This is what it looks like, and it only seems to happen either at the end of a combat sequence or when transitioning between locations (randomly, yet frequently). It's installed on an external hard drive in a read only folder. I play on a Windows PC. It looks like an older XP model installed with Windows 11. This is from when i started the game over from the beginning (right after the battle sequence with the slime girl of the training mission). I've had a few other games using rpgmaker and got this error screen, but nowhere near as frequently.

Usually when the game is on an external source, or a read only folder, the game gets errors because it can't create save or config files. That could be solved by moving the entire game folder to a different location. However, the error message you get is different, so while this might help, it's probably not going to solve the issue.

Since the error appears randomly and not on specific triggers, and the same error happened for you in other RPG Maker games, it's fair to assume that your system doesn't like such games for some reason. I did google the error message and tried to find a solution, but sadly I saw nothing that applies to your case.

Apart from changing the folder location of the game, what you could also try is to run the game as admin, or run the game on a different device, if you have one. (The save folder on android is hidden however, so transfering the save to or from an android phone doesn't work)
If you play the game on full screen mode, you could try to play it in the normal window resolution to see if that changes something.

I did try playing it on phone once, but couldn't figure out how to open the menu.

You need to press the screen with two fingers at once to open the menu on android.
I added a message at the start of the game for the android version to explain that, since a lot of people had troubles figuring that out.

Thanks! Regarding the pc version, I tried moving it from the external drive to the actual computer in a non-read-only folder, and still got the error screen not long after starting over. (I play all these games in a normal window.) So I'll move on and play it on phone now.
