Hi everyone!  Aven Colony is now live on itch.io.

While we do recommend claiming your Steam key and playing on Steam, we've uploaded it to itch.io now as well, as promised.

  • Aven Colony supports Steam cloud saves.  We recommend not attempting to use this option if you do not have Steam installed.
  • We've decided to make keys for the Cerulean Vale sandbox map available to all those who helped get Aven Colony off the ground by participating on the itch.io beta.  If you are such a participant, send an e-mail to info@mothership-entertainment.com with the e-mail address you used to purchase beta access on itch.io.  We will not be able to issue a Cerulean Vale DLC key without this e-mail address and will verify it against our list of beta participants.

Phew, I was worried it was going to be Steam-only for a while there. Have been waiting six months for this title.

However the game still doesn't show up when you search for it: https://itch.io/search?q=Aven+Colony

It also still says "This game is currently unavailable" on: https://mothership.itch.io/aven-colony

Btw this release is stand-alone, right? You don't need to have Steam installed or connect to any of Valve's servers?

Yes, the game is still only *purchaseable* via Steam, not itch.  But we're making sure those who bought it on itch during the beta can still play it on itch. if they choose to do so.

Correct.  We tested it on a Steam-free PC.  Let us know if you have any issues, though.

Hi MothershipTest

I tested the game with a non legal beta copy and a pre alpha copy just to see what it was like because of how much hype this game was getting now I've gotten a beta copy as well the same way now I tested them both and its seems that the main problem for your beta, on my side is the start up sequence as well when I double click the icon It just doesn't launch so any ideas ( by the way I will be buying the game beta and full release and I will try to do a lets play as I will be doing a review of the game and what could be said to improve the game in other ways )

p.s. I will be deleting these copies that are illegal

That's too bad, I really wanted to support this title. Thanks for the answer.

The latest itch.io version does play without having a Steam account. However it hasn't got  the Cerulean Vale map (yet). As a beta-tester however, I have the distinct feeling that some (small) beta bugs - some of those I even signalled - are back in the game, I fear that Mothership used one of the older beta versions to compile the itch.io version.

Nope, the itch.io version is from the very latest version of the game.

The Cerulean Vale map is Steam-only at this point.  We'd like to add it to itch.io as well when we're able to do so, but currently, since 99.9% of our customers are playing it on Steam, we can't justify it.

Sorry to hear this is still requiring Steam for you.  I'll have our engineering team take a look.

IMHO Steam is still a DRM platform. I oppose any such DRM as I think that Im renting my games when I paid them in full, which is unfair to alot of customers. If you look at the EULA for Steam, they reserve the right to terminate your account at any time without warning, even if you didnt break any part of the policy, which is a double standard punch in the face. I suggest bring back the game to itch.io or better yet, release it at GOG.

Hi, how do i go about claiming my steam key?

I have played this game since the beginning beta launch.  Now I can't play it on itch io.  It just loads unreal4 closes and no game.  I'm wondering why?
