quality Guidelines'.

Would appreciate an official itch.io blog post and/or FAQ update that explains how claiming works and how to make a free/paid/sale game claimable on the developer side of things.

Thank you very much for your time and attention.
